I learned to play country guitar from a book I bought at Wal-Mart of all places back in the mid 70's. It was called "Nashville Guitar" by Arlen Roth. I still have it 34 years later. The exciting thing back then was it had a thin tear our 33 1/3 RPM record that demonstrated the steel bends etc. That was before Hot Licks Cassettes and Videos. We had to learn by moving the needle back on the album to cipy a lick. Arlen has been a HUGE reason for my being able to earn a living as a guitar player.
I use it at the jams I go to and have never had a problem being heard over a drummer, bass and 3 to 5 other guitar players. In this clip the volume of the amp is probably on 2.
@wungabunga -not necessarily the 12th fret, but 12 frets away from what ever number fret you hit the note on. It takes sensitivity/practice, like everything else in guitar :oD
Does it sound better when its old or is it just to have? I hear people say the year of their guitar all the time..I would be more impressed with a 2008 telecaster but then again i dont know much xD
why o why is this man not playing with or fronting a sell out tour????and thanks arlen for your hot licks "hot country lead guitar" vid from the 80s, god bless ya

hey richeray, is the deluxe amp loud enough to be heard over a drummer? Let's say classic rock loud un-mic'ed.

@wagatabuchunga1
Looks like he's lightly hitting the harmonics with his palm - somewhere around the 12th fret. Try it!

Hairway to Steven! Are those the stock pickups?
Sounds great!
Jeffro321 2 years ago
Thanks. Both pickups are original to the guitar. The bridge pickup was rewound by Owen Duffy - OC Duff pickups. He did an awesome job.

I also thought it sounded like stairway to heaven, this guy is excellent, just discovered him. Check out Danny Gatton if ya don't know of him.

Nice, never seen that technique before where he mutes some of the lower notes and letting the higher ones ring, ima use that ;)

Like Arlen Roths style. Very similiar to Gerry Donahue"s with all that grit and string bending harmony.

Yes, house of the...
But it WAS too sweet for my taste.
Where are the blue notes. The dirtiness.
Arlens great. But still.
