  • Amazing Delivery,

  • BGS

  • It's truly insane when Ian and Martin each have to take the hand-claps at different points due to being literally tied up with another duty. Pretty amazing musicianship. Also seems like a live sound job nightmare lol.

  • outstanding! thanks heaps Kost!

  • 3:47 the best part ever! :)

  • looking for a particular song, don't no the name but lyrics go: "Go upstairs take off your make up, fold your clthes neatly away, me I'll sit and write this luv song as I all to seldom do!" any hint please message me

  • Fire at Midnight, also from the album "songs from the wood"

  • Amazing! I love Jethro Tull from the depths of my soul.

  • God damn. Ian Anderson is insane! But this song is so intricate and deep!

  • This is the best song on what I consider to be their tour de force album! I love it! Saw them in Toronto on the Crest of a Knave tour (which was an awesome album in its own right) and they opened with this. I was blown away at how tight they were Ian Anderson was at his absolute best that night!

  • Who can do this?

    So vibrant and complex.

    Rocks out "intricately".

    Splendid!

  • Amazing performance from a remarkable man.

  • Ian is such an expressive performer - I LOVE it!!!

  • Even tho I mostly listen to Eazy E and stuff like that. I love this song. Wish more music was more like this, and less like money money bling bling gucci money gucci bling gucci money.

  • this deserves much more than a millions views....

  • I must ask. Are their modern performances just as energetic? Because this is easily one of the best live performances I've ever seen.

  • @Commandergeno Their modern performances are showing the fact that the main members of the band (including Ian) are getting old, but that is the only thing holding them back the tiniest bit. I saw them live about a year ago, and it is one of the best shows I ever went to - even though Ian is struggling with the higher notes. Their spirit is as alive as always, and the audience can't help but get infected by it! If you ever get a chance to see them: DO SO!

  • Wow

  • He is extraordinary !!!!

  • God! I'm so impressed!

  • Tull...are just Tull. Its always this time of year when the leaves are on the ground me and what to me is a magical time of year as we enter a festive season I feel the need to "dose" up on a bit of Tull.

  • No band in history was tighter than Tull. They are by far the most earthy and acessable prog band.I have always been amazed by the way they stop and go without screwing up.Ian is the best front man in rock music. Not because he is the best singer but the best showman and his great songwriting.Modern bands would do good to study Tull.

  • I'm a 14 years old and I love this song....I'm the only of my age? (Sono italiano!)

  • @LoreSennar Me and my friend are 15

  • such a unique sound, makes tull different from so manyohers. love the instruments.and tull too of course. the sounds are just uniquely intriguing.

  • Reminds me of my youth. Ian is great. And the Album is one of the best from Jethro Tull.

  • hrm I am a sesy latin girl

  • phucking amazing.

  • Bought this album from iTunes on the weekend for $7.99 AUD - 10 songs!!!! All the songs individually added up to over $20 worth - so went for the whole album, and glad that I did - beautiful, mesmerising and exciting. Haven't stopped listening to it.

  • FLUTE SOLO!!! xD

  • 76' You can listen to both. I feel sorry for people that can only listen to one style of music. Lose the box philistines...

  • well Tell me your fantasies

  • good band and a clever fusion of styles

  • my dad told me to check this out,its pretty good XD

  • fookin ace,if you cant feel it with your body then your cold

  • Ahh! Product placement! I get it now.

  • @msearthlight don't feel old im 21, i listen to "techno and computer stuff" as well but that is just something from our generation, however i am truly disappointed that such fanatastic music is no longer made by artists nowadays. generally dislike what is played on "popular" radio stations anyway :) gather have them play this.

  • Don't do all this techno computer stuff very often and listening to my children on utube playing all the modern rubbish oh sorry music makes me feel even older, just listened to this, sounds just as good live as it does on my cd, whilst dancing around the kitchen and peeling veg... you know what maybe i don't feel as old after all.. Fab sounds

  • Wow! best shot/ music/sound awsome!!!!

