I have been playing guitar for over 15 years and I bought this exact guitar about 6 years ago and still to this day I LOVE IT. looks incredibly beautiful and sounds great!! quality product. JON WAY RULES!
IS HE TEASING ME OR DID HE JUST PLAY A REAL LEFTY? I'm trying to see if they just switched the video or if he's really a lefty. Trying to read his shirt to see if the video is true- his man boobs make it tough to read.
Does this guitar's pickup switch work good, unlike some Epi LP Standards where is won't give sound to a certain pickup? And do you think based on the quality and worksmanship of this guitar it'll last a good while. This is my first electric guitar to buy and I just want to make sure it will stay in good condition over time if I take care of it, cus I don't want to spend more money on fixing the guitar than actually buying it.
I bought an AL-2000 Tiger Eye in rootbeer back in 2005 and it is a terrific axe. The quality is superb and I've put it through its paces playing the clubs. It sound great on Whitesnake covers! Granted I have a large rack system and two 4x12 Jackson cabinets, but it's a great guitar. Nice vid Jon.
I also use an ebony Agile AL-2500 with three Gibson Dirty Fingers pups, and a 1st generation Agile Ghost explorer. Great guitars and the quality is great!
Still stock. It's a good match for my Gibson Explorer although they do sound quite different from each other. The Gibson is all maple with Dirty Fingers pups while the Agile Ghost is mahogany. The stock pups in the Ghost sound really good with my rig. I don't want to change it out since the first generation Ghosts were a short run that looked like the Gibson. Great axe though! :)
do the pickups on the dauntless really make a big difference because i like the look of this better and its cheaper but the dauntless has seymor duncans so... do they really make a big difference cause this guitar sounds pretty good for $200
Pickups can make a huge difference in the sound of your guitar. If you like the look of this one, then you should buy it, and change the pickups out when you've got some more money. The Dauntless and AL2000 are very close in their specs. Hope this is helpful.
@brianway1 Because im going to buy my first guitar, and i want a hard rock sound like guns n roses, but i would like some variety in the sound, so should i go for the agile 2000 or the 3000?? or im asking too much for a beginner guitar?
@Nintendo129 My advice, get a nice guitar as a first one. I got my first guitar and loved playing but hated the fucking thing. I ended up selling it real quick. You want a guitar that motivates you to play, a POS won't do that. This would be an excellent first guitar, Agile delivers great guitars for super low prices because of their direct sales.
Thanks for the comment and advice. We listened to many of you and started using a tube amp with no effects as Episode 35. Check them out. They're nice and clear.
Good Ear. It took us a while, but after some great comments like yours, we started playing clean without effects. Episode 34 on are set up this way. Thanks
Only when I'm eating. ;) I'm a lefty, but Rondo wanted to show most of the details on a righty guitar, because most of the guitar playing world is righty. We only use the lefty when I'm playing the guitar.
I hate to be a picky commenter but I have a small request. Besides sound, I want to know how you feel about the overall feel and build of this guitar compared to a Gibson LP (1-10 works fine) I understand you're doing this for Rondo, but I was just curious since I haven't encountered an Agile to play for myself. I hope I'm not asking for too much
@brianway1 Hello Brian, nicely done. I'd like to say, since I own both Gibson and AL2000 Series, I would say they compare 1 to 1, at a 10, to the Studio version Gibson since we are not then engaging the "extras" associated with the other versions of either unit maker. I have taken a digital Caliper to both regarding dimensions and fully disassemble both. So, since God made the Wood, both are equal otherwise. Both unit makers have their issues... how they get resolved was equally as good for me.
When we started the video reviews Rondo wanted us to show everyone a righty, because most players are righty, but because I'm a lefty we needed to video me playing a lefty. Thanks for watching.
Does the fingerboard look and play well? The only complaint I have heard by guitar techs on youtube about the AL models is that they hand filed the frets down a little maybe due to string buzz? I would think because that has already been done it would play just fine. I can't wait to order my AL-3100.
