  • hey i cant punt the ball it does not elevate please help please

  • Didn't even know i was doing something right, because im left footed and right handed i natrually did the correct dropping. Good stuff :)

  • How do you prevent the ball from coming off your foot at an angle-going out of bounds?

  • felicidades muy bien

  • Question: what if you can't palm the ball like you can? I always use my right hand (im right footed) to kick the ball because I'm always afraid I'm going to drop it with my left hand.

  • @maddog0011001 you don't have to palm the ball. I don't palm the ball either. it just sits in the palm of my hand, but I'm not griping it. You just have to learn how to balance the ball in your left hand. If you hit a drop-kick, then it is okay to drop out of your right hand it you're right-footed.

  • A'ight? :P

    Seriously though, good advice :).

  • Will you be making any videos on how to properly goal kick? I right now can goal kick from the box to mid-field, but it doesn't have much loft on it. Any suggestions on how I can get more lift in my kick, as well as more distance?

  • @canebay85

thank you for your question. We already have a goalkick video on Youtube. If you go to our channel page and scroll down towards the bottom of all of our videos, you should find it.

    All the best.

  • @stlouisgoalkeeping Thanks alot. I'll be watching that video alot; trying to study it the best way I can. I'll message you back if anything is unclear to me.

  • is it the opposite for lefties? Lefties go to 10-11 on the clock?

  • @PunkBoiiJovan

    yes, that is correct.

  • i always drop with my right hand and im right footed. Is this a problem?

  • @Alex4o991

I did the same all through my playing career, even though coaches kept telling me to drop out of my left hand. I didn't start dropping out of my left until I had retired and I found it to be much more natural and the margin for error is better than when I drop out of your right. I wished I would have listened to them back when I was playing. I learned how to kick a ball 65-70 yards, but it took me much longer than it should have and I would have been more consistant.

  • what goes further punts or dorpkicks?

  • @andrewsomerville298

depends on a couple of things: 1) body type (length of legs, arms and overall leg strength)

    2) athleticism (how good is the goalkeepers sense of balance and timing)

    3) technical prowess

In order to know which one you should use, you will have to probably work with both techniques for a while to see which one seems to work better for you, I would work with both for 6-8 months on a consistant basis and then make a decision.

  • sir i m frm india i wanna be a goalkeeper i m 17 yrs old my problem is fitness can u suggest me som efitness regimes

  • @Stlouisgoalkeeping That helped very much cause I'm tall and my arms and my legs are tall too that made me a little problems and I saw where the problem was too cause I kicked it straight to the ball with the body straight to the ball so in the 12 oclock postion and I have every time drop the ball with the right arm and I didn't eventually drop it I just pushed in the air I knew that was a totally fail... THANK U! that helped much.. but why you kicked usa why not iraq or afghanistan :P ? lol

  • Is it good to have a lace cover? Like the Nike Vapors?

  • What gloves do you use?

They kind of look like Sells to me but im not sure

  • Very nice video! Can you please check out my video and possibly put a comment on it? In my video I score a goal from my goal off of a punt/dropkick....When I was only 10 on a 6V6 feild.Thank you very much for all the help!

  • erm iom a goal keeper and when i finish scholl i wouldnt mind cumming to this place so my question is, is this place in england or america and do you need some sort of special skills to get in ?

  • we are in the United States and you don't need to be playing at any certain level. We have goalkeepers of all abilities from professionals to Olympic and National Team goalkeepers all the way down to recreational level goalkeepers who just play on Saturday or Sunday for fun.

  • i know this is an amateur question but when should i use drop kicks?

  • not at all. I think it is a very good question..I would consider using a drop kick under a couple of circumstances.. 1) when the quality of the playing field is fairly good. this way you can feel pretty confident that the ball will bounce correctly once it hits the ground. 2) when there is a strong wind coming into you during a game. The drop kick tends not to rise as much, therefore, it doesn't get caught in the wind as much. 3) when trying to get the ball downfield as quickly as possible.