  • A singer of these ageless times, with kitchen prose and gutter rhymes. Love you, Ian.

  • Anyone Have A Cigarette ?

  • Superb!

  • Music made by ones who love music for those who loves music!

  • Such beautiful harmonies. I love Ian and the band so much.

  • This totally beats all those fucking bitches like lil fag and souldier boi

  • hiya I would advise You to sit back, relax and enjoy my company

  • Tull has always been famous for their live performances. I am not surprised at all at the brilliant performance here. Love Jethro Tull. Have Crest of a Knave Tattoo. =)

  • Sister 15

    Niece 3 1/2

    Both Love Jethro Tull !

  • was that a bottle of wine??? champion!

  • Costumo ouvir a noite toda, mesmo dormindo faz bem .Amo essa banda!

  • I don't usually like live versions, However, this is one of the exceptions.

  • In "Songs from the Wood" and "Heavy Horses", Ian Anderson went bucolic -- and I realized that the man is in fact the reincarnation of Q. Horatius Flaccus, elsewise known as Horace - able to write both biting satires and elegies to the agrarian life...

  • Imádom. Lénárd Vilmos az égben, biztos tudod, hogy ezt neked köszönhetem.

  • Thanks for posting

  • I like how Ian Anderson just turns himself on right before starting to sing

  • @trekkian88 he's already turned on some people alwasy are

  • This album was my first introduction to Early Music.... It's not rock so much as an intro to Early music.... And this song was specially attractive. The album fostered an interest in renaissance and early music that I still embrace today.

  • One of the greatest bands of the 70s and 80s

  • Lovely joyful happy lyrics.

  • He still wore tights then! Length of leg!

  • this man is a fucking legend singer floutist

  • Prog before prog before was cool.

  • rock out on that flute :)

  • I like Jethro he sing good

  • @melissacarterTS You mean Ian anderson, Jethro tull is merely the name of the band

  • @meowandmeow I was joking, but seriously I think Mr. tull is great

  • @meowandmeow no shit sherlock

  • Ian was fluting fantastically at High Voltage last weekend...

  • Being born in '73, I have one question. Why can't there be musicians with this level of passion and talent around today? Or at least why must they be such a minority? Music has never been about who sells the most records, it is all about expression, and conveying your thoughts and feelings to your audience. These guys remind what it is like to believe in magic again. Truly amazing.

  • @jaysonryder1973 There are some really good musicians out there you just have to look for them because the corporate machine promotes crap and lets the best languish.

  • @jaysonryder1973 There is, they are just hard to find or ignored by people who are not willing to expand there musical tastes

  • @jaysonryder1973 There are some greats today, they have the potential, but no encouragement. They are stuck in boring money-making ruts that dont encourage any sort of experimentation. Its really the collective fault of society, if shit like gaga and beiber didnt get millions of views maybe we would have some hope.

  • @jaysonryder73 The writing is so far ahead of most, that you can lose track in a hypnotized way. A true Minstrel in the Gallery! Ian was born in Scotland but soon was moved to England (school yrs.). After finishing near the top of all classes he went the musician/artist route in '68, turning out Tull's first albumn 3 months after Ian started training himself on flute wher his genious began to flourish.Writing talent alone should put him in the RHOF, but performance is 1st rate!

  • @weewilly49 Didnt achieve anything at school - He was kicked out of Blackpool grammar school for 'misdemeanours' (unspecified) and refusing corporal punishment

  • @jaysonryder1973 those people still exist, they have merely moved on to other genres

back in their time, these types of hypercreative musicians were always at the top of the wave when it came to musical advancement within genres

today, that top has long since moved on into other directions... such as electronic/acoustic hybrids, for example

and that's where you'll find those "true" musicians of today

you probably won't like this, but:

    watch?v=vkHWYNbtvNo

    ...he helpfully suggests?

  • my mother-in-law did the charleston

  • During this time, music was a passion.

