seriusly guys im just disappointing i was borned in 1983... it would be nice toborn in the 1993 or 2000 so when i will reach 20 -25 years i an play with those kind of stuff maybe online with server with 200-300 human soldeirs in battlefields.
@M1lko01 Don't worry man, ArmA3 is the public version, it's coming soon and has 100+ player servers. :) I played OpFalsh on a LAN years ago, four men on each team each controlling 11 AI squad mates. We battled to control the entire island. Games lasted 8+ hours. Some of the best gaming of my life.
With the up coming datadisk Op Arrowhead together with ARMA2 they are still a bargain compare with the VBS2 price tag; that is if BI managed to fix all the engine bug without creating new ones
this looks great but i like to have a campaign in games / story so arma2 does everything i need as i dont make missions only play around with the editor etc. saying that vbs has some great features id like to see modded into arma 2. i would love to try this sim out though but to expensive .
Yeah, the FLIR is listed as one of the options for Operation Arrowhead as well. Arrowhead includes a lot of US Army units and some unannounced vehicles as well. Personally, I think the AC-130 would be an easy item to transfer over from VBS2 to Arrowhead, but no one's talking about that. I hope the PEQ lasers are added to vehicles as well like helos and C-130s. But BI seems to have the same attitude that Porsche has toward the Caymen. Keep it limited so people spend more money.
hell yes. that is awesome. but to be fair, they do need a way to pay their employees. and they are a busisness. they aren't about to release whole new factions and maps without having you pay for it you know what i mean? lol personally i don't mind spending 20-30 for a new expasion when i know it will keep them in business, i am sure they are doing their best with patches and updates.
Totally agree. This is a small company that is doing a tramendous about, way more than any other game developer, to improve and expand their game and offer massive support to the community. In this way, BI is unique and I think they deserve to make money for their incredible efforts. Great company!
ummm... if i crank my system. OC my cards ( i run dual 8800 GTX 256 ers)... ARMA 2 looks about the same as this... one look through the advanced settings of ARMA2 will show you it was also designed to be used with VR systems (aspect ratio options etc)
@ghilliemaster because this thing is designed as a Military training tool... individual personal copy packages cost up around $850 USD as zhiheng2005 said before.
@zorbaknecromancer, not true. VBS2 and ArmA are very different products that share a core engine (that has been branched). ArmA2 is a newer engine than VBS2 (VBS2 is based on ArmA1). Also, OFP came first, then VBS1. ArmA1 came first, then VBS2. Since then, ArmA2 and Operation Arrowhead have come out, with no comparable product from the VBS series.
It's not really a game. It's a military simulator that is incredibly expandable. Watch some other ways (in other vids) that this tool has been incorporated into training crew members how to communicate with pilots in blackhawks, how soldiers are trained to correctly interact with indigenous populations (even with a language barrier), etc. Very networkable tool with after action reports, very robust. Much larger than what appears in this video alone.
The military version (VBS) are from Operation Flash Point, but militarized. All what a soldiers know in practical and theorical portion such patrol, security, Amphibious Operation ect can be used in VBS not the Civil Version because Armed Assault (civil version) don't have exactly the same realism from VBS. Example the VBS use IED,terrorist and recreate afghanistan with more 10,000 km2 they create Helmand,Kandahar,Kaboul and recreate all military vehicle/equipement from Canadian/UK/US military.
The map editor on military version is in realtime, and officier can reccord the session and know who made what and who made mistake.
The real time map editor made the VBS increase difficulty from a patrol, example a no where terrorist attack or IED explosion and change the mission priority from patrol to evacuation. You can made exactly the same from Arma but isn't specialized on real military portion.
This simulation was made for military's all around the world as a training device. I pretty sure its possible to get it by going to the site and contacting the people about buying it. They will then send you a price and stuff. Im also pretty sure its over 100$.
I got that price by emailing the company and asking how much it costs. They said the only version you can purchase is 549$. I know 1500$ is what it costed a long time ago but it now costs 540$ you can even email the company themself
Ok, nice that, but here is the big question, is vehicle damage realistic, like a FPS Theatre Of War or Combat mission? (not like ARMA & Op. Flashpoint). Is A.I. advanced?
mp5mg42 sigh... Operation Flashpoint is civilian version of VBS1 and Arma is civ version of VBS2 same engine same company. Therfore same vehicle damage modeling. And since military buys VBS not ToW or Combat must think VBS1&2(OFP,Arma) is better and VBS2 cost is something like 1800$ get 40$ Arma instead(or Arma2 when it comes out). Keep in mind VBS2 will come only as a tool set, no campaign no missions you have to make them your self with the editor.
It is really cheap now 549$ if im not mistaken I'm purchasing it in a few weeks also extremely polite staff and they respond to emails in no more than 3 days if not hours..
I played this in the New Zealand Army, Its intense, I found especially with incoming fire I flinched. The Set up in our Virtual Training Centre is Perfect.
My favorite parts are those showing the British army's challenger 2 tanks, lanrover's and infantry. I can only dream of any of this making it into Arma.
hope FLIR comes into ArmA2, made by BIS or the community. Becoming very interested in VBS2 because of all th features. Videos like this makes me want it even more :) nice one mate.
Yeah it looks awesome. There seems to be alot a exclusive neat little features in VBS2 (thermal view, craters, laser pointers, building destruction etc) that people are struggling/wanting to simulate in Arma. I wonder why these things were not included/considered as standard in Arma? The game engines dont seem to be vastly different on appearance. The price tag certainly doesnt justify VBS2 to the mil sim gamer. One can only hope these things are built into Arma 2.
resonator: VBS2 has been in constant development since *after* ArmA shipped. These are funded developments, millions of dollars worth of contracts, by huge organizations like the USMC, UK MoD, etc. Comparing what VBS2 has, over a year and a half after ArmA's launch, to ArmA itself, is unfair and inaccurate. I would not expect anything from VBS2 to necessarily show up in ArmA2 by default, but surely some features will carry over. Also, A2 will likely have features that VBS2 will lack.
It's not that ArmA is "better", it's that it's a much more sane purchase for a civilian user. VBS2 has loads of great features - for the gamer, though, the $1500 price on those features is not worth it. However, if it was a $30 product, that would be a whole different story. It isn't, though,.
The graphics could use some improvement. Everything looks flat.
