after another look i noticed Michell had her mike farther away from her mouth than Cass...they still sounded great but that tight, four part vocal was not quite as crisp...they were terrific...thanks for sharing with us.
People talk about Denny and Cass as being the lead singers...and rightly so... but this clip shows how valuable Michell and John's harmony's were...by their absence...for a 'Big' show the sound people really let them down...i think some of their pitch problems were due to that...sound techs who know how to work the mix are the unsung hero's of the music business...this clip is an excellent example of that.
@lightfoot828 the sound guys were probably so high on something back then that they didn't even notice. it's a shame to, cuz they all sounded so awesome togather!!!
@LuiEVero There were definite mic problems during this show. 'California Dreaming' from Monterey is posted on my other channel and it's quite obvious there, too :)
@LuiEVero Michelle's mic was not turned on and she knew it. She was not a good vocalist at the time and was there for eye-candy. She didn't learn to sing for some years after this and then it was pretty weak. Everyone in the band was a competent musician but for her. She is playing a tambourine in FRONT of the mic most of the time and has the mic a foot away all the time... and they all knew it. They ran the fest, they did sound checks... everyone else was fine. It was planned.
@manuelcristopher Michelle, John and Denny have all taken LSD for a first time. A few hours later a bell rang. Stoked Michelle went and open the door and Cass was standing there looking at Michelle with big beutiful eyes surrounded with lashes in a flip, wearing pink angora sweater, white mini skirt, go go boots and holding a bag of cubes in her hand. They all said that Cass was looking like a giant psychedelic mushroom. :D that was her nickname and she didn't mind :))
This is such an awesome song. I remember being about 4 or 5 years old, and my mom playing the Mamas & Papas album that had this song, "Monday, Monday". I think the album was called, "If you can believe your eyes and ears", if I remember correctly. This song sounds really great live!