  • The big boys of 20th century music! Of course next to Zappa.

  • see you on the 24th July 2011 at Victoria Park guys!

Bet you'll still be rocking as in 1977!

  • The lads in the band are right on me thinks, and Ian is such a hansdome devil!

  • this is MUSIC!! what a band, guys....

  • grrreat song

  • Glenn Glasscock RIP.

  • @margovallen Glenn died too? John certainly was a loss. (Though Dave Pegg was pretty amazing after him).

  • @MichaelAGardiner

Glenn CORNICK is very much alive and well, and living in California (although, I believe he's moving to Hawaii in the fall).

  • I´m a brazilian girl...Jethro Tull is my favorite music band. I love it!!!! Jethro in Brazil againnnn!!!!

  • I´m a brazilian girl...Jethro Tull is my favorite music band. I love it!!!!

  • Worth a wiki on his name make for very interesting reading.

  • Such talent!!! Great to relive this.

  • I saw this lovely girl one day and this song popped into my head and was so sweet. Doesn't get any better than that.

  • trent reznor would have ruined it by being an angsty little faggot

  • @AgoliantMystified Haha! Brilliant.

  • Man. Ian anderson, trent reznor, and Freddy Mercury. Who knows what they would have done to music had they ever worked together?

  • this is aboslute pomp. both in the composition and musical performace. hard to see todays in the world of non classical non jazz music.

  • Incredible! Truly original. A great composition. And on top of it all, what a showman.

  • Musical ecstasy.

  • Ian is a medieval GOD with a flute for a sword.

  • 5 Stars!!! Tight harmony, tight rhythm, extremely progressive, and a very interesting composition. Not to mention great showmanship. Hat's off!!

  • holy shit, what a performace!

  • Jethro Tull, The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2DVD available at Tommygunvideo please see our youtube channel for link/clips/more info

  • Talented, Unique, A True Master. IAN ANDERSON! We may never see his like again.

  • Tull isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Really?

  • The rock and Roll hall of fame does not define genius. The same way the Oscars do not define good movies. It's not all about the USA, there is another world out there you know.Good music is good music I don't have to be told by someone else I can work it out for myself!

  • DADA

  • I have always LOVED this mans voice. I thank him for sharing it.♥

  • Many greats come to mind, but still, it is hard to believe that any music ever written and performed is better than this. Mozart could not have done this. Not Wagner. List a great one and realize this piece is significant. Many are its equal in their own rights. Nothing better. Please tell me after you hear this all the way through what you believe and I will listen to your fave and enjoy it too.

  • a bit bombastic but pretty cool

  • INNNNCREDIBLE!!!! Just found this version! BEAUTFIUL!!

  • Feel right at home here saying " far out"........

  • the mad man of rock and roll

  • Quite honestly music has two categories: Jethro Tull and everything else that doesn't matter.

  • Ian is one of the best.....saw him often here....great music never die...go on!

  • tre new sky serbia

  • So, you take some 16th century English and Irish folk music, play the hell out of it, electrify it, syncopate the hell out of it, add a little fusion jazz to taste and produce a classical -rock masterpiece. Who would have thought?

  • @irrefudiate They thought,and they presented us,with great music.

  • Great

  • Saw this tour, too. What an incredible performance and this is a jewel of a video, with great (rare) quality audio to boot! This was the second tour of Tull's that I saw...1979 I think, with 1975's Warchild the first. My bro went to the Aqualung tour and Thick as a brick as well as the 1971 Passion Play tour. I bought the coat and the boots and took up guitar... Ian's the greatest rock songwriter of all time (next to John Lennon)...

  • Barriemore barlow...Legend even john Bonham called him greatest drummer

  • Barriemore barlow is one of the greatest drummers ever. Even John Bonham called him the greatest living drummer!

  • A Masterpiece!

  • Jethro tull are amaaaaazing!!! Huge influence on my music XDXD

  • hard rock, psycodelic, jazz, and flute odd combination but sounds awesome

  • hard coreTull----for real fans only .......

