Hey I have a nice zebra eel what type of food are u feeding him im gonna start feeding him raw fish to mix up his diet what type of raw fish do u recommend ?
im starting a 45 gallon saltwater tank soon and after cycling and getting it ready im gettin an eel definitely any suggestions on a beginner eel and screw ribbons they aint beast enuff
@szikness Yeah it does look that way but i know if provoked it will defend it self like anything. Heck yeah found that out a bite from a Eel isn't fun well my friends stupid pal did lost a finger dunno what type of Eel he has now but hey i don't wanna put my fingers in there now.. it got a taste of blood..
cute eel. i have an exotic pet shop a few roads from me and they sell sharks ,octopus, snakes,sea-snakes and everything. you name it. they even sell huge moray eels! you are lucky to have one. ive been trying to get one for ages. no luck with my parents.
You are one of the few that have a pretty semi tamed Eel that won't lunge at you once it see's your fingers.
Take if you've been letting your eel get use to you by hand feeding it this way for a long time rather than just open and drop the food into the tank.
@07srt8 other people claim they can hand feed their eel but hardly seen them put their hand +fingers in there (Actual hand feed) People tend to over exaggerate to much about eels being very very aggressive not always the case you have proven that it depends on how you handle them etc. I'm not really good at tank set ups for fish n all what type do you have if i can ask?
had to deal with some things. A friend of a friend thought he was badass
and stuck his hand into a tank with a Eel in it dunno what kind it is cause he got it 2 days before the moron friend of his.. got his hand bit and lost a finger actually heard a loud pop hope it taught em..
Should be ok with them. Those fish should leave the eel alone. Just remember that Zebra's are NOT aggressive so do not put mean fish in the tank with them.
This type of eel wants nothing to do with any size fish. Never has bothered one fish in 3 years. Ate the heck out of ever shrimp I put in the tank but that is what he eats. Never lost a fish to him.
I am thinking of getting an eel in the future. Though feeding him like that kind of worries me. Don't want to lose a finger. Is there another way to feed him?
Also how big do those zebra eels get? They look smaller then the bigger ones I have seen.
They do not get huge. Only 3-4 feet fully grown. And yes he went to feeding off the bottom not long after this video was made. I just had to do the hand thing to get him eating. Then he was goodn from the bottom......:-)
What a beautiful eel! I'm expecting my zebra morray to arrive tomarrow and i cant wait. what size tank is that in video? The tank i have ready for mine is 90 gallons and im wondering how long it will be suitable for him.
@leggomygecko I myself just got done doing much research on just that. In general, eels go good with puffers, lions, tangs, and scorpions. However the Zebra morray is quite doscle and can go good with just about anything that doesnt resemble food.(ie.shrimp or non hermit crabs) .
Well it did hurt when he got my finger but not to bad. They run about 60-100 for smaller ones then mine. I was in hid bag for a bit then into the tank. He has been fine for the 3 years and one move he has been in my tank. He is still alive and eating good and growing.
gosh, its so pretty..U seem to knwo aobut eels o-o coudl SOMEONE HERE PLEASE watch teh video I caught of..soem sort of eel..and tell me what kind it is?its rly pretty,i really wanna know.
Whether you have had many eels before or not (probably because they kept dying) you should listen to the commenters. Get more rock most importantly. Get rid of the small fish they, one day, will eventually become lunch. Get a nice Trigger or Angel. Also if you don't already, get a really good skimmer. Big fish=Big fish poop
Well as replied above. There is lots more rock in the tank and other things for him to hide in and he chooses not to use them. As for the small fish I have had the eel for almost three years with no fish being bothered. This type of eel leaves fish alone. Now shrimps.........bye bye. He eats shrimp so there are none in the tank. Seems to leave the crabs alone also. The tangs and angels eat the crabs.....:-)
Is uk gallons bigger? i have a twenty gallon and i was thinking of getting a baby snowflake eel and a baby fuzzy dwarf lionfish it in then after 5/6 months or when they grow go to a four foot tank so 45 gallon
yes they are i dont know why we cant just use imperial measurements like km kg m cm mm l ml gal and so on yes they are bigger so say you had a 30 gallon (us) that would be 113 litres but if you had a 30 gallon(uk) it would be 136 litres
yes they will some people keep them alright but sme die withing months they are not good for aquariums but luckys enough to hol them good an aquarium then they are good pets
I have had my eel for almost two years now and one move of the tank and all kinds of problems in the tank in the beginning but mine is doing just fine. He is a very cool eel.
i hopefully will start up a saltwater tank next year like i dunno 110 litres or somethin g maybe drop a few clowns in and a snowflake it will be cool. like your eel. You do know when i said bigger is always better it was response to fishyfan:P
The zebra would not bother any of your fish. I have had many large and small fish of all colors and he bothers none of them. But once he starts moving around the tank feed him. That is what I do. That is how you can tell he is hungry. That way there is no chance of a missing fish.
I have a Zebra Moray as well really good pets tho min is a bit timid and is scared of my fish so he doesn't come out that much only when feeding and night time. I feed mine live black mangrove crabs that i catch from the river he loves them over anything.
Yeah I love mine too. I feed mine cleaned, skinned, devained and all that good stuff frozen at the store and feed him that. About $5 a bag and that lasts about a month or so. spending on how hungry he is.
actually I have a crazy eel. I have had plenty of hiding places and he prefers to lay right in the open under the UV sterilizer output hose in the wide open. But he does have a tube he sits in from time to time. But spends most of his time in the wide open in the corner just chilling.
The bigger the better. But you could get away with 100 gallons or bigger. The eel gets to be about 4 feet long when full grown. They spend most of there time in a tube or rocks but they like to stretch out from time to time.
He is really cool. I love him. I do not feed him by hand anymore. He eats on his own now. I only feed him by hand after I got him so he would eat. And he got the end of my fingers a couple of times. No damage to my fingers just like closing your finger in a door. OUCH..:-)
have you ever seen those dinosaur eels?they have turtle feet or something, but they look like those dino eels.seriously check em out.anway is a zebra eel a rare type of eel
there are a variety of freshwater eels. you can get a freshwater moray, fire eel, but if you want a peaceful one i reccomend the peacock eel. they are not as big but they wont eat your fish and are cool to watch
