For f**ks sake ... who the hell in Rock drumming 'doesn't' have Mike Portnoy moves? In other words, what has Mike Portnoy not turned into rock cliche? I'm sorry but there are only so many simple rudiments. Drumming is infinite even w/in the limitations of a genre, and he does have his own style regardless of whether or not Portnoy's done some of this.

The first time I saw Portnoy play (Live at Budokon DVD) I thought to myself, wow, I do alot of this. Same as when I saw Peart. Now, I do have my own style, it's way outside of them, but I honestly think there's a sort of natural progression to drumming styles if you stay within a genre and work on it. Where did portnoy come up w/ his ideas? I dunno ... scatterbrained this morning.