  • @stlouisgoalkeeping Can you give me the place in USA where is this academy located I'm a european goal keeper I'm 6.2 feet I'm a professional keeper and now I'm training with the ages 16... so I probably after clearing this year I will see to come in a much more professional academy so wheres the location of the academy ?

  • just like me i play only weekends for an amateur team, this summer i`m going back to the us,but i`m student so my visa is for 4 mounts, during this time i`m gonna work and i won`t have time for football(soccer),is there any solution to get in ?

  • it's very tough to get in during the summer months only because the demand is so high and we can only handle so many players at one time. It's much easier to schedule starting in December to March.

  • question i see some goalkeepers like petr cech for example he punts on the side like a side volley punt and it seems to go further how do u do that?

  • this technique that you speak of is a "side volley" technique which is a great technique to use, but is difficult to find the timing balance for.....well worth working on the technique, though. highly effective.

  • could you show us videos on how to

  • it's pretty much what you see in the video here, but just a little more from the side, but not by much. It's the same principles discussed in the video.

  • I just want to thank the St. Louis Academy and its staff for uploading these very useful videos. I am 18 years of age and just been promoted into the senior mens team of my club. I feel very nervous however with all due respect these videos are calming my nerves.

  • all the best to you.

  • This was great help! xD Do you love AC Milan though? xD

  • When would you suggest to start correcting the technique on very young players. There are some 6, 7, and 8 year old GKs in my club that are very productive on their kicks but technique isn't that good. At the moment I don't want to correct them since I'm afraid I'll confuse them. Thank you for the tips.

  • great question...I completely understand what you are dealing with. In my opinion, it's better to correct them as early as possible so the proper technique becomes engrained in them as early as possible. The longer they continue the bad habits, the tougher it is going to be for them, 5,6,7 years from now to correct. The great thing about kids at that age is that the brain maps the new motion very quickly and they pick up the new technique much quicker than kids in their teens.

  • Thanks for the tips. Your videos are very appreciated.

  • really helpful vid, liked the clock idea will be using it next practise.

  • Can you recommend the best way to loose bodyfat as a keeper? been out injured for a couple of months... and also the best drill for improving your spring?

  • Personally, I think the best way to lose body fat is through intense sprint work combined with light weight work. As for improving your spring, please see all of the plyometric excercises in our "Individual Training" episodes 1 and 2.

  • finishing one on crossing this week. Hope to have it uploaded by the end of next week.

  • in what situation would you recommend a drop kick and same thing for a punt?

  • I think surface of the field, wind direction and wind speed as well as how quickly you need to get the ball downfield, will determine drop kick vs. punt. Bad playing surface = punt. strong wind in your face = drop kick. Need to get the ball down field quickly = drop kick.

  • i dont understand why people are trash talking the vids. Why are you even looking at these videos if youre not trying to get better? just put your ego's aside and watch the video

  • played for 2 years at sporting lisbon smart guy...with carlos queiroz as head coach...here's a name maybe you've heard of..Luis Figo...he was 21 and on the team as well....you're an idiot who's mouth is writing checks your ass can't cash... as for whether you like me or not...the world doesn't care...because you're a "clown". If you were a professional player at any point in your sad life, you would have a much different approach to the way you communincate about goalkeeping.

  • as for "major league" you live in australia...where's your "major league"? the A-league? please.....no better than MLS. If it was, all of Australia's best players would stay home and play....funny how they all go to Europe.. maybe it's because the A-League is too good for them and they can't compete.....

maybe you should just sit back, fill your fat fucking stomach with more fish and chips and keep jerking off to Kylie Minogue...

  • man, take it easy ... 1 shitty comment from maybe 10 yrs old boy (or girl ,whatever) and 99 good responses from goalkeepers all around the world is not so bad result ;) , btw today we won

a difficult match match and its also thx to you ...

  • lol m8 first time i seen you "blow up" at someone :P. Hehe my veiw of you went from professional to casual lol.

Meant that in a nice way :). And again, your tips and training vids are always great. They have been helping me lots. Just the goal kicks that are disastrous for me :(

  • Its not a crap video .

