I am so bias about explorer , I used to own it on VHS when I was little and like a lot of Joe Dante's film and TV shows (eerie indianna) it is a part of my childhood, I just cant see the flaws in that film!

One of my favorite directors. I agree, it's almost hard to hear him talk about it being difficult to watch the film when it's become such a childhood staple for myself and so many other people I know.

Explorers was SUCH a formative influence on my life, a HUGE source of joy and inspiration for me in my childhood...almost, but not quite, as much as Star Wars.

This goes a long way towards explaining why you're having "SUCH HUGE" difficulty distinguishing facts and reality from your illogical, conjectural, childish fantasy world.

Anyhow, as I was saying and as you were blathering, faith by definition is except from proof or objective evidence, so back up specious assertions or concede to your wishful fantasy FAITH. Go!

Nice upload. Very interesting to hear Dante's take on one of my favourite flicks growing up as a kid. It is a bit heartbreaking to hear him refer to it as being so difficult to watch, though, as to me... It's just about perfect as it is, ya know?

i rate the explorers as the best kids movie ever made. i rate it higher than ET and all the rest. its simply outstanding. i wish they would do it justice with a dvd release that isnt cut and has extras. thank u for the upload. the 80s will not be beaten in terms of creativity and imaginative awe.

I can only rate it the same way you do because it's THE movie that directly influenced my flying dreams!!! i mean, seriously, some of my dreams were just like the flying sequences of the movie. Some days ago when i came across the video i shed tears. I wish i saw it on a big screen, though, i was a tv child. and now... fuck, i'm thirty ;)

yeh it creeps up on you doesnt it, the fact that the movies that we loved as a child are now somewhat obscure to most modern moviegoers, i blame george lucas, he and speilberg brought in the blockbuster. but george turned it into a full scale war on media of all sorts. FOX took the buisness model and turned it into an absolute monster which is why now we get 4 sequals to 1 original release. however JAMES CAMERON may be about to change this, google AVATAR. the 80s mentality may be coming back =)

I would have loved Jo Dante to have evolved as a filmmaker through the 90s and 00s.He's one of my favorites.His work is intelligent and has defined a very special era early back in the 80s.But I think he remained a bit trapped inside his satirical wit and kind of b-movie sensibility.His movies lack the epic touch that par example Zemeckis managed to bring in his own work.Nonetheless he is still an excellent filmmaker.You can still learn from most of his films & enjoy them as timeless pieces

Thanks for the Upload, its wonderful to hear Dante's comments about this wonderful film. Who knows, maybe it was "Divine Intervention" that allowed the so called final cut of the film to remain as is, maybe added scenes would have ruined the magic that's already there. I wish i was there.
