  • i iz stuped

  • at 8:32 you cough

  • Excellent graphics from tomorrow

  • it's sweet of you to go to all the trouble of drawing those detailed pictures but seriously, this is one of the clumsiest primer explanations I've come across. Oh and soz to be a spelling nazi but have you noticed sometimes you spell Aaron "Arron". No true fan would make that mistake.

  • I understood the movie up until the duality in timestreams...

  • I'm only watching this because wikipedia is blacked out!

  • isnt abe 2 with aaron 1

  • i love how it's called, "primer movie explained," but it starts with you saying that you don't really know what they're building to begin with, even though that's one of the more explicitly stated plot points (a device that decreases the mass of a particular object). also, you sound like you just smoked a bong load before explaining this, which explains your inherent misinterpretations of the film as a whole. you're dumb.

  • @ScottKendall guess that's because it's not that important what they are trying to make, but more important what they end up making (timemachine)... idk, could be wrong...

  • you suck at explaining it

  • this film changed in real life, i saw it in the cinema, when i rented it lots was different. happened to a lot of movies during that same timeframe. ironically because of people doing timebent dumbass shit in real life.

  • I think you didn't get something quite right at about 6:35 you say that [if abe 2 and abe 1 interact] "it will change that abe coming out of the machine." I think this is essentially correct, but I thought the stated purpose was that abe 1 might not enter the machine at all, or might enter at a slightly different time which which then essentially leave that abe in the world, having 2 abes instead of the one

  • ahhh I have to write a paper on this stupid movie. dangit!

  • The thing I don't understand is, if the original Abe gets out at "Time B" and then new Abe is at "Time A", when new Abe gets out at "Time B" then surely there should be a new new Abe at "Time A" and therefore it would be never ending until the world is infested with the Abe species?!

  • @drummerbrazier1992 nope. there's only a small period of time where there's two abe's. check out the diagram on the wikipedia page.

  • ive watched all three of your videos and im still confused. like the bleeding from aaron's ear and the reason for why they can't seem to write normal. i'd like to think that Aaron is bleeding from his brain because his brain is having trouble storing all this new information in such a short period of time which in turn is causing both of them to lose some of their motor functions, like writing.

  • remember seeing this when it came out. didn't understand what the cock was going on throughout the whole thing !

  • i have just one question, may have been addressed in 2nd video, but what happens to original since you become the double, do they die or what?

  • It is to my understanding that recently scientist in Hong Kong have ruled out the possibility of time travel. Now, I know I am going to probably be receiving a lot of heat for this because of course, there are many theories that instead of answering questions they raise more which literary makes it impossible to come up with a solution thus creating an infinite loop of arguments.Anyone interested enough in physics and has average education understands that NOTHING can travel faster than light.

  • @Agownsrs2 at risk of sounding like a nerd... have you heard of quantum entanglement? basically you sync up two particles and create "paired particles" these are awesome cause what happens to one will happen to the other no matter how far apart they are. so if they were 8 billion light years away from one another, the information is INSTANTLY transferred over 8 billion light years. so what would take light 8 billion years to do, quantum entanglement can do instantly. In laymens terms of course

  • Comment removed

  • @Agownsrs2 Can you imagine what would happen if we sent one of the paired particles into a black hole?!?!?!?! UNIMAGINEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! infact.... you have inspired me to look into this further, I REALLY want to know, what would happen to one particle here, if we sent it's quantum entangled "twin" into a black hole??? ...Samtart...any ideas?....

  • they saw themselves going into the building

  • After watching this movie several times and reading explanations, I finally understood enough to realize that the time-travel aspect of the movie is a bit silly. However, the movie is really about discovery and friendship and I still love it!

  • ok ! This video is to explain the movie primer, they build a machine" i dont really know what it is" hahahahahahahahahahahahaha...dooosh bag!!! great start...how in the fuck can you explain the movie when you can even explain what they build first?? dont reply.

it will only be mono-toned and fucking backward,in coming forward.

  • Referring to the one-time use thing: I thought it was said near the end of the movie that Abe lied about the one-time use, and Aaron found out later that he lied which explains why he was able to keep trying to prevent the shotgun incident so many times. Or maybe it had something to do with there being an extra machine (the "failsafe"). Idk.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the other parts to your explanation yet.

