  • Love watching this stuff. Thanx for posting it.

  • The origins are from the Boer war where the Royal Navy took guns overland to relieve the besieged garrison of Ladysmith.

  • Sorry but I think the origins of this event are from the Boer War.

  • I love the the Royal Navy Field Gun Competition i can watch over and over and never again and i never get fed up watching it

  • Shame they do not do this anymore all the tradition has gone now. A too PC Navy yes have the new technology but keep the old ways also its what the Navy is and was all about the rot started when they introduced Females on board ships. Thats nothing against females but could they do this? no so it had to go, equality they call it!

  • @WELLBRAN ...... Sorry mate it was the defence cuts that put paid to the Royal tournament...... not women at sea.

  • This is great! What a dam shame it is to be no more. How sad to see a great nation strip itself another of it's traditions and with it, its pride.

  • @memikell Actually they are doing this at earl's Court on 4 and 5 december - google military tournament

  • PORTSMOUTH

  • Excellent team-spirit and condition and condition drill.

    Thanks for sharing it.

  • Brilliant video, incredible stuff, such a shame this isn't run any more... I don't suppose you have any footage of the CQB hostage rescue they did once apparently, I think it was the SAS?

Cheers for the upload, glad I could finally see this =)

  • why are navy men trained to use land artillery?

  • @haienbleurgh Ever heard of the Marines?

  • @scampben who??

  • @johngarybooth The army

  • @johngarybooth Wrong!! The marines are a branch of the royal navy. the british army is a totally different thing.

  • @haienbleurgh It comes from dismantling naval guns by Navy gun crews who took them overland during the Pennisular War

  • Am I right in saying that this used to be most dangerous sport/competition in the world at one point?

  • A nice video marred only by the nauseating Scotch accent.

The sooner England is rid of the burden that is Sc*tland, the better

  • Wha's like us?

Damn few an they're a' deid

  • Superb teamwork and great show. Shame the government has pissed all our money into those Scottish banks - there'll be no cash for this sort of thing ever again.

  • Absolutely wonderful! We have New Labour to thank for getting rid of this.

  • All the old traditions are gone! No longer the RN i joined!. Penny pinching, mind you the wholesale scrapping of the fleet happened while i was in mostly under the other party before labour, thats why i hate em all.!

  • Look at the kid with the wide ears. Win or lose you can tell he's having a blast.

I only very recently found out about this (and the rest of the Royal Tournament.), makes me a bit sad I'll never get a chance to see this kind of grand show in person =/

  • the kid with wide ears is my older brother Chris, he was 24yrs old at the time, running for devonport who won the whole thing!! It was an awesome event and 1 that should still be held today..

  • Big ears or not his team won that race, won the series that year, and he won the field gunner of the year award too! He had a 'blast' the last time someone took the mickey out of his ears as well!!! Jb older brother.

  • Hey Martin lookin good shipmate !
