My phone did this a couple of weeks ago too.

However, my instance was not the case of tiling the phone sideways and then closing the phone app.

Mine happened when i downloaded some game from the repositories ( i forget which one) which launches in portrait mode. I didn't like the game and sloe closed the app which in this portrait mode. The phone screen remained in this mode. Nothing would revert it back to normal until a restart

@curjam I heard they have updates out now (4months after you posted this) that change allow you to run the N900 in portrait...

For me its the slight bulk. N900 inside N97 case and you would have an awesome device..

Portrait mode will be available end of dec with the new update. Too many people asked for it and nokia will deliver it end of this year in the next new update

I read in an interview of apple, not sure where that they are going to release an update that changes the OS so if it is jailbreaked it will automatically shut off or something, It might be just a rumor though

It's good to know that it is capable of running in portrait mode but you can still see that it doesn't accomodate the multitasking page properly.

If you click on the link on "more info" you will see that this is a glitch and not a firmware update so hopefully everything will be running smoothly when they release the new firmware.

i dont. i originally assumed it because nokia already confirmed they'll be releasind an update with portrait-mode.

but now i know the actual story behind this video: its a bug.

he held the n900 in portrait-mode and as soon as the phone-app launched, he got out the keyboard and ended the phone-app as soon as he could. thats how the phone stayed in portrait-mode even in the menu.