  • Aaron*

  • 2:19 I believe you mean, "COLLECT PROFIT".

  • @MST3KLives No. They did research on what stocks they should buy during this time.

  • @samtart Just joking, dude, it's from an old South Park episode. Nice vid, thanks for the post.

  • Slide at 9:27....Wouldn't the Abe hanging out with Aaron in the hotel all day be Abe 2 instead of Abe 1? And wouldn't this make the Abe coming out of the box Tuesday morning Abe 3?

  • @mebaran exactly what i was gonna say

  • I just pulled my ears off.Thanx fuckface

  • @grandaddynative I appologise for the couging. I was so sick i didnt have the energy to reedit this. Sorry.

  • @grandaddynative good pull your fucking ears off you ugly fuck!

  • there is an interview with shane carruth where he indeed does call it primer. (rhyming with climber)

  • I didn't watch this whole thing. But I love the art work.

  • have u been inside the box? cuz ur writing is fucked up too hahhahahhaha

  • @kidpop23 nice

  • @kidpop23 loooooool

  • @kidpop23 I ROFLED

  • Nice graphics XD and explanation

  • It's primer, rhymes with dimmer, not primer, rhymes with climber. Primer is what you spray on metal before you paint it.

  • @hoyle1911 I don't think the people who made this movie cared that primer was something you use before painting. Those things are called synonyms. It's not the end of the world if you use one.

  • @hoyle1911

really? i'm pretty sure the director pronounces it primer, rhymes with climber.

  • @hoyle1911 HOW DOES THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE WORK?

  • Their machine oddly resembles my anti gravity prototype :O) i have a vid of it on youtube.

  • @Naddycat thats what they were trying to make at first! this movie is really accurate

  • Maybe the confusion might have something 2 do with the fact that explanation jumps back and forth between 1st and 3rdperson.Have U thought about explaining it from one constant 1stperson point of view from the perspective of each character as the character is actually experiencing it in real time? That way the intent of each character is revealed. It would start out, After trying to get in touch with Abe all day he walks up to me and says..Does this make sense 2 U?Or did I confuse myself again?

  • 1:40 Im confused again.

  • ..but I guess you just reset the numbering :)

  • Made sense to me until Tuesday (8:20). I think you need to introduce parallel time-lines at this point. That shouldn't be Abe1 on Tuesday because it's Abe2 who went home that night and woke up on Tuesday. Abe1 went to the box and continued his existence somewhere else.

  • damn, the film really ought to explain this stuff so it's clearer. good job on the video

  • Huh¿?

  • this sounds like a messed up flick must give it a go

  • it's something related to the stock market, that's the reason they built the machine ,they have 15 minutes ahead of every investor.

Wouldn't it be more wise to sell the machine to a corporation ?

  • After all the problems that have occured to them, They should have realised by now that the problems will only get bigger and bigger. So the best thing they should do next is to get as much past stock market and sports betting results and go back to the earliest time as possible and explain everthing to their earliest double to not use the time machine at all due to the danger of it, and then get the four of them extremely rich afer that! No need for them to go the separate way! problem solved.

  • @juujuubie But if they did that then how is it that the version of them that went back in time be able to go back in time..

Meaning if i time traveled to the past to stop myself from time traveling, then i wouldn't exist because i never time traveled in the first place. its a paradox. they cant fix what they started only alter it.

  • They were trying to develop antigravity technology, initially.

  • Why is this not called Primer Primer :P

  • I appreciate that you made this video, but my first question on the list that I have after watching the movie is. "what was the original purpose of the machine they build". So it was a bit dissapointing that you didnt even bother with that question....

  • @avalon3161 I don't think the actors actually stated the original purpose, only implied it. Its intent was to reduce the mass of any object. You saw it on the digital scale when they first tested the box...7.7 decagrams, which got reduced to 6.4 or something.

  • I just want to let you know that there seems to be a flaw in all 3 parts of your explanation.

    1. the "narrator" was talking at the beginning of the movie, as if in an answering machine, and for THAT time

    2. 19 minutes into the movie (roughly), the narrator explains that it would be months before they came to a realization

This means that aaron has stepped back in time by the near beginning of the movie...how is that possible? Remember the first "trip" he exits too early?

