  • I never saw this one but I saw the sing-alongs as a kid. GOD I loved those, this is good, but I love those better, plus in my opinion, it had better voices for Professor Owl and Birdy Birdbrain (never knew that was his name).

  • This was orignally in 3-D

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I used to sing the intro to my youngest daughter, Melody. It is how I taught her to spell her name. Great memories:)

  • 08:18 what don't we ever sing about?

  • @WolfieboyMachi Brains.

  • @WolfieboyMachi Yes. Note she is the brainy kid in the class- she's surrounded by piles of books.

  • @milotickz: The subtitles on the Fantasia 2000 DVD spell it as "Bernie".

  • here comes the bride...and there goes the, what????

  • @ser89ers Groom :)

  • @andresdrk thanks!

  • @ser89ers There goes the Groom

  • You have GOT to love Professor Owl.

  • I think Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom was better. This one was okay, but like I said.

  • @RingoandCarlin

In fact, Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom won the Academy Award fort Best Short Cartoon in 1953.

    Promise

  • @Mortadelo658 yes I knew that it won an Academy Award in 53, and it truely was a magnificent short that Disney ever made.

  • @RingoandCarlin

The Most Magnificent of all, pal

  • That R.K.O. logo that was black and red is really the same one they used for Fantasia, and I'm serious

  • 2:52: I thought he going to say Homer Simpson when I was little

  • Bertie Birdbrain looks like Chicken Joe from Surf's Up.. Or more like Chicken Joe looks a lot like Bertie Birdbrain! Love this cartoon <3 Brings back wonderful memories.

Oh, pause at 2:34.. tee hee.

  • Bertie Birdbrain looks like Chicken Joe from Surf's Up.. Or more like Chicken Joe looks a lot like Bertie Birdbrain! Love this cartoon <3 Brings back wonderful memories.

  • if all classes were taught like this, i would not hate school as much as i already do

  • Old school Disney is the BEST!!!

  • Suzy Sparrow! Wonder what the kids gonna learn from her!

  • "O how happy I will be, when I learn my A B - See?!"

  • Phenomal Short!

I love this scene! 04:29 Kiss!!!

  • 4:00 to 5:40 made me realize death. I was 6 yo..

  • Homo Saplens sound like Policeman from "Tom and Jerry in Tot Watcher's"

  • Wait, whats the problem with singing about parades?!?!?! She said "NEVER SING ABOUT PARADES!" WHY?!?! I've been wondering that for years! Is it a joke? If it is...I don't get it...

  • @Blossomadorable She said "brains", not "parades". The joke is that, as a smart bookish girl, she resents songs being written about beauty, but not brains.

  • @Blossomadorable "Brains." The glasses denote the "smart kid." Rhymes w/ "planes."

  • i wish disney could show these shorts they are so funny. Much better than the crap that they show on tv these days. i mean really GET A CLUE kids want to see more cartoons not stupid shows they should show more cartoons like, fishhooks you know bring back the old school disney catoonns.

  • Domnugheara lol

  • A pun to ladies everywhere :\

  • that was incredible how we can use melody everywhere and everything.

  • Oh, geez. I wish more animations were like this. I love this campy old shit.

  • I showed this to my sister and just half way through she said that this was boring and that she didn't want to watch it anymore. My sister has no sense of humor.

  • i really miss the old disney,...it has made almost everything on what i had during my childhood,...now i am just unfortunate to know that my 8 year old sister mainly focused on some cheap, cliche' crap were a winey ass teenage pop star just live the hell of whatever life she has

  • why is the 6:35 part looking so creepy?

  • hahahahaha di$ $hitz s0 g@y hahahahaha

  • Suzy Sparrow is busty!

  • Homer Sapens lol.

  • I remember watching this when I was a little kid! I loved Professor Owl! I think I watched Disney's Dumbo before watching this...I forgot...too long ago.

  • Gosh, I wish Disney still made shorts like this.

  • Bill Thompson, everybody!

  • man i love old cartoons!!!

  • Am I the only one who was absolutely scarred for life as a child by Mr. Owl? I'm seriously scared of him.

  • Apparently, this was the very first cartoon every filmed in 3D. Released on May 10, 1953, for the "3D Jamboree" at Disneyland. But, I'm not surprised that it was the first of it's kind. Leave it to Walt, (or should I say, his studio) to be the pioneers of film/ animation exploration.

  • Oops, late correction, it was released on May 28, 1953. I must have mistaken it for "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom's" release date, which was on November 10, 1953. I always get the two mixed up. 0.o

  • Shotgun wedding!

  • I just the Owl! He's famous from the Disney Sing-Along videos from the past.

  • This cartoon, and Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom will always be better than the Sing-Alongs to me!

  • Yeah, But Professor Owl is a good friend of Jiminy Cricket and Ludwig Von Drake.

  • @hersheyandshadow its all the same

  • The Disney Sing Long Videos were from the start of the 90's lol VHS isnt all that old-- at least that's how I feel. 1953 - when this cartoon was made - now that's "the past" LOL

  • @dolphinluv2413 mr owl is from disney sing along songs except very merry christmas songs

  • pretty creative!

