  • in this version Raoul can go into Christine's dressing room without knocking because he's a puppy. Puppies can get away with anything because they're cute

  • I laughed so hard at the part in the dressing room when The Phantom said "BREATHE!" and the way she breathes and sings her body moves so weirdly...I screamed at her "Your posture is all wrong! Use your diaphragm!"

  • Have you ever watched ANY Wishbone episodes besides this?

Every episode is structured with Wishbone and his family and friends to get the juxtaposition between that and the novels that are mentioned, it's the whole point of the show so stop knocking it.

  • A rubber ball that all he'll ask of you.. (:

  • I loved the all I ask of you parody you did

  • your "puppies" clip reminds me of the nostalgia chick . btw awesome reviews!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, I don't want to nitpick, but did he say that it was published in 1911? I swear it was 1910...

  • She craked like a frog in the Kent Hill version.

  • Philippe looks like the brother of snoop dog!

  • "Well, this one's called 'Pantin' at the Opera', which actually sounds like it would have been a great title for a Phantom porn film, but, anyway..."

    "CHRISTINE! IT'S A FREAKING DOG!"

"Oh yes, our Stephanie Meyer collection is outside... In the dumpster!"

... I do believe that you've now become my favorite YouTuber. XD Haha, loved the "All I Ask of You" parody... WHERE do you get such a freaking comedic mind?? And where can I get one?

  • Haha! The main voice saying, "Christine! It's a freaking DOG!" sounds JUST like Margaret Hamilton.

  • Yeah, they did that in every episode. I'd always say 'I don't care about the present story! back to the book please!'

And they also did the whole Wishbone-as-the-romantic-lead thing more than once too. Yet in no episode I've ever seen do they ever address it. Eh, it's just part of the show's charm I s'pose :P . The funniest - to me - was Pride & Prejudice. How can you not love puppy Mr. Darcy?

  • This makes me such a happy fangirl. Very funny, valid criticisims, and holy crap the nostalgia..... :P *subscribes*

  • You do realize that in the story tense, Wishbone is, for all intents and purposes, that character. Also, Wanda is the next door neighbor, she is not Oakdale's SWAT team, at least, I don't think she is.

  • Oh my goodness I nearly died when the 'all i ask of you' dog song came on :)

  • PUPPIES!!

  • This is the only film where I like Raoul. Oh, how a cute dog can change my mind about a character.

  • @jazzandmint lol i only like raoul in this version hes so cute!

  • Perhaps Wishbone is in his own version of Quantum Leap, where we see him but others see the person he is inhabiting? Just thinking aloud here.

  • Back when I was little, I use to kinda like this show. Now that I look back at it, this show does seem rather silly. Oh, the nostalgia :P

  • lmao 'He's a dog wid a rose in his mouth!' Love that line...

  • STEPHANIE MYER'S SECTION IS IN THE DUMPSTER!!!! LOL

  • Even though this version is kind of stupid, you have to admit that wishbone looks adorable in a suit! ^.^

  • OMFG WISHBONE WAS MY F**KING DAWG! :D I miss you Wishbone...

  • Ah how lovely it is to hear you indulge in some well needed Twilight bashing :)

  • Just for the record, that woman, Wanda, isn't part of a paramilitary unit; she's Wishbone's batty next-door neighbor.

Anyway, the song was pure comedy gold, sir!

  • From 8:00 to 8:35...lol.

  • From 8:00 to 8:35...lol.

  • From 8:00 to 8:35, lol.

  • You know this could kind of be a metaphor for how much of a bitch Raoul can be, except Wishbone's a male dog.

  • @SkylaWestman I kind of want to name a dog Raoul now.

  • ive read the original novel its one of my favorite stories :) im also going to be singing a song from the musical as either a solo or a duet for a school concert.

  • This is brilliant. I remember watching this episode when I was a kid! You raise several interesting points. Especially loved your adapted lyrics to 'All I Ask of You.' I haven't laughed so hard in ages.... *applauds*

  • Implied bestiality?

  • With PUPPIES!

Where did you find this?? I've been looking FOREVER for this episode!! I loved Wishbone when I was little. XD

    My Comments:

-Phantom with white gloves? That's unheard of.

-CHRISTINE! WHY DID YOU SAVE HER FROM THE SAND BAG OF DOOM?! And why do you wiggle like that when you sing?

    -4:23 OMFG, SMOKE! RUN AWAY!

    -7:48-8:34 :D

    Fave Quote:

    "He FOUND the FUSE BOX!"

  • You were right that this is probably one of the most faithful versions. A half hour childrens show with a literal dog as Raoul sticks more closely to the story than just about every movie version but maybe 2. How hard is it to stick with

    1. Erik born deformed

    2. Raoul being a good guy and childhood sweetheart

    3. Erik's redemptive ending

Why are these simple things so hard to stick to?

