He's a great bassist, and Metallica did underuse him. and the bass solo in this song is awesome. But is the work of Carlson, Gilbert, Smith and Knutson (A.K.). And through most of the band's run the other 4 have contributed to a lot more awesome music in this band.
I was devastated when Newsted left F+J, but They kept going. End of story.

Great song and great band... depressing that they never made it big and that there legacy will be Jason Newsted leaving F&J to join Metallica. There were some great songs written by these guys, if more people would actually take the time to listen to these guys (especially Doomsday For The Deciever the album that featured Jason) people might respect these guys more and be pleasently suprised at what they hear. @4stringFanatico better how? trujillo has done nothing that newsted cant do.newsted not only has good picking,but has also at times used fingers n even slap bass.plus hes no stranger to wah n effects,which make his playing sound all the more unique.nothing against rob,but i'd pick jason over rob any day.

But trujilo does it better, believe me just because you can do sumthn doesnt mean ur the best at it, with years of playing pick stye ur hand gets accustomed to it and can only go so fast finger stlye. jason cant play battery finger stlye. and jason cant slap better than trujiloo NO WAY! listen to his older stuff, imo he rivals flea with his skill hes that good! and have u seen Robs pedal board! i love both man, theyr both amazing

@4stringFanatico there is no better,there is different.just cuz u like the way trujillo plays dont make him no better than newsted,it just means u prefer trujillo's style.jason is a very versitile bassist good at pick playing,finger,n slap.though he prefers to mainly play pick,hes not limited to just that style.plus,rob's stage presence is pretty dull compared to jason's,to me his solos are more exciting to watch.i like both too,but i'll pick jason over trujillo wit metallica any day

@SwedishHeadbanger idgaf. id much rather play realy well, than LOOK like im playin realy well. stage presence is sumthn that can change without much effort. ive played shows where IM the frontman, and ive played shows where im just standing next the the drum kit. skill takes years to change. regardless of how my presence is live, my playing is allways in tip top shape. there isnt a magic pill that will make u play better, yet there is a pill to make u act like a monster on stage. think about it

Great song and great band... depressing that they never made it big and that there legacy will be Jason Newsted leaving F&J to join Metallica. There were some great songs written by these guys, if more people would actually take the time to listen to these guys (especially Doomsday For The Deciever the album that featured Jason) people might respect these guys more and be pleasently suprised at what they hear. I know I was!

And guitars used picks. they needed to create a deeper tone! Bass came along! Same principles towards bass. so then picks have been in use for a long time.

they would if they tried. most bassists today just automatically pick up a pick and don't even try to use their fingers. All of the best bassists in the world: Jaco Pastorius, Les Claypool, Flea, Geddy Lee, Victor Wooten, Cliff Burton, Geezer Butler, Steve Harris, etc. all used their fingers.
