He sang this at the end of a concert after i told him it was my favorite. he even whispered the cusswords because I mentioned that my mom didn't like them! He's really cool in person.
Jim - You're so right about Livingston. He was an absolute delight backstage & with the audience. He's had an immediate command over the audience & everyone loved him. Backstage he was gracious & complementary to staff/performers. Two of his former students performed after he did. When they went out to plug in their gear, the guitarist had problems. After frantic attempts to get it working, Liv stuck his head out & said, "we covered this in class!" and cracked up the house. Priceless!
I'm Jim Cole and this is who I learned the song from. I have learned more about how to care for an audience from Livingston Taylor then anyone else I've ever observed. He is tirelessly gracious to his fans both on and off the stage. His vulnerabilty and bravery night after night in front of a live audience paved the way for many of us acoustic players. Oh yeah, my brother Dana provided the shots for his "Unsolicited Material" live cd. All the best, Liv Taylor! You continue to be an inspiration!
Admittedly, I have a bias toward original artists. I would recommend getting Andy Breckman's version.

@madmartigan4077 Mr. Breckman puts a LOT more pathos in his singing of HIS song. :D
