@kirkham1991 This kid is an idiot!!! OMG, he is not interested in the critique, he don't give a fuck for what the fro is saying. He just want him to choose the 10 photos. like you said: " I'd kill for you to critique my photos like this!" I can't belive in what I just watch.
good advice jared. I tend to always +3 my exposure compensation (i have d3s) For new photographers like sam, i would like to see him play with metering modes more, the shutter seems way too high for stills, maybe spot would be better for secluded angles. Also i think people need to adjust their own options inside their camera. I have 2 point sharpened my d3s, and find the vivid settings too contrasty. But i normally help adjust new photographers cameras, and get them to get aperture right first
Thats so funny, My uncle is a photographer in atlanta and i ask for tips and for him to look at some of my pictures and he will do the same thing as jared and be like you meant to do this "right", and i will get nervous and be like yeah, even though i had no clue what i was doing.
Did this kid just pick up and started taking pictures a month ago? Its doesn't even seem like he took a photog class, never picked up a photog book. Metering, iso and exposure he had no clue. You spend a half hour with this dude. LMAO
@ricksbrand i personally find single spot metering for everything close up. For an example, a portrait. Id spot meter for the brighest spot on the face so when i take the shot, that part wont be blown out. The balanced metering is good for medium length shots and full matrix for landscapes. But! If i want to do a sunset shot id use a weighted. If you want more tips id be glad to help you. Just look for me on fb by my email: monkeyfied@yahoo
@ansonlammie Thank you, I added you as a friend....I just feel dumb asking the question but I wasn't sure if the whole spot, center-weighted, ect. is what is meant when people say what were you metering for. I tend to make things tougher than they really are at times.
Hey Jared, how hard was it for you to get into Antonelli? I've been trying to get in and my grades and attendance aren't terrible, but their not so great. If my attendance goes up, think I could have a chance?
thanks a lot Jared! this is helping me a lot as I try and pull together a portfolio for my film school application. got my red toque today! I'm rocking the fro pick at work :)
@ansonlammie Okay I don't mean to sound dumb but please explain more. When you say spot meter you are saying change the camera setting to spot meter vs. say center-weighted? Okay lets say I do that now what? When I look thru the viewfinder am I looking for the red box that appears when pushing shutter half way down to be on the object I want to expose for? Then reading my exposure indicator to make adjustments as needed?
Jarod, when you say meter for this or meter for that in a photo....what exactly are you doing in camera to meter for the image? I shoot with a Nikon D7000 if that helps to explain what you would do. Thanks for any help!
Hey Jared I have a d5100 and I like to know how 2 set it in raw file cause I see 3 different types of raw files in my camera and another one that is raw and jpg I'm waiting on a part 2 of ur video for the d5100 and if u like I'll be more then happy to send u mines to make the video keep up the great work MASTER fRO JARED
04:55 Yes, the 35 1,8 is not that good as you should spect blowing the background... its bokeh is not really good at all... (as, on the other hand, its sharpness and contrast are really good [and they are more if you consider that small price!!]).
Don't fill your head with what photography "should be". Take the basics of it, and go out and find your own style. Jared is telling you what HE thinks is right, you need to find out whats right for you. If your so focused on taking a picture the way he tells you too, your missing out on your own vision.
@1mill2 I mentioned that in this video "if you feel that that picture should be there than def include it". I am in no way saying just do it my way and am constantly telling people to make their own decisions on what they like or do not like because this is an art form.
@JaredPolin Hey Jared, this was nothing against you, your videos are great and you take the time to help so many people. I was speaking in general, I just feel that some people get so caught up in technique, do this do that, that they loose their own style.
Obviously don't get stuck on opinions, but there is something to be said for learning from a pro and trying it their way before venturing out on your own. Learning what photography "should be" and how to do it well before breaking the rules is a must. It's the difference between an artist and a fauxtog. Don't let critique rule you but don't let naivety rule you either, it's a balance. The moment a living thing stops growing it begins dying, so don't let it stop you from learning from the pros :)
9:52 I *really* like this bridge photo. The rivets create a very exciting pattern. 10:14 is also a very pleasing image. Look at the repeating shapes of the steel frames.
@kirkham1991 I reckon he does, but sometimes it's hard to present that fucks have been given. Especially if it has been a long day. (Depends on whether or not he's telling the truth!) :L
the reason they ask for 10 images is to see if your paying attention and that you can follow guidelines and briefs. You should also have a wider range of different images from environmental, portrait, still life, macro to show you range not just 10 images taken from the same event. looks poor with little effort.
Jared, this one on one Sam is better than the random critiques. Gets you more in depth with your readers. Do more of these. It's like when a teacher helps a student one on one opposed to teaching the whole class and that's it.
Any one of the five elements above will move your photographs a step away from “That’s nice.” The more of the elements you use in one image, the closer you are to getting a “Wow! That’s beautiful!” Use all five and you will be able to create a masterpiece........ By Nancy Hill
@LpFr3aK Hello, the Froto walk was on Saturday I def need some time to put everything together. Also just to let you know now theres not going to be a ton of video content from the walk as I don't have a video crew with me. Its prob going to be a pretty small wrap video.
Cool video. I like the whole story telling approach. I'm not a photographer but will definitely use that info when I take pictures for fun in the future.
Thanks for the pop up link to part 1. A major flaw in Youtube lies in locating sequential videos such as these. I could not have located part 1 nearly as easily w/o that link inclusion! You're giving him great advise! Looking forward to Part 3.