yer its fine, the good thing about the zebra moray is that the dont view fish as a food source. Their diet is made up mostly of crustaceans (crabs etc)
awesome eel. i used to have a snowflake eel but he died. and i know wat U mean on how then are dangerous to feed by hand... cuz i feed a zebra eel too but he was bigger. but they are awesome.
That is such a lovely creature, where did you get him? I was planning on getting one myself, but I never owned a saltwater aquarium before, just tropicals and goldfish. I just need some advice.
I got mine from a local pet store and it would not eat for them for months so they sold him to me for a discounted price. I started eating a week after I got him and he has not stopped since. Had him alittle over a year now. You can find these online for a good price for ones alittle smaller then mine. Less then $100.00.
wow you have balls feeding that eel by hand. I just finished feeding my snowflake 10 minutes ago and went after my and and i got pretty scared seeing a 30inch eel going after me
Yeah mine had got me a couple times but did not hurt my fingers. Just kinda got like a pair of pliers. I no longer feed him by hand since he is now good in the tank and he eats off the bottom of the tank. I put the shrimp in and when they hit the bottom he goes and eats them up. All fingers are now safe....:-)
I feed him about 2-3 times a week. I base it on when he comes out looking for food so I do not have shrimp all over the bottom of the tank going bad and messing things up in the tank. Also the tank is a 220 gallon.
yoooooooo!!!!!!! omg whats your problem your clowns and damsels are gonna die in there with tht eel and if he doesnt eat them he'll chase thme out the tank for sure
if anything get a carpet anemone to protect them if anything goes wrong
Actually the never once bothered them. The small fish have moved on and I have some new fish. Some small and some bigger. Still no problems from the eel. A shark I had got a couple in the past by mistake at night. But all is good in the tank now. No shark or anything that eats other fish.
i have 155 gallons worth of filtration a skimmer powerhead and a carbon filter and in a couple weeks or so i am going to get a huge 400 gallon canister filter i got my zebra today
we have this fish called a dragon eel, hes about half a foot long, he has HUGE teeth but he doesnt touch our other fish, he is purple and has really pretty fins but menacing eyes that will drive you insane gazing into there coldness...jk about that last part though...well kinda lol
You will love it. They are very cool and as a bonus they do not eat your fish. Just feed it every couple three days or when it is out swimming around throw some shrimp in for it.
I love the ocean....but all the online stores say that some small fish need like 100 gallons and then some brute fish need only like 40 gallons... whats
That's good to know i guess... otherwise if the eel continues to listen to that probably it would start to rob the other fish, and someday maybe would try make a videoclip smoking and calling the clownfish "bitches"
The cost of the eel is the last issue you should consider. They need large tanks (100 gallon min. to be humane) and a good skimmer. That costs a lot more than an eel. It was no mistake for the shark that he ate the clown fish. The owner provided him delicious snacks. Frozen shrimp is fine, but not the cooked kind. Some of you are just stupid. You should spend that money on high school english lessons because your grammer and spelling suggest you are drop outs.
Tell me about the costs. That is a 220 gallon tank. And yes the eel and fish cost way less the equipment to keep them alive and happy. Not to mention feeding them. But it is worth it when I have them swimming around after a long day at work. Very relaxing.
Yes, I have had the end of my finger got a couple of times. But still have all my whole fingers. But now I just throw the food in and he eats it right up off the bottom with no problems.
try using garlic juice that you get from your local saltwater fish store or buy it online. That should help. It gets everything all wanting food. But only use like a drop or two. It can smell your tank up until it goes away. Also I use pre done shrimp. No head, tail, skin, guts, etc. It is already cooked and frozen. Make sure in that there is only shrimp. No salt or chemicals.
garlic juice i might have to try that mine eats but not with much gusto do you have to use fishstore garlic juice or can you use the stuff out of the refridgerator?
He needs to worry about his fingers when he is feeding him more than the fish. Be careful when hand feeding, and make sure he is feed to help keep the other fish alive.
Actually I do not feed him by hand anymore. I was doing that since he would not eat any other way. Now I just throw the food in and he gets it as it falls or off the bottom with no problems. and my fingers are safe.
Actually the eel never messed with the clowns. My shark ended up eating them by mistake one night. I was sad since they were very cool little guys. So I have not got new ones so that the same thing does not happen again.
I give them some food but they just look at it.but I haveing a zaber eel in 2 weeks. they dont sale them because of school they dont sale fish not go they go buy stuff for school.
I have order them online they live 2 to 4 weeks.{the zaber eel}I'm a beginner.I have a snow flake eel and 2 puffer but can't have lionfish have bad luck with them.eel 30$ 1foot,puffer24$ dog face, strip puffer 23$
I have oder them online they live for 2 or 4 weeks.{the zaber} I'm a beginner.I have a snowflake eel he is a 1 foot 30$ and have 2 puffer one dog face my favorit fish and he was 24$ the strip puffer was $23
Did the eels eat when you got them? Mine had not eaten for about 3 months at the fish store so they gave me a discount and I bought her. She did not eat for me for about a week and then started eating and has not stopped since. I have had her about a year now. I feed mine frozen shrimp that is skinned with no head, tail, or vain. They come in a bag in the frozen seafood section at the food store. I thaw them out in a small bowl with tank water.
yes he has got me a couple of times. But it was my fault. But now I just throw the food in for him and the shark and they eat off the bottom of the tank. Fingers all good now.
i got some questions ok does the eel and the fish get along wit each other and how big do the eels get and how much did all the creatures cost you all in all did u buy em all in the same place or what and where do u liv at?
The eel is about 3 feet long and should grow to be about 4 feet when done growing. I have spent thousands on fish and creatures in the tank. I have lost many due to ich from where I was buying them. I now buy on-line from a guy in New York. Much better fish. Larger and better priced and shipped right to my door.
yo, im thinkin of gettin a zebra eel for my 110 that is empty atm, i was maybe hoping to get him online but i want to find a reliable site that can be trusted cause they are quite expensive (im used to freshwater prices, lol), whats the site u get ur fish from now?
Hey I have a nice zebra eel what type of food are u feeding him im gonna start feeding him raw fish to mix up his diet what type of raw fish do u recommend ?