  • OMG... There will never be another band like Tull...

  • true showmen.

  • Everything got quite worse once john Glascock died, this was an amazing Tull lineup, because it wasn't just Ian composing the music, it was the whole lineup, not to mention amazing performances. All though Tull did still have some amazing albums afterwards, such as "Broadsword And The Beast" but you couldn't really call it "Tull" anymore, it was more like Ian, Martin, and other faceless members that changed time to time,

  • I have been a Jethro Tull fan ever since an older cousin turned me on to their Album Benefit. in 1970. Every now and then I love listening to "Minstrals In The Gallery" and " Songs From The Wood " while watching the movie "The Adventures of Robin Hood" starring the late actor Errol Flynn. Great ! music. These are real musicians who right great lyrics.. Check out "Crest of A Knave" 1987 "The Broadsword And The Beast" 1982

  • This bass player died of some heart condition shortly after this recording.Terrible.

  • Great!

  • Great!

  • Ian Anderson, the God of the flute!

  • he is THE god

  • Saw them in Cambridge several years ago(1995?) at venue named Corn Palace. They were absolutely brilliant! Had only seen them in large venues prior to that back in 1970's. I love Tull!

    Such geniuses!!

  • Saw them in Cambridge several years ago(1995?) at venue named Corn Palace. They were absolutely brilliant! Had only seen them in large venues prior to that back in 1970's. I love Tull!

  • It must have been so easy to record this band. You just hit the record button and make a cup of tea ... given they're so freakingly perfect live.

  • @ianasdfg If you could find a place big enough.

  • @ianasdfg I watched a section of a 1979 documentary I think, it was on Youtube, and he said he didn't sing a song until it was being recorded so it was "fresh" haha. Whatta guy.

  • John Bonham was great, really great. He said that Barriemore Barlow is the best british drummer ever. I agree with him, but I say that Barriemore Barlow is the best drummer ever...

  • Great!

  • My best concerts in the 70´s was the three I went to with JethroTull !

Ian Anderson jumping around on one leg playing the flute singing with his powerful amacing voice, and Martin Barre fantastic guitar work. those were the days. I still have my brown suéde boots with fringes.

  • Jethro Tull, The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2DVD set available at Tommygun Video - please see our youtube channel for link, clips, and more info

  • jethro tull are fantastic!!!

    i was in his consert

  • learn to spell Tull is awesome and always will be!!!!!!!

  • If this band does not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame then there should be no rock and roll hall of fame.

  • @dougrhon you got that right!!

  • @dougrhon I have to agree. I think it clearly means Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is completely meaningless. Full stop.

  • @dougrhon True indeed!

  • @dougrhon hall of lame.. i dont need anyone telling me whats good.. i already know

  • this isn't rock and roll, this is progressive rock,

  • @rteneycke Pfffft, pendatic much, Rock and Roll is an encompassing term in which the specific genres exist within.

  • @dougrhon You, sir, have an amazing IQ

  • They were so prog back in those days, I love it!

  • jethro tull is the only band that is so fantastic

  • Ah-ma-zing

  • Bull, I have written your letters correctly a bunch of times! Now I forgot what in the hell I posted! I agree with you Chloe, Ian knew what was coming, and also what lies ahead after all settles down in our world. And I agree that Jethro Tull is the best band on the planet, especially in our day of the 60's & 70's! Best music ever made, EVER!

  • Bull, I have written your letters correctly a bunch of times!

  • I love Jethro tull the best band in the world

  • The first Rock Album I ever listened to was Songs from the Wood.

  • @berndikowski OOOOH, listen to Benefit. One of the best albums, ever, ever, and did I say, ever?

  • A big part of Tulls shows Ian performs with a along with a recorded track as he does at the beginning of this song.

When I realized that it took away a lot of the magic.

  • Did these guys ever have a bad night? Every video I see is them at the top of their game. Unbelievable.

  • watch?v=22R9FOv_lRI