  • man, I LOVE this stuff!!! :D!!!

  • the opening sequence with the titles written on mobiles is like the three little bops, its based on some 50s artists sculpture work.

  • The death of a human skeleton looks creepy.

  • lol, "we never sing about brain"

  • This brings back good old memories when I was a little kid. The artwork is still amazing even today.

  • Oooh could someone please please tell me what the voice of the owl is also in? i think it might be jock from lady and the tramp?

  • It is. I'm not sure of his name but that is the voice of jock. He did alot of voice work for disney.

  • i think its the same guy that does the voice of the white rabbit.....im not sure though....

  • @piratelord091 Bill (Droopy) Thomson. Was also Touche Turtle.

  • Yes. He also did Prince Phillip's father in Sleeping Beauty, the ranger of Brownstone National Park, Mr. Smee from Peter Pan, an I can't remember the other ones at this time.

  • Bill Thompson is the name.

  • Yeah, that's him! Thanks.

  • "blablablablablabla blaaa"

    Funniest part:)

  • wow this is awesome! Thanks for bringing this Disney cartoon back. xD

  • My favorite part of this video was the art.

  • "Homer Sapin's?!"

lol got to love Birdie Bird Brain XD

  • Poor Penelope....it's true, though, you never hear songs about brainy girls.

  • haha 1:58

I always loved that bit in the sing-along segments with this guy

  • im loving this jazz theme. actually, back in the day, disney is full of orchestral and jazz ensemble pieces.

    not like today...

  • Love these Disney "infotainment" short footages. Very clever. The music is outstanding.

The only very slight criticism I could make is that Disney provided a sugar coated image of the world to children, all too often creating false hopes.

But then again: it is not the responisbility of a company like Disney to tell us "it's aggressive out there, not all your dreams will come true".

Anyway: I deeply admire the timeless work involved here.

  • Haha, can you imagine this as a children's show today?

    Lol, especially with Suzy Sparrow...

  • My opinion is that this and Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom are WAY better than the Sing Along videos!

  • Please add a disclaimer that you do not own these videos! Pretty please with sugar on top!

  • It was then in 1986-1997 that they used clips from "Melody" and "Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom" for the VHS series, "Disney's Sing-Along Songs."

  • I think you meant 1986-1998, not 1986-1997.

  • Nope. The Disney Sing-Alongs lasted from 1986-1997. Look it up on wikipedia.

  • This is the best disney short I've ever seen.

Why haven't they made any full feature films which are nearly this appealing visually, is beyond me.

  • I use to watch these characters in the "Disney Sing-A-Long Songs" videos. They literally take the footage from this & change the words. This is so weird for me to see this, 'cause I thought that they were just from the Sing-A-Long videos.

  • This is the original Professor Owl appearance, which means this is earlier than the Sing Along videos that have these characters.

This cartoon and Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom are both from 1953, while the SAS videos with these characters started in 1986.

  • Conrack wants Super Thing to pay attention to him, while Susan wants Thing King to say the word, "it."

  • I'm real glad these cartoons are from 1953, instead of from 1965!

  • Disney should re-release this movie in Disney Digital 3-D.

  • it's too bad that cartoons are no longer wholesome and educational, this was a great time to be a kid :)

  • This is because people today think that entertainment and education can't go well together.

  • You are correct! Now a days people rather criticize and find negativity in things (and people), instead of looking at the big picture, from the kids point of view....it's a shame....isn't?

  • M-E-L-O-D-Y Melody! The subject for todal will be a mel-oh-dee!

  • @michaelmoval

    I Love That Too

  • Does anyone know of a video either by disney or warner brothers (most likely warner brothers) that was very very strange, a little freaky at times...i was so young when i saw it but it included hot water bottles, lab experiments, and was very colourful? I swear i wasnt on acid at the time lol

  • Me too, i remember this from like i was 4 years old, i could never understand what was going on, it was very strange to me...still is kinda, very weird! lol But brings back good memories.

  • WOW, I forgot how spectacular this was! I remember bits and pieces from my childhood, but the animation and the music was very clever!

  • OMG! When I saw this for the first time as a little kid it was in the early 90s I didn't know this was that old! such wonderful memories.. I still have this recorded in an old tape somewhere.

  • Some of this film was used in "Disney Sing Along Songs: Fun With Music".

  • That is correct, and some fottage was brand new!

  • I keep seeing this scene in my memory of the owl dancing with the notes on screen...is it in sing along songs video u are talking about?

  • disney = god

  • Bill Thompson is truly awesome!

  • I think that Bird, Cricket, and Willow Tree was co-written by Paul Francis Webster who also wrote the theme song of Spider-Man.

  • wow this is awesome! is it avail on dvd?

  • They're bonuses on Fantasia 2000

  • thanks!

  • This cartoon was originally released in 3D in 1953, but it was later released in 2D. A year later, Disney released another 3D short was "Working for Peanuts" with Donald Duck and Chip & Dale. That was just about it for these two Disney shorts that are in 3D.

  • Thanks for bringing this Disney cartoon back.