wow you have balls feeding that eel by hand. I just finished feeding my snowflake 10 minutes ago and went after my and and i got pretty scared seeing a 30inch eel going after me
JoHnSUUN450 3 years ago
Yeah mine had got me a couple times but did not hurt my fingers. Just kinda got like a pair of pliers. I no longer feed him by hand since he is now good in the tank and he eats off the bottom of the tank. I put the shrimp in and when they hit the bottom he goes and eats them up. All fingers are now safe....:-)

Awesome!, I love the setup man. I have a snowflake moray, but he tore my clownfish up. Nice job!
zb12345zb 3 years ago
My eel has never hurt or bothered any of the fish I have had in my tank. I have had small fish and large fish with no problems at all.

07srt8 3 years ago
how often do you feed it and what size tank? thanks man
travishartley 3 years ago
I feed him about 2-3 times a week. I base it on when he comes out looking for food so I do not have shrimp all over the bottom of the tank going bad and messing things up in the tank. Also the tank is a 220 gallon.
07srt8 3 years ago
thanks for the help.
travishartley 3 years ago
yoooooooo!!!!!!! omg whats your problem your clowns and damsels are gonna die in there with tht eel and if he doesnt eat them he'll chase thme out the tank for sure
if anything get a carpet anemone to protect them if anything goes wrong
kwillz14 3 years ago
Actually the never once bothered them. The small fish have moved on and I have some new fish. Some small and some bigger. Still no problems from the eel. A shark I had got a couple in the past by mistake at night. But all is good in the tank now. No shark or anything that eats other fish.

