@intavent nonesense.... sugar is a main ingredient in this drink... if you want to stay healthy.... drink water or fresh fruit juice.... otherwise the other igredient - alcohol - will cause you fatty liver and you'll still get fat so sugar doesnt really matter... life's short anyway so live it and stop the worry
I hope I get a reply to this: I got a cocktail book with 1001 drinks in it, and in many of them it says "Soda" as an ingredient. Is soda actually soda as in Coca Cola etc, or just the water with like fizz?
As a budding bartender, I have a not-so-related question when you're serving these drinks.
When you're icing the glasses, you're using one hand to cover the glass, however I assume that neither the glass or the ice should ever touch your hand? Something picky perhaps, but do bartenders care about that, in the face of a busy environment and the eyes of a customer?
@Paperstar when i was taught i was told to do that. No your hand shouldn't touch the glass or ice. It's mainly to stop any sort of splashing or ice shards from flying about and pegging the customer.
Thanks for the response Chitty! At the time I didn't know the answer to most questions, but it's been a short while since my post--been working in a bar since then, and I can definitely agree with preventing ice shards or ice in general hitting anything near the other side of the bar. :D
I just brought two bottles of Bombay London Dry Gin.I don't know exactly what to do with them,but I have a huge interest in bartending,hospitality and culinary skills.
I am used to pre-mixes,and I can make a basic cosmopolitan and long is ice tea,but I am looking to expand my skils.
@fixdeluxe1 youtube is your friend in this case just search up some gin cocktails and you'll get a plethora of drink tutorials. Or better yet subscribe to shaketv. This guy is definitely one of the better cocktail guru's I've seen.
@fixdeluxe1 This is actually a Gin Fizz, a Tom Collins is not shaken, but a fizz is before the soda is put in. It does change the drink since apart from the method they have the same ingredients.
K this ones fail, you mix a tom collins u dont shake it and it is garnished with an orangeflag AND you dont have any sugar in it, it is a sour drink. Please.
Yes, the classic Tom Collins recipe says to mix but over the years it has swayed toward shaking. Orange flag? Where might i find orange in the drink to justify this? Tom Collins isn't supposed to be sour, it can be sour if you choose it to be but it is supposed to be a refreshing drink, not neccessarily sour.
Hi mate. I love your videos and I like your style, I feel like I can trust you as a bartender but still.. You put way too many ice cubes - it'll change the taste of this drink, I don't think that you should do this :) and all the lemons and so on - when you put it on/into your drink, you shouldn't do this with your bare hands if u know what I mean. Still respect and greetings ;) sorry for my English ;)
I f u keep ur hygene at high standard.. i dont see why u cant handle items with ur bare hands.. thats why we have rules.. no rings no jewelery etc.... does ur chef handle everything with utensils? i dont think so.. bartending is far more than opening beer.. u need to put creativity and passion to it.. just like a rly good chef
yes recorded recipe is garnished with a slice of orange and a cherry.... even listed in iba website.. but nice collins there ..every 1 does it his own way. but i like to keep as close as the original recipe... i dont want some1 changing things in a cocktail i created..
omg... u know all coctail's? and u can make whatever u want?

Hmm Myles. A Tom Collins is a stired drink and it originally calls for old tom gin, not london dry.
Atleast the drink had quality ingredients.

@Ashran use Tonic Water.

@Ashran Soda water.
Coca Cola, Sprite, Dr Pepper etc are Soft Drinks or 'pop' drinks. Soda refers to soda water or tonic water.

@08sonoman It wont taste the same, but if you are at a party or just making it for friends I don't think theyll complain too much.
Go for it. It depends how you want it to taste.