  • @sopapilla19 You also forgot that Christine cares for both men, not just either Erik or Raoul. :)

  • I watched this all the time as a kid. If I remember correctly this was one of my favourite episodes... only now do I realize the reality of its HORROR.

  • Lol. I think the casting of a an african american as phillipe was probably just because they often used the same actors in different stories and that guy is a good actor...he was also in treasure island.

  • "Our Stephenie Meyer section is outside. In the dumpster."

    :D

  • where did you get a copy of the episode???? I been looking for this episode for months!

  • OMG thank you. I've always wanted you to review this. This was a childhood fav:D!!!!

  • thank you for an excellent twillight mockery, ZING !

  • I loved 7:48-8:34!! I was laughing so hard at that :)

  • Why do Christine & Carlotta look like 15-year-olds? :S

  • where is part 2???

  • i don't normally care for Youtube reviews, but that was INSANELY funny. I love 4:30

  • I used to love Wishbone! And you know what, this show is one of the reasons i love to read!

  • I'm right behind you!

  • The phantom reviewers triumphant return! we missed ya.

I watched Wishbone as a kid..ahh the fond memories...

  • OMG, it cam out 2 days ago!!!!!

  • of course he plays the fop... were they trying to get people to like his character more by doing this? Cool review though!!! YEAH!!!!

  • Probably not. The major Raoul hating didn't really stat until after the movie was released. LIke, people DISLIKED Raoul, but the whole fop thing and 'omg i hate raul lets kill him then eric and cristine can get togetha!!!' was pretty much because of PAtrick Wilson's most unfortunate wig in the movie and the fact Gerard Butler was hot Phantom...however THAT works.

  • Phantom reviewer, you are awesome and Christine, you have a very nice voice, you sound like Emmy Rossum, and I mean that in a good way ;)

  • You're back! So, where's part two? XD

  • I'm so glad your back. I missed your videos. I always enjoyed having a good laugh at THEIR expence.

  • And where the hell is 0:31 from? =/

  • Dr Phibes, and Song at Midnight. Depending which one your looking at!

  • Yay! We've missed you. =( Ugh..all the beastiality nods are making me feel ill. To quote PR: "Christine, he's a freaking DOG!" And I loved the porn & Twilight comments XD

  • Oh...my...gosh I don't think I've laughed that hard in such a long time. I just found your videos the other night and I spent a good few hours going through the older versions you reviewed. May I just say, YOU'RE A FREAKING GENIUS! I grew up listening to the ALW musical and became obsessed with the story. I also have to say that Wishbone was one of my favorite tv shows as a kid and the Phantom episode was one I always HAD to see so thank you so so much for reviewing it! :D

  • Nevermind, I DID see Larry Wayne Morbitt as Piangi!! His voice is great.

  • So glad that you got around to reviewing this. Anxiously awaiting part 2!

  • Oh my gosh! I've missed you so much!

This was one of my fav episodes of Wishbone. I do like that they try to stick to the story fairly well. And I love Wishbone as Raoul. You're right, he's just so cute!!!! The Twilight crack was brilliant! ^_^

Can't wait to see the rest. I'm excited to have you back!

  • You're BACK! Thank goodness!!! phangirl SQUEE.

LOL porn title, Stephanie Meyer Dumpster section.

Wishbone is the only Raoul that'd break your heart. Look at him! Too cute. But I remember watching it as a young girl and thinking this Christine was so annoying. They should have gotten "Sam", the blonde, to play her.

2:55 -- Piangi's voice: I didn't know that. Was he on Broadway? I'm interested to know because I too am a nerd.

    At 6:03, She's convulsing...

    Can't wait for more!

  • I think he was in POTO in Vegas, someone will probably correct me on that...

  • 2:45 i am interested because I am a total nerd.

  • I've never seen Wishbone, so I had no idea they did a POTO episode! Seems blah, so far, I also wish they'd just concentrate on the book parts instead of their "Phantom of the Public Library" subplot!

Loved the song though! And the Twilight comment! :)

  • Thank you for reviewing this. I enjoyed it as a kid, and I like your comments about the dog.

  • "...but he's a dog with a rose in his mouth!"

    so cute!

good job, PR! i remember seeing this on tv when i was younger, and thinking just what you do - the Phantom stuff is okay and semi cute in its way, and the modern day stuff sucks ass!

  • "Ah shes practicing, that's good!"

"She's even got a music teacher, that's so nice!"

    "he's in love with her, that's just....TERRIBLE!"

    xD Silly Wishbone!

  • WOOT!!!! NO MORE TWILIGHT!!!!!