Your AL-3100 is quite a bit nicer than the AL-2000, so you will be impressed. That being said, I find that every single guitar I have owned that costs less than $800 always needs a little work from my guitar tech. For not a lot of money a good guitar tech or luthier can make your guitar play like butter. Hope this helps.
i'm getting this guitar for my birthday in goldtop color but i'm planning to change the pickups if necessary, how are the stock pickups? i'm getting it for classic rock covers and how are the electronics, the last month i return my epiphone LP standard because the switch didn't work , do you think a pickup change is necessary to fit my prerogative or stock pickups are just great??
As you know, if you played two of the same model guitar they would play a little different and sound a little different. Try the new guitar out with your existing amp and settings. If it's not hot enough, then change out the pickups. You may find that you like the neck pickup, but the bridge isn't hot enough. I use Seymour Duncan 59', Pearly Gates, and DiMarzio Classic PAF style replacements, but you may want to go online to those sites and hear each pickup specifically.
I don't know which one I have... any way of finding out? I'd like this model or one above if possible. In black with black hardware... I saw a nice one, but it's an AL2000.
I bought an Agile (can't remember the exact model but it was a LP body style). Anyway- it was years ago, probably 2002. It's a GREAT guitar and honestly felt about as good as a Gibson. I've heard Agile got some lawsuits against them (by Gibson) so I was wondering if they are still able to put out as good of guitars as they did a few years back. I want another one...
Im sorry man but that looks more like the Tiger eye finish then the root-beer. Its just me cause i want to see a tiger eye finish before i get one and the picture they have at rondos music arent that convincing...,,,
@yourdayga Like Jon said, it is indeed a Tiger Eye, if you have hesitation all i can say is buy it, the rondo site pics don't do it justice. (I have a Tigereye AL2K myself, it's sexy) :)
@torturedklown Thanks man for the tip.. But now i cant make up my mind man lol... Its this or an ESP EC 256... Both guitars look amazing but i dont think i would want to buy a guitar that i have not tried for myself. In the past i was never a fan of les paul shape cause its was uncomfortable for me to play. But the esp feels amazing and is very light.
@yourdayga Well these are definitely NOT light, but I think it only adds to their tone. Mine weighs in around 10-11lbs i think. As far as being able to try it out, Kurt has one of the best return policies I've seen... anything wrong with it send it back. There's also other shape Agiles that are just as good quality, just the AL series is the best known. Check out the website, good stuff. (geez Jon, think Kurt should start a referral program or what?) :-)
We run the guitar through a Boss GX-700 unit which splits the single into 2 channels. One goes to a 1963 Haynes Jazz King II amp set on clean with some spring reverb, and the other goes to a JC120 setting on a Line 6 Flextone II XL
hey man i would love if you could tab them for me? i was sittin down for about 5 mins and wrote something sort of similar but not as good so if i could find out i would love you
Yeah, I wish they had these around when I started playing. Actually you could get a nice Ibanez Les Paul for cheap money in the 1070s, so I guess the more things change the more they stay the same.
@brianway1 yea this girl i likes wanted her first electric guitar, so i was looking for ones with in her budget range, and when i showed her this one, she feel in love with it. personally, i would consider this one for my next electric, but i have my eyes set an Agile Reaper Custom XD
We use two amps. A 1963 Haynes Jazz King II amp clean with some reverb, and a Line 6 Flextone II XL amp set for clean. A Roland Jazz Chorus clean setting. we fed the guitar signal through a Roland GX700 unit set for clean, and a slight distortion for part of the demo.

It's funny how the used the same rootbeer al-200 and made it pass as a tiger eye. I mean they are pretty similar but from the pics at rondo I think the rootbeer is a bit darker.
Awesome review on an Awesome guitar. Best guitar for the money IMHO.
