  • Very cool cartoon-video, the sax solo excellent at minute 2:53

the kind of elton like ever!!!!!!!!

  • This sounds like a dumb question, but is there any reason for the hat? Like does he wear it for some particular reason?

Also this song is great :3

  • 2:11 - 2:13 Lady Gaga sighting! What a lovely bellybutton.

  • This song reminds me of New Orleans. Just it being about a club and the saxophone playing. Also probably because a memory of it for me was when I saw it on MTV in a hotel in New Orleans when I was visiting there as a child.

  • Love that picture of Elton John in the top hat by the door.

  • I was so young watching this on mtv,"the original video" that is,i couldnt make out the words but thankyou google for intstantly bringing the broken puzzle into place. I loved it from the start.

  • This old song is way ahead of its time. What if caucasia, riddled by high debts

and overpopulation is the "Club at the End of the Street." When could economic

    collapse lead to destitution?

  • What an absolute SHAME that this song wasn't a big hit... Extremely overlooked, since this song has been preformed live a grand total of 3 times (the 2 One Night Only shows and the warmup in PA)

  • i luv this song it a moving groove, ha ha wow!

  • Surprised this did not do better in charts. Phenomenal rhythm, beat, great balance of instrumentation. Some songs that should go very high never do.

  • this should have been a top 10 hit in uk only got to 47 even after sacrifice getting to no1

  • This video is AWESOME! God bless Sir Elton John.

    EJ fan since 1975

  • is this lady gaga dancing at 2:12???

    xD

  • EJ doesn't sing this song live much, and when he does...it doesn't sound quite as "tight" as the record. Perhaps thats why its not played as much. Personally, I love it as well. Hope he plays it in Reno next month. Just scored some floor seats.

Wikipedia also says that EJ was working heavily w/ Ryan White thing when this was released, and hence, thats why the video was a cartoon. Perhaps he just doesn't feel that close to this as other songs..

  • @DaveC01523 The story is that MCA insisted on a video for this song, Elton didn't want to devote the time because of Ryan, so he met MCA halfway and did an animated video.

  • so cheerful, very contagious, can't stand still :)

  • I always wondered why this track was never on his Greatest Hits album 1970-2002. I remember it like it was yesterday. Same with Healing Hands. It seems as if the hits off that album went forgotten. The Greatest Hits album went from I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That to The One, leaving the two previously mentioned songs.

  • Big fun. But can't remember what I was doing then. I might've been in the club...

  • Godwin's law should now state as an online discussion about music grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Justin Bieber or Kanye West approaches 1.

But good video. I've always loved this song and the video is quite good, even if Elton didn't have that much input into it..

  • I was really surprised this wasn't a much bigger hit, i don't think it had much radio play for some reason, though it's very catchy

  • @mizofan As i remember, this went to the no. 30 spot in 1990 Billboard Hot 100.

  • @Supersweetguy it was a minor hit in the UK too, but i'd expected it to be much bigger

  • The animation of this video looks likes a Saturday morning cartoon!

  • It's one of my favorite song from Elton John.

I never understood why Elton John was singing this song the first time in 2000 at Madison Square Garden ... it is too good

  • I've always considered this his best song

  • doodoowop...doodoowop!

  • Didn't hit number one on the charts, but it sure did hit number one in my heart, and that is all that matters.

  • Those were the days !! Great music and video !!

  • Always loved this one. -Never knew it had such an awesome animated video! Thanks! =)

  • One of my all time Favoirite songs... Thanks again.... :-)

  • great song from the 80s!!!

  • hit

  • After his mid-1970s peak, Elton John struggled to make music that was worthy of his reputation. This song though I think is really pretty good. He's remained a great performer and still knows how to rock but his audience must have changed because, on the albums anyway, the screaming guitars went south a long time ago.

  • What i like about this video is the cartoon versions of the fashion styles of the 1980's. Remember how so many of the outfits was sooooo cool and awesome?!

