  • clueless idiots no african country is going to war on your behalf and the sooner you get that into your heads the better for you ..

  • You guys are making a mockery of all that every PanAfricanist stood for, including Fela. You are localizing, thus minimizing, a huge problem -- the survival and consciousness of the ENTIRE African race. It is obvious that you are proud of your Yoruban heritage, but you are, or should realize that you are, MUCH more. As I said before and will never say again, open your eyes, the world is a very big place with many things transpiring negatively affecting the entire African CONTINENT and PEOPLE.

  • @amkua2520 who is a "yoruban" at least if you want to start insulting our cultures you could at least take the time to get the spelling right otherwise its juST LAZY politicking on behalf a bunch of random AFRO CENTRIC.. thanks BUT NO THANKS you do not speak for us .

  • PERFORMANCES AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE.. its like chalk and cheese and that is why i will not hate on this production , it ENCOURAGES CURIOSITY AND EXPLORATION .. those who DENY THE ORIGINAL ARE FOOLING THEMSELVES.. and quite frankly it goes to show that to them, its all about a bunch of "fine bruthas with no shirt on " rather than what FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI stood for . by the way HIS MOTHER WAS A NIGERIAN ACTIVIST and had nothing to do with america .. go figure

  • and those who want to know about the real fela and to know and get to know who he was need to watch the ginger baker documentary not just drool over some man in a shirt with locks ! that has NOTHING TO DO WITH FELA THE MAN . what utter nonsense.. foolishness ... go and watch the documentary GET TO KNOW THE REAL FELA SEE HIM SPEAK FOR HIMSELF .. its not a bunch of americans dancing energetically around its african movement M.O.P.. ITS A LOT MORE THAN MASS ENTERTAINMENT go and watch the ORIGINAL

  • had nigerians in it and i understand it was a completely different vibe.. when americans tell our stories they basically tell those stories from a non african angle the way a nigerian might put on a show about an american black hero but do it with an african slant ..its the same thing .

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica

First of All, those Black Americans are predominately of African decent. Hence the name African-Americans. You sound as if Black American's ancestors do not come from Africa!. Now, I would agree there should have been Nigerians in the show and the point that they did not do that is an insult to FELA! and Nigerians. However, FELA! spoke on the oppression of not just Africans on the continent but it relates to African Americans b/c we all feel the HEAT!

  • @everagej am one of the nigerians who is even ready to be accomodating about the lack of distinct yoruba culture in the production because i believe it will lead those who have never heard of fela to look for original recordings and some might be willing to look at the culture he came from to open their eyes further .. i do know many nigerians who were very DISMISSIVE of this production because it didnt reflect fela or our culture, but the LONDON PRODUCTION was not like that it had a

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica

Furthermore, many African-Americans have not totally lost an African-centered point of view. There is a distinctive African-American culture that is not totally White American and it is not totally African. Many of us are fully acculturated and many of us are not! I am not fully acculturated and, therefore, would never support a show that disrespects the memory of FELA by excluding his culture and nation! Major disrespect. Let's be careful about mass stereotyping.

  • this is a great show but it is not a nigerian production and because no yoruba are involved in it the FEEL isnt going to be nigerian .. that is an observation one that these people cant understand because they will tell his tale from their point of view and only from their persepective because that is the ONLY PERSPECTIVE THEY KNOW or care about .. its not their fault this is four hundred yrs of detachment from their origins . however we do know the difference here the london production

  • enjoy the show but dont dare tell us who we are ..

  • ways to be african thats horseshit.. and for your information FELA WAS A YORUBA MAN TO THE CORE.. that is how he is remembered by NIGERIANS if you dont like it too bad. its never going to change.

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica

Once again a stunted viewpoint. Please open your eyes and mind!!!!!! Fela did, why not you?

  • @amkua2520 you people are RUDE and ignorant shut up "petty tribalism" ? spoken like someone who has no IDENTITY TO SPEAK OFF .. your white name, no language and no culture self is in no position to tell me who i am . so naff off and go and find a whiteman to cry to about "petty tribalism" you people take the cake .

  • this has nothing to do with the other fifty three countries and it has nothing to do with other cultures within nigeria incase you dont know there are more than one culture in nigeria and we speak more than one language out there so please.. locks are your culture but not ours okay ? its insulting when we read this type of stuff crap no whiteman would dare put out yet blacks put it out because they feel they have some sort of mythical "right" to do it.. dont tell us that there are many

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica : Open your mind/vision to the entire Continent of Africa and you will discover that "petty tribialism" is a sad stereotype.. Since you saw the "definitive" movie about Fela, you surely realize that he resided in Europe and the United States. He freely and often admitted that he was greatly influced by these years. I have no need for Ginger Baker or any paterialistic vampire informing me what is “definitive” of any African’s, much less Fela’s, essence.