  • "And if you're looking for the Twilight novels, our Stephanie Meyer section is outside..in the dumpster."

    LOL!!!!

  • I used to love this show when I was younger, but I never saw this episode. It looks good though (except for the present-day parts) and I love the inclusion of Carlotta's croaking. Can't wait for the next part of the review! I wanna see more Raoul as a dog!

  • WAIT A SECOND!

    1870s? 1880s, Wishbone. 1880s.

  • I am a phantom geek thank you very much LOL and I have to say agree that twilight belongs in the dumpster and am so happy you agree ^_^ also wishbone kinda sucked a lot. I was a kid at the time and it didn't get me to read it got me to turn the chanel LOL. but this actualy looks interesting... at lest the phantomy parts.

  • I guess I just always understood that the dog was supposed to be subbing in for a human...it never really bothered me when I watched Wishbone. I always thought it was cute how the dog was so well trained as to try and act out human gestures. :)

  • Yay!! Your back!! YOu have been greatly missed. :D

    and another awesome review. :D

  • "If you're looking for the Twilight novels, our Stephanie Meyer section is outside - in the dumpster."

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Classic, man! Good to have you back!

  • "He's in love with her! That's... terrible!"

  • Oh, and Wanda (the one dressed in the SWAT gear) is a really loopy character. It's supposed to be a comical device that she is overreacting so much because she's always over-the-top. God, I'm a nerd. But Wishbone was a childhood favorite!

  • I have seen pretty much every episode of Wishbone, so I guess I'm used to the whole suspension of disbelief... Yeah, he's a dog, but you get used to it. He even played Anansi the spider in one episode... but he's a dog. Personally, I think Mo Rocca (that's how he got his start) did a pretty genius job coherently cramming the plots of literary classics into 10-15 minutes AND creating a relateable subplot for kids... but I know I am biased.

  • @lamllemaussade You're not alone. It's one of the reasons I got interested in classics in the first place. Do you remember Joan of Arc and The Tale of Two Cities?

  • @stichgrl777 Of course! I have seen them all... As a help to any other Wishbone fans out there, there is a website called The Wishbone Project, the goal of which is to collect and host as many episodes as possible for download! (Of course, I have already downloaded all of them haha.) The ones that can't be tracked down are ones I have honestly never seen aired. (Henvry IV? The Courtship of Miles Standish?) I was hesitant to share this info because I don't want it to be shut down!

  • I can barely remember Henry IV, and I don't remember the Courtship at all! For some reason, seeing this Carlotta made me think of Joan of Arc, and I always remember R Van Winkle...Lol. I hope you're site will be fine. If anything, you can remove the comment. ;)

  • I loved Wishbone as a kid! And I used to have the Doggy Raoul plush. I REALLY hate myself for getting rid of that.

Even as a kid, I found the present day subplots very boring. But I was never aware of how much of a groan fest they were till now.

    loved the Twilight bash!

  • YAAAAYYYY!!!!! I'm so glad you did this!!! This was actually the second Phantom version I ever saw on TV. And I like Wishbone, no matter how crappy the "present day" scenes are.

And Wishbone always played a part in the story. Usually the main male character For instance, in the Romeo and Juliet episode, he was Romeo...yeah, I know it's kinda wierd.

    I still love Wishbone. <3

  • You know, as a child, I loved this show (and this particular episode), but looking back...he's a freaking dog. And he often plays romantic scenes. With human actors. What were they SMOKING when they came up with this concept?

Ah, well, keep up the good work! I look forward to more!

  • I am a POTO geek as well and this review just cracks me up. I also HATE Twilight! Love your reviews and I never get tired of them. Love the song!

  • @5:46 I can't believe you just made that joke. I think I lost some respect for you.

But, hey, I guess someone has to review all these wacked out versions of the story and save me the trouble of reading/watching them lest I go insane since my favorite character always gets shafted. So I'll forgive you just this once. ^_^

(I still can't believe...I don't care if he is a dog, Wishbone actually tries to make Raoul look good and he STILL gets racked on. Good heaven help me...~.~)

  • Excuse me, you need to also take care of the Phantom of the Auditorium episode of Goosebumps AND the The Last Waltz or whatever episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Both are Phantom insipired, too!

  • He already did!

  • I already did, check out the 3 part review called Phantom Spinoffs.

  • What's the Phantom movie/episode where he punches the mirror? :o

  • Well, in the 2004 musical movie, he breaks the mirrors at the end. Not sure if that's what you're talking about though, since he doesn't punch it, he shatters it with a goblet.

  • Thats from Phantom of the Mall, which I have reviewed , check my playlist for the full list

  • @PhantomReviews You mean the Schumacher version's not the only version where the Phantom breaks a mirror? I thought that was just Schumacher being dumb...

