To Operator35. Thank goodnees you loaded this up on YouTube. It's a shame Varese Sarabande Records and GSN didn't think of coming up with third volume CD of game show themes. This would have been a perfect choice for such a collection.
Damn, I always like this funky theme song. I started watching "Password Plus" in 2001, I'm 21 now, and one of the things that I really liked about this show was the theme song. Score Productions RULE!!!!!
@fbakerwitz I agree with you 100%. Even game shows that have been around for years with different host SUCK! I can't even watch "The Price Is Right" anymore, and I barely watch "Family Feud".
@fbakerwitz Once a production company realizes that Million Dollar Money Drop did everything wrong (strung out game, obnoxious players), we might be headed in the right direction. NBC's got a new show coming out that's not going to do much better, I predict.
CBS turned their back on The Cube, which is along the lines of primetime, but far awesomer than they realized. Not every primetime show is rubbish.
I'm working on a game show idea whose working slogan is "Refreshingly Intelligent".
@abqwriter They're cutting the soaps out... only to replace them with "talk" shows!
Hey, networks! How about some GAME shows like in the days of old?
PASSWORD. PRESS YOUR LUCK. CHILD'S PLAY. MATCH GAME. HOLLYWOOD SQUARES. PYRAMID. CARD SHARKS. SPLIT SECOND. THE BIG SHOWDOWN. HIGH ROLLERS. TIC TAC DOUGH. THE JOKER'S WILD. CONCENTRATION. SALE OF THE CENTURY. SCRABBLE. BREAK THE BANK. CROSS-WITS. NAME THAT TUNE.
@StukInBuf I'd prefer the networks bring back long-running classics. So while you have a lot of shows I like as well, I think it would only make sense to bring back shows like Password, Match Game, H2, Pyramid, and Card Sharks.
@AaronBruceLadner Of course I don't think any other "Password" host could best Allen Ludden, but I'll say Tom Kennedy wasn't terrible. Just imagine what it would have been like if someone like Drew Carey took over :)
I'd say that out of all the PW hosts, Tom Kennedy was the only one who gotten the chance to interact w/ all the PW hosts. He was a celeb player w/ Allen Ludden on P+ and even Bert Convy on SP. He hosted Bert Convy, Bill Cullen and even future WWTBaM and Million Dollar Password host Regis Philbin when they were celeb players during his time as host of P+.
I know GSN isn't what it used to be when you were little but still, isn't it great to watch the classics we grew up with? I was two when this show premiered.
@MH4MEDLEN I'm with u on that one....i love them myself....and Password Plus is one of my favorites....i wish GSN would put it back on their daytime schedule
Password Plus Monday Through Friday Hosted By Allen Ludden At 2:00PM/1:00 Central Starring July 6, 2009 And Hosted By Tom Kennedy Saturday And Sunday 12:30PM/11:30 Central Starring July 11, 2009 Only On GSN.
The funny thing is I never got to hear just how rich this theme was until I first heard it on the Web in 1998. The tambourine and synths really drive the vamp portion of the song. You never really got to hear them much during the closing credits because NBC's "Mackenzie" (the canned applause that augmented the actual studio audience) smothered the softer parts of the song.
At 0:45, you see the Queen of Password (and all game shows in my opinion) with the current host of Million Dollar Password. This was my favorite theme of all the Password game shows...great post!
The coolest thing about this theme is that the opening notes actually were coordinated to 'match up' with the lighting of the giant "Password Plus" plinth -- letter by letter as it spelled out P-a-s-s-w-o-r-d. Or at least it always seemed that way to me. (Super Password did much the same thing, but since that open was animated, it didn't have quite the same effect.)
I agree - that made Password Plus so much more eye-catching and thus memorable. I would rewind it several times just to catch the intro with the synchronated lighting of the word password with the music.
It was sad to see him fall ill and die during the show's run.I remember him missing some shows and him coming back and telling everyone about tests being done on him Alan Ludden really was Mr Password

Now why can't they bring Password back like this? It'd be fun to see what today's American can (or can't!) do to convey words like this.

Trivia: Allen Ludden hosted the original incarnation of the show called 'Password' and he hosted the more popular version *IMHO* Password Plus.
RIP Mr.Ludden you're truly missed, the gameshows of today couldn't even compare to you're glasses, thats how good of a host you were.

I believe that next to Allen Ludden, he was the next best host of that show. Bill Cullen seemed a little out of element.

I agree, but he kept giving away the puzzles. Those moments cracked me up though.