  • (continued) .. he exitted on the back parabola, remember 1300 times flip flopping? It's an extended time edge...and the only thing I could think of mathematically is that he swung TOO far back (months), giving himself the phone call, and the messages, and showing him how to build the machine for failsafe from the start.

I haven't read the book, but that's how it felt like to me from just watching the movie.

  • (continued 2) ... it also explains why Abe was "passed out" on the floor of his home and seemed to have been in a double-time, this was Aaron setting him up from that point. He also stated that it took him near 20 times to get Abe to get up enough courage to do something at the end of the movie. You can also see how much arrogance Aaron has from the beginning as if he "knows" what to expect (even from the moment he was pushing buttons on the box).

  • @sabriath your wording is hard to understand

  • @EDLTV : I'll simplify it. Watch the movie again, when you start to hear the "narrator" (Aaron) speaking into the answering machine, this is Aaron from the future speaking to current Aaron. This happens at the very beginning of the movie, so he has already time traveled.

How else can that be if he hasn't built the box yet? Remember Aaron's "first time" through the box he left too early and Abe said "I told you wait for the timer". That's the only explanation I can come up with.

  • @sabriath I think the narrator, which is Aaron from the future, is not talking to Aaron of the current point in the movie,

the audio of Aaron speaking on an answering machine, which is also the narrator, is speaking to the Aaron who is waking up from being unconscious in the attic. The voice over is just there to narrate the movie,

  • @EDLTV : I redact my original statement, and I have come up with a solution that fits the movie perfect (although I have added my own story to the mix in order to explain the events that occured you didn't see). If you wish to know, send me a PM and I'll send you my summary. I've sent one to samtart already.

  • @sabriath i'm samtart

    i'll look at your message

  • If you really want a detailed explanation go to the official book on Primer, The Primer Universe. I hope to film a sequel someday soon.

  • @BrianPrimer Peronally I don't want a sequel, I'd rather see Carruth utilize his obvious genius and ability to attack a concept in a way that hasn't been done before by movie makers on a completely different story, Primer's just one of those movies that's said all it needs to say in one film

  • @Marlowe3488 Agreed. This is Kubrick's successor if I've ever seen one. Kubrick had a habit of making amazing films but leaving everything unexplained, and he also never made sequels. I want Carruth to do the same thing. Use his superb abilities to expand across every possible genre (Horror, comedy, war films, etc), and give a profound effect on the audience. Road maps for the movie should only be fan speculation, such as 2001 analysis. Both directors are great, Carruth seems promising.

  • Wanted to watch this whole thing, but you should have written your own script of what you were going to say so it flowed a lot smoother, could not stand it.

  • @DarkKnight0011

well i did have sript, it could've been done better but i think it ok

  • @DarkKnight0011 I agree. COULD NOT STAND IT. Lots oh weird long pauses lots of ummmm's lots of ahhhh's and then some stuttering.

  • On Tuesday, isn't it Abe2 going with Aaron 1 through the whole day rather than Abe1 + Aaron1? Abe2 shows this all to Aaron 1, including showing Abe1 going to get back into the box alone, no?

  • you mean monday? and yes it would be the abe2 of the original abe

    ???my head just exploded

  • @samtart On monday, Abe 1 is in the hotel, making him the original Abe, thus, he cannot affect the experiences of himself (Abe 1) because he is in the hotel, correct?

  • @FullyArmedCitizen

not sure what you're saying here

  • @samtart How can they know what happened that day if they are in the box or in the hotel room all day? If they are at both of these places, "out of the way", how do they know which stocks to play?

  • @FullyArmedCitizen

they research stocks at the library in the same town as the hotel then go to the hotel room

    its in the movie

  • I'm pretty sure they were working on building an anti-gravity machine. Like a superconductor that works at room temperature. It worked but was out of balance when they ramped up the weight to lift. When Abe tweaked with the balancing he created a field which worked like a wormhole when switched off at the right moment.

  • @JasonJJasonJ Yeah, I figured it out. Thanks for the video.

  • thanks
