When I look at the prophet of islam, I see a person who lied, waged wars to get rich, committed barbaric acts of torture, beheading entire villages of jews for their money, and a man who - at 50 - "married" a 6 year old girl.
When I read the book he wrote - the quran - I see a book that fosters hate, intolerance, and deceit, contains calls to spread islam by any means, including lying and warfare.
The only redeeming quality of islam is that not all muslims buy into this ideology completely.

My view is that all people are born without religion, and its instilled in them through years of indoctrination by parents, religious institutions, and religious societies.

@arianaa86 The Qu'ran does condemn apostasy but the earthly punishment is often vague. For instance in regard to apostates Sura 3:91 says "... For those there will be a painful punishment..." But it is unclear if this punishment will be in life or after death. Sura 5:33 demands death and mutilation for those "...who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption..." A religion is only as good as those that follow it.

The epicenter of the Islamic world, the theocracy formed around Islam, finds enough evidence within the Qu'ran and the Hadith to justify it's policy of death for apostasy. Yeshua himself, as you noted, said "Do not resist an evil person"(Matt 5:39) yet disobeyed his own words when driving away money changers and merchants in John 2:15. Yeshua also said "I came not to send peace, but a sword."(Matt10:34) and in turn said "all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."(Matt26:52), an admonition commanding his disciples to inaction.

When I look at the prophet of islam, I see a person who lied, waged wars to get rich, committed barbaric acts of torture, beheading entire villages of jews for their money, and a man who - at 50 - "married" a 6 year old girl.
When I read the book he wrote - the quran - I see a book that fosters hate, intolerance, and deceit, contains calls to spread islam by any means, including lying and warfare.
The only redeeming quality of islam is that not all muslims buy into this ideology completely.

The verse you quote has been abrogated (2.106) by later verses. (especially 9:5).

My view is that all people are born without religion, and its instilled in them through years of indoctrination by parents, religious institutions, and religious societies.

I find it sad that its the year 2010 and we are still obsessed with mythology.
God the all powrfull, builder of everything, has the power to create books from nothing, appear at will and yet he does neither.
Look in the mirror, ask yourself why does god never show him self?, instead leaves people to argue over books made by man and their interpretation.

Speaking from experience, I prefer the Quran for a number of reasons. Its got thicker paper than the Christian Bible, and is as such much more effective for wiping my ass with. Now come out with a 2-ply Quran and I'll really be sold!
Until then, I'll stick to wiping my ass with Christian bibles, doubling up on pages, of course, but mostly because you can buy Bibles at Sam's Club. Can't get Qurans in bulk!

So depending on the nomenclature of your cultural indoctrination, really depends on your definition of what is a person.
I was bought up not only to consider people of different races or gender as people, but also people who happen to be born in a different body to mine they also are people.
I think you would need to qualify what the Prophet said, as meaning 'only people of a human physiology', unless of course the Prophet implied a larger more inclusive umbrella of compassion. Hmm Perhaps??

For instance in the Hadith, Bukari gives three reasons for shedding a Muslim’s blood, the final reason is as follows: "...the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims." The Hadith also describes Ali, Mohammad's cousin, burning atheists alive.

@arianaa86 There are several accounts of Ali's encounter with those people. Bukari says that they were atheists while later interpretations change this to be apostates or idolaters. Subsequent reinterpretations have changed this story so that it may be about the burning of a house in which an idol was found, or the murder of the men and then their corpses were burned. It is not the method of the killing which concerns me, but the killing itself. Sura 46:9 "God is the ONLY one who can judge..."

@arianaa86 The Qu'ran does condemn apostasy but the earthly punishment is often vague. For instance in regard to apostates Sura 3:91 says "... For those there will be a painful punishment..." But it is unclear if this punishment will be in life or after death. Sura 5:33 demands death and mutilation for those "...who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption..." A religion is only as good as those that follow it.

@arianaa86 Alas the Hadith is an important doctrine to many Muslims. As I said before any religion is only as good as it's believers. The epicenter of the Islamic world, the theocracy formed around Islam, finds enough evidence within the Qu'ran and the Hadith to justify it's policy of death for apostasy. I'm not talking about a fringe group, but millions of people that support this idea, if only through nonresistance. I cannot support ANY god that would command killing when that act is a sin.

Even Yeshua supported slavery in so much as he did not stand against it. Regardless of the period slavery, the ownership of another human being, is wrong and immoral. Yeshua said he had not come to change the laws or the prophets(in reference to the old testament) and he who disobeys the least of them is the least in his father's eyes.

But despite these passages there have been centuries of blood shed by members of both religions. Said groups finding ample evidence in their preferred holy book to justify their ruthless and hateful hearts. Are we now comparing the members of a faith or the textual concepts contained in the doctrine? If you're judging by membership then Islam and Christianity make good bedfellows.

@jmoonsuede What historians you're referencing? There are numerous contradictions contained in the bible. Yeshua himself, as you noted, said "Do not resist an evil person"(Matt 5:39) yet disobeyed his own words when driving away money changers and merchants in John 2:15. Yeshua also said "I came not to send peace, but a sword."(Matt10:34) and in turn said "all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."(Matt26:52), an admonition commanding his disciples to inaction.

The evidence supporting Islam is just as abundant as the evidence supporting Christianity, that is to say there is none beyond self-contained stories. No non-christian historian recorded a first-hand account of Yeshua or crucifiction. There's not even archeological evidence that Nazareth itself even existed. I won't get into translation errors, though even the name Jesus is wrong.

@ReverendWyrm and in this verse 88:21 god is talking to the prophet telling him to remind people about the blessings, gifts and greatness of god, and the exact translation is that, remind them, u are only a reminder, which means he cant punish or judge people for believing or not believing because hes only a reminder

Or are you using doctrinal texts and unfounded interpretation to justify your position? If the bible explicitly says anything about Islam or Muhammad, by name, I might concede the point. Let me ask you a question. If all this is so important why would a divine creator rely solely on faith?
