@ixcreme Good question, the tigers we rescue have mixed genetics so they are not suitable for breeding programs to preserve the species, it also clams the animals down and therefore gives them a better quality of life in captivity.
@BigCatRescue what gives you the right to decide what genes are right or wrong for a breed? thats a feeble excuse, tigers are endangered the more we're able to breed the better chance of their survival.using your excuse to neuter them cuz they 'dont have the right genes' would you do that to humans? neuter them because they have the wrong personality? in the human world thats ethnic cleansing normally associated with racism so if thats the case your ethnically cleansing tigers and racist to them
@Raporia All species survival plans require tigers being bred to be pure specimens, we don't make up the rules. All tigers bred in captivity will never see the wild anyway, what we need to do is preserve habitat and educate people to exist side by side with these animals if we can't do this we're in trouble and the tigers will be gone forever. If we leave them alone they will breed very well and bounce back in the wild.
@BigCatRescue surely with a breed thats in so much danger of becoming extinct and their natural homes disappearing at an alarming rate does it really matter about their gene types as long as the breed lives to see another day? they will never bounce back in the wild because man will continue to destroy their habitat even you can never stop that so the next best thing is to have them in private responcible ownership or high quality conservations.
@Raporia Tigers are very plentiful in captivity, the number of PRIVATELY owned captive tigers in the USA is over 5000, almost double the number of tigers left in the wild. We do not need to worry about tigers disappearing they are big money makers and are overbred in captivity as it is.
@BigCatRescue 5000 isnt actually that many when you concider there was once approx 30,000 tigers in the world, even when you add approx 1300 in the wild and 5000 in captivity thats nowhere near the amount there opnce was so with that in mind how is just 6300 approx enough? surely when it hits 20,000 then we can assume the tiger population would no longer be endangered and with no room left in the wild where are they supposed to go? private/captive breeding is the key to their survival
@Raporia That figure is probably not the correct number there is probably many more tigers living miserable lives in backyard cages. There are approx 3200 tigers left in the wild not 1300. Your logic is wrong, there will never be a shortage of tigers living in captivity, they are unfortunately constantly being bred. WILD tigers are in trouble however but captive breeding isn't the key to the survival of WILD tigers.
I'd be a zookeeper but I read how hard it is to become one..makes me sad I just want to experience a big cat's personality how they are I want to "meet" one :p is there something so horribly wrong with that? NOT like I said I wanted to walk one on a leash or expect it to act like a pet .
People without all this can still own a big cat, this is the problem. Wether you have the money and space or not, big cats should not be kept as "pets" !!! :)
@gallanator We are against the private ownership of these animals, because the majority of our cats are abandoned "pets" that people no longer want when they realize what a mistake they have made! I have sent you a link so you can read more about it....
they should put all the cats together in a enclosed field and let them have a all out war. and also record so it can be uploaded to youtube. i look forward to watching this.
but they had some of the best years of their life at BCR! look at BCR's website, they have over 300 videos and lots of the cougars you see in the vid above. You can check out their history.
God those people make me sick, get a real job! Can't they do something better with themselves than profiting off of misery? I'm gonna come visit you guys and see about volunteering, I only live about an hour away.
I don't know if it's just me, but the tigers orgional enclosure is larger than their new enclosure, and has a shelter, but not as green. I also noticed that when the guy was saying something bad about the origional zoo, he couldn't finish his sentence, because their was really nothing bad about the zoo. Their "rescueing" the cats, in my opinion, is actualy purchasing the cats.
You will see that two of them lived in a small concrete room. They have a nice larger enclosure now with pools and grass etc. The older two females have the same. They are all well ajusted now. We did not purchase the cats but indeed had to pay for their enclosures, travel, and now all their care. We don't need to "buy" tigers as people dump them around all too often. Their former home was not a zoo but a former circus trainers backyard who was getting rid of them after he was shut down.
I visited Big Cat Rescue last friday the animal's enclosures are beautiful with trees, grass and pool. When we went TJ was splashing in and out of the pool and bella was chuffing at us, that is a tiger's way of saying hello
regardless of how you feel about big cat rescue or not I hope you realise that the place where they came from was shut down and these animals had no where else to go. If BCR had not taken them they would have been put down. Taking in new tigers is an expensive job as BCR will look after them for the rest of their lives. BCR has enough tigers to look after and would have had no need to purchase any animals
BCR do everything they can to give these Big Cats the life they deserve, releasing the back into the wild wouldnt do much good as they wouldnt know how to hunt and take care of themselves.
BCR spend so much money and time and effort just trying to rescue these cats, sometimes they have to turn a cat down due to less money and room..
The tigers original enclosure is awful, at least at BCR they have tiger neighbours they can watch, Bone night, Blood popsicles, live prey ,& a good diet
Why we fix our tigers: The main problem in India is human population on the parks, loss of tiger habitat, as well as tiger poaching. Adding tigers to that problem wont help. Keeping their gene pool alive for a possible future where they can roam once more is up to the tigers in the SSP type breeding programs and not up to the private population of crossbred tigers. Supporting the parks in India with money for security and buying more land is the answer, and we do that.
thats incredible :D im so glad you were, at least, able to get these 4. theyre such beautiful creatures... its really quite tragic that humans would want to kill them because theyre "no longer needed." wish i could be a volunteer
Hey Brian,I love your new video. And am so happy for those 4 cats.Wishing them the best.I'm sure they will adjust to their new, much better life fast.Very nicely done.Keep up good work.See you soon ;-D

thank god you guys took them in! i also wish there was not a need for homes for these cats, but since there is, i'm glad you guys are able to help them. they are in safe hands now! :)
Have you called the sanctuary to get information about their volunteer program? Guidelines etc..? I recommend you do that. They have anawesome volunteer program. If you need a phone number for them, message me and I will get it to you.
I do like seeing this happening. Seeing you guys rescue these beautiful creatures gives me hope that less animals suffer because of us. I don't understand how anyone can want to own one, its hardly like the tiger/lion etc is a domesticaed breed!
