well, lets say that the engine is sucking as much air as it needs and produces power. If you use a turbocharger (turbo), it forces more air into the engine and causes the engine to produce more power because with more air it can mix more fuel. Imagine a turbo as a hair-dryer which its beeing spooled by the engines exaust gases!