  • The best production I have EVER seen. The lead was amazing as he looked nothing like Fela, but BECAME Fela as he reached the stage. That shirt on the superfine drummer/dancer with the locks (yeah, I'm a woman) needs to go!

Fela's is a story that has been begging to be told. Yet, the "I'm more African than yous" have lowered the discourse to the gutter.. There are as many ways of being African as there are Africans. Also please remember Africa is a huge continent and not simply Nigeria..

  • @amkua2520 listen you are not a nigerian OBVIOUSly AND YOU ARE NOT YORUBA so dont talk about what you have no clue about here. personally i dont see anything wrong with the production but what people are LEGITMATELY complaining about is that it doesnt really show our culture .. so why do you have a problem with this ? . you expect us to suppress who we are as a people to fit into what you think we should be ? if a white person said that you would have called them RACIST.. wouldnt you ?

  • @amkua2520 by the way fela was out there for YRS so "begging to be told" by whom exactly ? as far back as 1973 GINGER BAKER did a definitve documentary long before jay z took up this particular project, just because some americans get into the picture doesnt mean fela was not already LEGEND .. so thanks but no thanks we dont need a west end show to tell us who he is .. enough of that type of rubbish patronage ..

  • love it the best song ever love the choreography because i taught and dance

  • there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PRODUCTION but it has nothing to do with YORUBA CULTURE and those who legitmately MADE THAT POINT are being attacked by those who dont have a damn clue .. period.

  • CLASS DISMISSED.

  • THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY NIGERIANS BORN ABROAD . so shut up and get a life here.. "dumb teacher teaching NONSENSE" .

  • you even REMOVED YOUR ORIGINAL COMMENT .. LOL thats the joke, it was a particularly STUPID ONE.. you attacked someone expressing an opinion about the way our culture was being represented here.. you know it was a dumb comment .. obviously it betrayed YOUR ORIGINS.. which are NOT NIGERIAN let alone familar with any type of african culture .. so BE QUIET. again, i hate those so called "akatafied" nigerians who have no CLUE as to where they come from ,, "i was born in blah blah blah" SO? .

  • LOOK UP THE REAL THING.. and see the sheer power of his performance.. check out GINGER BAKER'S DOCUMENTARY OF FELA .. the most DEFINATIVE PORTAYAL ever.. no music even comes close TO THE REAL THING.

  • so to me, its about bringing fela to an audience that have no idea about just how complex and deep our cultures are.. those raised on a diet of "kunta kinte" and HOLLYWOODS view of africa as a COUNTRY .. it doesnt matter that it doesnt really show yoruba culture and it doesnt matter that it spends a lot of time dueling on the BRIEF american sourjourn of his life rather than his life in nigeria , that doesnt matter, because what you get is a TASTE of the real thing , then what you do is GO AND

  • water..... indeedy no enemy..... FELA.... haaaaaa...! *SALUTATIONS*

  • watched the broadway show today... AMAZING!

  • this has completely put me off going to see a musical that i was looking forward to seeing. I hadn't realised how karaoke it was going to sound.

    yuk!!

  • @looeee you really have no taste...Your loss

  • @divanne77 look you have to understand for us, it is OUR CULTURE, not a characture .. so some will be offended by the representation of it here, i am not offended because i understand that it is going to expose others to who fela was and who he represents to us in nigeria and to those who admired him and what he stood for all those yrs ago, at a time when americans had no idea of the struggle for african independence and didnt even register OUR EXISTENCE , they barely do it now , let alone then.

  • Comment removed

  • @divanne77 shut up , if you spoke like someone who is lost then you will be given the lost treatement, dont come back with the "oh i am a nigerian " when you said something STUPID . i dont have the time for it and besides there are plenty akata who pick up certain phrases and think they can run with it .. now dont bother me anyone who DISRESPECTS OUR CULTURES no matter where they come from i give short shrift to .. irrelevant.

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica Ps your assumptions, aggression and ignorance is bewildering

  • @divanne77 shut up you get what you pay for and you got that in spades.. fool .. as for chips well out here we eat them with FISH. so go and empty that TANK . as for "assumptions" you made enough but REMOVED THEM .. OBVIOUSLY why cant you stand by your stupid nonsense..? LOL because IT DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE..

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica Get that chip off your shoulder. It's HUGE

  • @looeee you have to understand this is a musical. The music and lyrics need to be hear more clearly for the audience to help them understand the story.

  • Love her voice!!!

  • They have diluted the ORIGINALITY of the fela beat

  • @bukkieboy0001 Its ok, as long as the world has the opportunity to learn from FELA and his message...

  • @ognsk1 exactly!