  • Why o why is this song not as popular as the others. I think i'ts a great song! And the video is pretty cool. Maybe because it did'nt get enough air time in i'ts day or bad promotion by the record company.

  • At the time this song was released, Elton John wasn't thinking about anyone or anything music related; a young friend of his was dying of AIDS.

The original plan was to shoot this video with live actors, but when Elton didn't want to devote the time to a live shoot, cause his frend was dying, he had the video animated instead.

This wasn't a major hit, but its one of his more popular songs.

  • I've never ever seen this video before! I love it! Especially the cartoon of Elton! hehe!

  • If there is a sax, and a big bass thumping, a drummer, and EJ as keyboardist, how is it a three piece?

  • This song is great..... I would love to be jamming with Patrick Swayze and every other cute man I ever had a crush on... Now to Dance.... :-)

  • from the best album oj elton john!thanks for upload!

  • elton john also holds the record for the greatest #1 selling single of all time "candle in the wind 1997" re-written for princess diana.

  • Lennon and McCartney got to be right there as well.

  • same as kanye..done for the new millenium what elvis did for the 50s..brought in a new genre and made it sexy..in 100 years he will be seen as a legend mark my words

  • Elton John has beaten elvis presleys record for string of consecutive number 1 hits in the charts over the years

  • Yeah Elton John's song would run circles around Elvis's songs and KWEST. Elton John rules.

  • kanye..? You must be fu**ing kidding me.

This fishsticks loving lousy songwriter cant be measured with any of those greatest songwriters mentioned.

mark my words; in 10 years NO ONE will speak about KWEST. Not enough substance.

  • @dnhug Not to mention AUTOTUNE 'cos he can't sing without it!

People will remember classic hits like this one and these recent years will be like a void decade nobody will.

  • @dnhug

In 10 years time we will still talk about Elton John because mate legends never die.

Bands like LMFAO will be forgotten by then.

  • @boogs2007 soo agreed mate. Very true indeed

  • The GREAT ~SIR ELTON JOHN!!!

  • The Greatest Melody Writer Ever In Popular Music

  • id say thats highly subjective mate

  • Thats What Bernie Taupin Said At his 60th Birthday Celebration When He Introduced Elton,Look At The Body Of Work Between He And Bernie Since 1967 When They First Met,There Collection Of Songs Is Endless,Ever since empty sky theres been 45 to 50 albums that elton has done, and hes due to work on a another coming out late this summer 2009,i mean come on dude these guys are geniusness.thats not even including the work hes done for disney,or broadway.

  • bernie taupin is one guy...u are one guy..that makes 2...u are fogetting the other 6.9 billion people in the world who prob wouldnt agree..sorry but i stand by my last statment and say it is highly subjective

  • I think what you just said is highly subjective

  • Good EJ song , great video.

  • ej rocks!!

    my favorite ej's song!

  • This was one of his best and I think most underappreciated songs. How it only peaked at #28 on the charts is baffling to me.

  • The original plan was to do this video with live actors. But Elton was more focused on spending time with Ryan White (A friend of his, that lost his life to AIDS).

MCA demanded a video for this song, so the original plan was used, only Elton had the video animated.

  • dickclarkfan....if this is indeed the case we are all richer for it. Elton got to spend time with a good friend who was losing his life, Ryan White got that time, and we all got a great animated video for our troubles.

  • I love how it's animated. I'm glad he didn't use real live actors. Like you said, we are the richer..and so was Ryan. :)

  • One of my fave EJ songs. Elton John is DEFINITELY one of my all time fave singers and this proves it!

  • great!!!, nothing else to say!

  • Realy cool!

  • Ха, почему же я не видел это видео раньше, пасиб за посылку. :)

Wow, I didn't seen this video, thanks forsharing. :)

  • cool animated elton great song from reg strikes back

  • it's from the album"sleeping with the past".

  • He's right, it is from "Sleeping From The Past" same album that gave us "Sacrifice".

  • hmmm...from sleeping with the past.

  • Amazing animation!
