saw then live in Seattle way back best concert ever those guys could fucking rock it......though they've had their differences Astbury and Duffy are the best combination ever........on the rare compilation the intro to electric ocean by Duffy is imo by far the best intro ever.....
I was there at this gig. we were just in front of duffy, but got split up from my mates as you can imagine from the vid! I was 19 and it was my second time That i had seen the Cult, the first time was at NEC supporting Big Country in 1984. This vid brought the whole day flooding back. priceless, Thanx.
@mantarayification the Cult, innovators? well i guess if you consider regurgitating every tired old rock cliche to be innovation...Pixies on the other hand dont deserve to me mentioned on the same planet as these guys, they were truly original and had a huge and lasting impact...sort it out mate
Duffy and his Gretsch... like Thor and his hammer. Unbeatable. I love Ian's kicking while he sings on stage, great moves. 'Love' album arguably among the top 10 hard rock of all time.
Hey! I've been listening to The Cult for the last 13 years (and now I'm almost 25) :) I really love this live performance of them, but can anybody tell me how that hat is called? I mean, I would like to know it because I find it so cool XD I can't see any hat like that around here for I'm not a native american guy (I'm from Peru). If someone told me the name of that hat, it would be so nice :) See you and LONG LIVE THE CULT! :D
@AphrodisiacJacket I think the hat is a germann ss-hat, worn by troops in russia. I love the cult, but i'm afraid you have to check ww2 memorabilia...try to avoid a nazi image...
@cookamidgera Think-think-think: Can't help the hat looks like that! But I don't mind, still love the Cult! All great artists now and then wear stuff on the egde of good taste..
Saw them on the same tour a couple of weeks earlier in march "87 at the dome in Brighton. I remember being blown away and feeling high for weeks after. They are still the best rock band and I'm still in awe. Long live The Cult.
Jamie Stewart played rhythm guitar on the electric tour. They brought on someone else to play bass. I think his name was kid kaos or something like that.
Brilliant band with a great sound, this vid just makes me laugh in a Spinal Tap kind of way, or thinking of Reeves and Mortimer's "Wensleydale Cheese", band.
I highly recommend the re-master box set of Love, it's fantastic.
Comes with the a repro gatefold sleeve as well as a disc of singles, all b sides etc, a 3rd disc of unissued Demo's, and then the BBC Live in concert Disc from 1985.
@hatethatsmirk making a comparison between the two albums,,didnt like the transition from love to the new metal usa style rock,,never played electric,,so i put it in a skip last year,
@fabios66 I don't think it was a U.S.A. style. It sounded more like AC/DC. Love is still my favorite album. Bought it brand new on cassette when it first came out. Saw them in concert when they came out with Fire woman in 89 or 90 can't remember exact year. They still played Love songs.
This is a real male...Ho! my God thank you for this creation...Nobody can be like him...He is so cute with his hat...Besides I'm sure he didn't know that he was so beautiful...and it's the raison why he is so good!!! He didn't know he was so exiting...
yeah, and have you heard of Plant and Page? seems as though things changed a few times since then, VH was pretty cool though, and commercially bigger, but arguably not as important as the Cult
as per sakeys comment...The Cult have always been ahead of the curve, the grew their hair out in late 85/86, before the Hair bands got started, they never conformed to anything, they had a big influence on the look of alot of those bands, although the subsequent bands were much cheesier, with maybe the exception of AXL.where do you think he got the BANDANA from?? IAN..and where do you think all the Seattle bands got their inspiration...Look no further!!
@thepackage11 Agree with everything except the bandana issue.I put it to you that axl and ian got the idea, from steven tyler of aerosmith. Sorry for nit picking but couldn't help myself.
@thepackage11 Not trying to bash them -- but don't you think by Electris and Sonic Temple, they started sounding more like other hard rock/metal bands out there?
I've heard some people blame Rick Rubin for ruining them. I wouldn't got that far ...but I still say Love sounds totally unique -- unlike anything they, or pretty much anyone else, did.
@thepackage11 Dude your a total Jackass know it all. And really you dont know SH!T !! You need to research your music history . You have alot to learn. Long Live Rock and Roll.................
I know you'll have a 'pop' at me (south east London slang, sorry) but you rally need to be aware that what you are writing needs to be interperated by others & not just your brain. Still I audgest a course at the school of LUX INTERIOR.
this song rocks.. but i can't watch this - i can't get past Billy's hair. So ghey ahahahaha... they eff'ed up when they 'conformed' to what everyone else was doing and got off track from what they we're all about.
A lot of bands start playing agressively and go soft (hi Axl). This is the only band I can think of that started more melodic and went hard aggressive and pulled it off. True kings
im 24 and i really like the sound of these guys, only listened to them because of my dad always said there gigs were always rockin, guys got a cool voice, catchy riffs, would not look out of place in todays rock charts, top tune!
firstly i loved the cult and saw them many times.was at the sighing of the the electric album, which was being played at the time, and remember thinking ( i hope this is not the new album) i didnt like the change to rock and instantly new i'd go off them, i got the album and played it to my horror,
