I am using a Mac and running Tor on a home computer but can't get it to use Firefox instead of Aurora. Any tips to have it run with Firefox, which I assume will be a bit faster than Aurora, right? Thank you for this great server!
@yujiboy2003 Aurora *is* Firefox - just a version modified to block plugins that bypass proxy settings and leak information. Tor is going to be slower than your usual connection because your traffic is bouncing all over the world and we also need more relays.
Hi I have a question if I use TOR for online shopping can my neighbor still see what what I am looking at and look at my private information? and does the information still get saved to his router?
@codelyokoblue The person running your connection should only be able to see a connection to the first Tor node if anything, not the sites that you are visiting. Your Internet traffic runs through 3 computers in different locations when you are using Tor. You still need to look for a secure connection to the merchant's web site (the address should start with "h t t p s" - something that the Tor browser forces if the people running the website have made it available) whether you use Tor or not.
Thanks for this amazing bundle. Works a treat! As an added bonus, I learned that the Norton Security Suite provided for me "free" by my ISP is doing things behind my back of which I was unaware until I tested the USB on my old WinXPSP3 desktop PC. Norton immediately erased the "start-tor-browser.exe" file!! There's something in the Suited called "Sonar Advanced Protection". What that seems to be is something that's been quietly phoning home without my knowledge. I'm out of chars ... sorry.
@MsNCarlucci : comment continued. I've been running the installed Vidalia bundle for about a week or so - the Ninja USB version seems to work better for me (I've probably misconfigured my browser options somehow). The USB version works great for me, though. I had a bit of trouble understanding the idea of "tar and go" under Fedora and CentOS - now with the WinXP-USB test drive under my belt, I get the idea. I'm hoping to run a relay in the near future. Thanks, torproject!
@lrv965 you asked: how can I watch vids with Tor? Short answer: you cannot. It's risky for exposing your true IP so the flash stuff it needs is disabled. If you need to watch vids anonymously, try glomming on to an open WiFi router in your area. If you don't care about anonymity (just wanna watch vids), toggle Tor off.
It does not work for me, I dowloaded Firefox 5.0 in order to use this but it says it is not compatible with that version of firefox, what version is it compatible with and where can i find it? Thanks
@h4m34 - the Tor Bundle has its own browser (Aurora-FF based) no configuration headaches :). Click the TorBundleStart and you see the Vidalia Panel, just wait a little while and the Aurora browser automagically appears. If you wanna use FF5, try installing the regular Vidalia Bundle and it will config your browser for you.
You can then tweak it thru FF options->tools->advanced->connection. Personally, I find the Aurora browser adequate for my anon surfing. YMMV.
@PacoAnthony the flash plugin is disabled by default to protect your security since the flash plugin can leak your real IP address to sites, which would defeat the whole purpose of using tor.
encourage sites to use open standards such as HTML5 to display their content to make it more accessible and consistent, and open formats such as Theora video that anybody can use for any reason.
@eveninghorse yes, in torbutton's settings panel. by default plugins like flash and java are disabled for security reasons, because they can be used to defeat your anonymity.
If i already have Tor (regular) can i still download the browser bundle or will i have to uninstall the original?

morgan2993 3 weeks ago
@morgan2993 The Tor Browser Bundle should start Vidalia and then open Aurora for you once you are connected to the Tor network.
