To my knowledge, this hasn't been released on an album of his. I do not own any of his albums, but according to the list provided on Allmusic.com, this chestnut doesn't grace any of his cds. Am I wrong? Does anyone know of such an album? I do own the dvd from which this derives and love it. I really like the voicings he's using: those major 7 sharp 11 chords! In every sense of the description, this is a contemporary folk tune.
@Beck19781 This tune is on his album, "Stories." I'm almost certain that it's there under a different title: "Slow Motion." So, presumably it's available.
Great playing - of course - sadly can't get the dvd inUK, but does anybody know what tuning Woody is playing? Be most chuff to know as I'd loved to attempt this.
Having had the opportunity to sit down with Woody on several occasions and play (translation: be amazed and try not to drool or make any big mistakes) I can tell you he's as down to earth as he is crazy good. Always there to teach and be supportive.
Woody Mann is all class - I accidentally went to one of his concerts last year, his music was a great discovery to me.
Isn't the number of uniquely gifted guitarists who started out as students of Reverend Gary Davis amazing? Juat look at these three: Stefan Grossman, Ernie Hawkins and Woody Mann. Maybe we should borrow Dostoyevsky's saying about his predecessor Gogol and apply it to the 'the Reverend' and fingerstyle guitarists....."they all come out of Gary Davis pocket"!
I'm going to try a set of nickle strings on my Taylor on the offhand chance that I'll sound even remotely like that. Wonderful playing.