Just watch out my friend :)

nation socialist movement have ties where you live

    haha good luck

    SEIG hEIL

  • This is pathetic , fucking kick the ball you twat .

you talk to much . majority of people learn through site .

  • the word is spelled sight, not "site"...and if you could learn everything through "sight" then you would be able to hit a golf ball like Tiger Woods, which you can't, and when you weren't doing that, you would be playing like Messi or Ronaldo, which you can't. So keep your mouth shut and work on trying to hit a ball better than you already do, clown.

  • owned!

    nice vids btw

  • ive got like 5 pairs of gloves 3 without spines and 2 with spines. what should i use?cause spines help stop injuries but also shorten my throws.

  • i personally don't like spines, but that's probably just because I didn't grow up with them. I think by the time you're in your mid-teens, your catching technique should be perfected to the point that you don't need spines.

  • thanks man

  • urm excuse me,but do you know how to clean gloves? i know tht it is astupid quesiton, but plz help me

  • not really, i've been told so many different ways to clean gloves. Some tell me i have to use some special chemical and never expose the gloves to artifical light. Some say just use in cold water and dry in the sun. Its confusing i know

  • I know this is going to sound crazy, but I actually wash my gloves once a week in the washing machine. I use only cold water, I only wash the gloves by themselves and NEVER use soap or any kind of detergent. Wash them in a gentle cycle for 10-12 minutes and let the machine spin dry them. Take them out and hang them up in a place where they are not exposed to direct sunlight. If you wash them once a week, you'll be shocked at how good the grip maintains.

  • wow really? Have you done that with all your gloves or is it only a specific brand or type of gloves you have been doing that with.

  • no, i've done this with all of my gloves for the last 20 years or so....the grip actually gets better each week...as long as the foam isn't tearing away from my hand scraping across the ground.

  • I have adidas fingersaves, they have the zipper and the plastic in them. should I still wash just like you say?

  • i have reusch raptor pro g1 ortho tec. if i were to use that method to wash my gloves would it result in any sort of tears on the palm? my gloves are rather new (ive only used them in 4 or 5 games) and they only have a few slight tears. would washing them in the machine increase these tears?

  • can you remove the spines in those gloves? as for the tears in the palms, if the tears are small and very minimal, it shouldn't pose a problem in terms of increasing the size of the tears. If the tears are larger, than I probably wouldn't recommend using the machine and would suggest you do it by hand.

  • I have the same habit like you had, i use the same hand of the foot right and hand.

  • try the other way, and work with it for a month or so and see if it's easier and more consistant....it was for me.

  • first what is a good distance for a punt, and I usually kick the ball at the 18. is that good?

  • yes, that is very good.

  • mate, you'rre a phenominal teacher, keep it up you've helped me loads!

(btw you have the biggest hands in the world)

  • thank you. all the best to you and I think my hands look larger due to the camera. I wear a size 10 so that's about average.

  • I've been waiting ages for these series to come. THANK YOU! :)

Distribution in general is my weakest side as a goalkeeper..

  • Great tips, this is somthing i am really good at :D i can get the longest kicks in my team and also the most acurate :D.... Great Vid though, just nee dot practice floor kicks lol

  • aa and i forget say you that iam 15 years old

  • Man you never cease to impress your viewers with high quality tips.

  • thank you, sir. ...all the best to you.

  • hi there i was wonderin if u could score from a dropkick at the age 14 i have a gd kick but i wont it to go farer

  • yes, you can score from a dropkick if you can hit it far enough.

  • when i dive down to stop a ball, when i land, i get an impact so i cant concentrate on catching the ball. How can i do dat?

  • use the ball the break the impact....meaning make sure the ball gets to the ground before your body does. If you get the ball down to the ground first, and are holding it down on the ground with your top hand, and the low hand is holding the ball behind the ball, you should feel very little impact on your shoulders and hips.

use the ball to break your fall.

  • Thank you so much, i was thinking of using the ball as a break fall but i wasnt sure until i hear it from an expert. thnx again!