  • Wonderful video, my day was absolute shit and this cheered me right up! Love the Twilight bashing.

And also... Yeah. What the fuck? I mean... He's a dog. I mean... Um... Ew.

  • the stephen meyers joke was pretty good:)

  • one has to remember the kids shows of the 90's were all about subliminal racism and sexual subtext, can't wait for the next review

  • About Philippe's Race: On Wishbone, it was a tradition to completely and totally ignore race for casting in the classic novels, while making sure, of course, that multiple ethnicities were represented... this led to strange situations in many Wishbone productions, especially where heredity was concerned... a dog, married to a white woman, produced three children -- one asian, one white, one black. Realism wasn't the goal!

  • @Bealocwealm Kinda like that Cinderella Musical with Brandi and Whitney Houston and the Asian prince whose parents were Whoopi and Victor Garber

  • @Bealocwealm What episode :O

  • @Boblett285 The Imaginary Invalid (though I don't remember quite what it was called on Wishbone)

  • Huzzah! I'm so glad you're back! I've been looking forward to this review.

I loved Wishbone so much when I was a kid, and now it looks...well...less than wonderful. But still: PUPPIES!!

  • is the phantom...Tim curry?and wish bone Jim carrey? It kinda sounds like them

  • Tim Curry's the man. x}

    I wuv TIMMEH.

  • I LOVE WISHBONE! omg my childhood!

God its been years since I've seen this episode. I swear, Wishbone was more helpful with the classics then the majority of my high school english education.

  • YAY!! Wishbone!! Oh my goodness... this brings back memories! Wishbone was what first introduced me to POTO ^^

  • 'And if you're looking for the Twilight novels, our Stephanie Meyer section is outside, in the dumpster.'

Nah, they moved it to the bullshit section; be sure to check out our Phantom of Manhattan display on your way there.

  • dogs before Prince!

  • @BerriesBaby

    Mine too!

  • Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for doing this review!!!! Seeing this episode of Wishbone is what got me into Phantom of the opera!!!! I can't find this episode anywhere, and now I can at least see some clips that I haven't seen in about 10 years. Thank you.

  • That segue into Phantom of the Opera just had me going o-0

    Anywhoodle... PUPPY! 8D

  • I work in a library... telling people the Stephanie Meyer section is outside in the dumpster is so tempting! I'm going to be giggling every time someone asks now!

    Great review... diabolically clever! XD

  • oh gosh this is hilarious! Im so happy ur reviewing again. Raoul as a dog is hilarious. keep em comin.

  • Haha!! Love it!! (the Twilight part was really funny too!) I even noticed a picture of the real a Chistine on the wall!

  • DOGGY!!!! :D

  • "If you are looking for Twilight by Stephanie Meyer, that section is outside in the dumpster." I LOVE you Phantomreviewer!

  • YAY!!! Been waiting for you to review this one. Awesome!

  • Omg mate where did you track this down? My first Phantom expirience!!

  • I never knew Wishbone did Phantom of the Opera! I used to watch it all the time when I was little.

I love your humor! I never can go through a PhantomReviewer before laughing or smiling by the end of it :)

  • *Gasp!* Another Phantom review! YAY! I couldnt find this episode on the web, so im glad you're reviewing it!

  • Oh, glorious! :} <3 You are back and at your very best! I miss doing all of our awesome songs XD

Haha, you know, I don't remember Wishbone's voice being so annoying XD Funny how easily you miss that stuff as a kid XD

  • OMG! I remember loving Wishbone when I was a kid! That's one of the major shows that turned me into such a bookworm!

Haha! I forgot how awesome Wanda was.

The Stephanie Meyer joke just made my day.

  • YAY!!! BISKUTZ THEME IS BACK!!!!

  • LMAO!!!!!

    Meyer in the dumpster!

    Christine's a petafile LOL

I think Joe grew up to be Angel from Buffy.

    I'll check.

  • Nope I was wrong lol & now I'm replying to myself.

  • xD I love the "Christine, it's a freaking DOG!" bit... Reminds me of "Dario, it's your DAUGHTER!"

  • Phantom Reviewer!!!! What a perfect way to start a Friday. I used to watch this when I was like 10. I had seen the show for the first time and whenever Wishbone played, I'd PRAY it'd be the phantom one.

Usually it was Robin Hood. Oh well.

  • "... the Stephanie Meyers section is outside. In the dumpster." :) The best thing EVER!

  • oh God I remember this episode... strange that at the time Raoul being a dog did not bother me.... even stranger- it still doesn't bother me.... freakin' Raoul....

  • Hahah! "Our Stephanie Meyer section is outside...in the dumpster."
