Why the Cayenne and now the Panamera? Because Porsche is a smart company that capitalizes on demand in the market...and they've been doing it for a long time. And, yes, the 911 is a luxury car. A very fast, beautifully handling, ultra-responsive luxury car. Every time I sit behind the wheel of my Carrera S I get chills thinking of the history behind the greatest sports auto on the road...the 911.

I can not get enough of this video. GT-R fans, you should watch this. One car does not make a legacy. I admire Nissan, always have. But Porsche, like Ferrari and Corvette, has a decades long history of racing victories to back up the reputation.

It dominated Japanese and Australian racing leagues to the point of being banned for ruining the competitive nature of the sport. The R32 Skyline GTR was an immensly successful race car. I'm no Nissan fanboy, but there's more than just Nascar, F1 and Lemans out there.

I know this was meant as a slap to MINI. But, doesn't anyone else see something a little deeper? MINI had nothing to lose. They would win by just being somewhere close in the end. Porsche simply could not come out of this smelling like roses (or corinthian leather) without blowing MINI off the track. I LOVE PORSCHE! But, I have limited funds. So I bought a MINI Cooper S and am having a blast. It is a ton of fun. Don't get down MINI. You can still feel like you gave it a solid shot...

The problem is that performance is getting cheaper. Just like the computing world, things become easier to produce better and of higher quality, continuously. Look at BMW's new M3. It's nipping at the heels of the GT3, and it's less than half the price, and more practical. It's just the way the world works.

@chbrules Performance is cheaper (you also mean tech, safety, cleverness..), but usually ppl think of speed when talking of performance. I actually think older cars (XJ220, F40...) were faster w/o all the safty and eco regulations.

and where did you get that the m3 is close to the gt3? you aren't just considering at 0-60 times i hope (cause then my 92 yamaha fzr600 is nearly as fast as the gt3..for... 1/20 of the price). the gt3 is a full 27 secs faster than the m3 around the Nurburging...

I love it.... but kinda sad, that nearly the whole video only shows cars from the past. And thats the real sad part... it's long long ago since porsche build real race cars. Yes I know, there is the LMP2 and the GT3 RSR ... but take a look in the past... there was much more "racing" in the porsche production line up than today. The current 911 is such a luxury car .... with only a glimpse of sport

The roots may be in racing. But the buyer M.O. is still in posing. The cars are wonderful but they've got a terrible buyer image.