Glad to hear all is going well. But I hope you are looking for a bigger tank. But in the mean time enjoy your new friend and keep them healthy.
07srt8 3 years ago
i just lost the flounder and i moved the white eel so only 3 fishes in the 55
peterbiltexd 4 years ago
Make sure you have killer filters running. Like 100 gallons or more on your 55. Are you going to get a larger tank?
07srt8 3 years ago
hopefully in a few years i can get a larger tank we have pored thousands of dollars into our two tanks
peterbiltexd 3 years ago
do you think a zebra will do in a 55 with a snow flake and a white eel and a wrasse and a flounder??
peterbiltexd 4 years ago
For a short time they would be ok. You will want a larger tank if you want them together.
07srt8 3 years ago

sasquatch105 4 years ago
You will love it. They are very cool and as a bonus they do not eat your fish. Just feed it every couple three days or when it is out swimming around throw some shrimp in for it.
Enjoy.
07srt8 4 years ago
I love the ocean....but all the online stores say that some small fish need like 100 gallons and then some brute fish need only like 40 gallons... whats

zueq 4 years ago
Yes I am sure if I did not feed him he would eat everything. But I feed him and all is good. He has not snacked on any fish.
07srt8 4 years ago
Poor zebra eel listening to hip hop all day long......
CorduroyPT 4 years ago 6
No that is just what happen to be on the tv when I made the clip.
07srt8 4 years ago
That's good to know i guess... otherwise if the eel continues to listen to that probably it would start to rob the other fish, and someday maybe would try make a videoclip smoking and calling the clownfish "bitches"
CorduroyPT 4 years ago
The cost of the eel is the last issue you should consider. They need large tanks (100 gallon min. to be humane) and a good skimmer. That costs a lot more than an eel. It was no mistake for the shark that he ate the clown fish. The owner provided him delicious snacks. Frozen shrimp is fine, but not the cooked kind. Some of you are just stupid. You should spend that money on high school english lessons because your grammer and spelling suggest you are drop outs.
kristiemansfield 4 years ago
Tell me about the costs. That is a 220 gallon tank. And yes the eel and fish cost way less the equipment to keep them alive and happy. Not to mention feeding them. But it is worth it when I have them swimming around after a long day at work. Very relaxing.

can i keep a 7 inches eel in a 20 gallon
ravenfan295 4 years ago
only for a short time. You would want a much larger tank since they can get big depending on the type of eel.
07srt8 4 years ago
how u get him to eat shrip i have a blackedge about that size and he will only eat other fish
Th3FiShMaN 4 years ago
try using garlic juice that you get from your local saltwater fish store or buy it online.
07srt8 4 years ago
garlic juice i might have to try that mine eats but not with much gusto do you have to use fishstore garlic juice or can you use the stuff out of the refridgerator?
peterbiltexd 3 years ago
that's a mistake putting those clownfish in there, dont be suprised if they get eaten
kent12394 4 years ago
He needs to worry about his fingers when he is feeding him more than the fish. Be careful when hand feeding, and make sure he is feed to help keep the other fish alive.
JodumScrodum 4 years ago
Actually I do not feed him by hand anymore. I was doing that since he would not eat any other way. Now I just throw the food in and he gets it as it falls or off the bottom with no problems. and my fingers are safe.
07srt8 4 years ago
Actually the eel never messed with the clowns. My shark ended up eating them by mistake one night. I was sad since they were very cool little guys. So I have not got new ones so that the same thing does not happen again.
07srt8 4 years ago
He won't stress out as much if you give him a place to hide.
xazerman 4 years ago
He is not stressed. He hides in a tube I have in there for him but he seems to love the one powerhead for the water movement. Go figure.

07srt8 4 years ago
has he ever chomped ya? seems like he's pretty nice...
OwenPikap 4 years ago

i got some questions ok does the eel and the fish get along wit each other and how big do the eels get and how much did all the creatures cost you all in all did u buy em all in the same place or what and where do u liv at?
martyleo12 4 years ago
The eel is about 3 feet long and should grow to be about 4 feet when done growing. I have spent thousands on fish and creatures in the tank. I have lost many due to ich from where I was buying them. I now buy on-line from a guy in New York. Much better fish. Larger and better priced and shipped right to my door.
07srt8 4 years ago
