This is truly a masterpiece, from the very beginning, going through the beautiful and relaxing guitar solo by Frank, and then my favourite part with the jazzy keyboard solo along with the drums and bass, where the song goes absolutely crazy, simply amazing. Listening to this is a whole experience!
All one has to do is listen to as much of Frank's music as often as possible. That's it! Seriously... it is as simple as that. 99.9% of all other music seems to pale in comparison to the music that man was capable of making. He certainly made life worth living. Listening to Frank Zappa still puts a smile on my face. Fortunately, he left behind a huge amount of music for everyone to enjoy.
I have to listen to this music to stay sane.I miss you Frank you old sorcerer.best solo ever. best all around "grab you and pull you in" player on earth. ever!
Inca Roads Rally is a car race here in Perú...ut's obvious that Frank was here...maybe at that time when we suffered a dictator who repressed the listening of Rock Music which it's been consider a huge damage for peruvian youth....incredible....they sent back Santana for having long hair and have the hippie lookalike.....incredible, right?...So Frank came to Perú and we didn't know who he was....
My fave of all Zappas creations. I think. And George Duke sings it so smoothly. Notice Zappa is tapping the strings with his pick in his solo. That's kinda rare in 75! Eddie Van Halen made it popular some years later.
Great to see people commenting about favourite parts. In most popular music, especially nowadays, we can take out certain parts of a song, but a minute later we'll hear the exact same thing. Zappa wasn't more of a genius than anybody else, but he dared. Courage isn't worth even a thin dime anymore in pop music.
The whole band is just brilliant. A lot of the time, when someone thinks of a Frank Zappa drummer, they instantly think of Terry Bozzio, and fair enough he's a monster , but they're all superb. Really, listening to Frank Zappa is what made me realise how much of a difference having a great drummer can make compared to having an okay drummer.
Terry Bozzio is the most recognizable of the Zappa drummers for sure. Chester Thompson gave this organized choas a pulse, and very well done for that matter. Its unfortunate that Chester doesn't get a lot of recgonition for this as well as others on "One Size Fits All". The guy is always in the pocket.
this song as a whole is fantastic beyond description, but in particular 2:00-5:20 enters a new realm that is so incredibly perfect its unreal. RIP FRANK
Ive been a Zappa fan for 35 yr, have 60+ albums & this is a deeper song than meets the ear/eye. Zappa albums are never the same from one to the next. Some of todays music, u could change the words & lp cover,and have a new album out. thx for the upload.
@puckering1 Yep, me too. First heard Zappa from my friends older brothers 8 track tape. It was this album "one size fits all" Blew me away. I also have collected his albums on there original labels, verve ect. Have duplicates of a few along with his box set series ect.
People just don't know. It's like some begin to touch the edge by saying RUSH is a great group with phenomenal musicians, (and okay, yeah) but this is a tour de force of tour de forces. You can live a musical lifetime within this single track.
wow, its incredible I almost never get tired of this song. I've probably listened to it like 10 times a month on average over the past two years or so, lol.
By the way, if god existed, I would blow him just for creating Frank Zappa. I really would.

Zappa like the Dead were a thinkin mans band. The sad thing is most people are very much surface and never scratch it. Possibly like the Beatles said Rubber[or] Plastic soul!
@borntrippin Thanks, borntrippin. As an old time Dead Head and Zappa fan I have often told people who do not appreciate either (esp. the Dead) that great music often doesn't fall easily on the ear, but that once you 'heard it' the magic comes easily. Needless to say a statement such as that is not easily heard either. Good Trippin.......unacat
p.s. Any non believers that I took to a Dead show left understanding deeply.
@icenine2 I agree with that. When I firt heard Led Zepp, I didn't like it but than after few months..Best band ever for me. And the same with Frank Zappa, It was like "oh, this is weird music. That man must be insane..."and after few months "maaan, this is best, this man must be insanely genial". Zappa and Led Zepp did best music ever...
Beyond brilliant. This track epitomises everything that was admirable about Francis V. I've probably played it 1000 times, and it never, ever fails to inspire and impress. One of the best guitar breaks in the history of music. I'm a fan, in case you hadn't guessed.
This song is so awesome - it's as if FZ and guys put up everything from the past, from the 70s and before into a single song, to pass history along to the oncoming generations.
@CosmicDebrisFZ. I saw him live three times. Might not be much but I sure appreciate it. Actually it was the first real rock concert I went to. I was just 15 and it was still called the Mothers of Invention in 74. I saw him two more times in the late 70's in Copenhagen. it might have been 78 and 79 but I'm not sure. Of all the dead musicians I probably miss FZ the most. He was a brilliant satirist and there has happened a lot in the world since 93. I'm sure he would love to comment most of it.
@Rayneenights Your lucky. I would of loved to see him in the 70's too. Ya miss him and SRV the most of all the dead ones I've seen, well Shanon Hoon too and all the rest, lol...Seen a ton of concerts.
It's no to often that you have the best guitar solo along with a brilliant keboard solo in the same song, Dam this song still raises the hairs on my arm after decades of listening to it. R.I.P.
@Rayneenights Yep, This is the first Zappa I heard. I was 12 or 13 at a friends house after a 420 session and we got into his older brothers 8 track tapes, (yes 8 track, lol) and this was the album. I was hooked ever since. Actually seen him live several times back in the 80's too. Excellent shows.
I honestly believe that Zappa is one of the few people, if not the only person, to have shed his mortal coil without surrendering his soul to the grip of Death. When people use the term "passed on," it's usually a euphemism for "died." Frank Zappa has passed on, but he hasn't died. Our dimension couldn't handle the awesome power of Frank, so he was forced to leave prematurely. I bet he's out there, right now, exploring the cosmos. And a fragment of him remains here.
This is one of the great songs. People who don't like or don't understand this are people who are poorly educated or/either don't like music. Frank existed to educate us. He was one of the good guys in history. It's beautiful and wonderful.
Yes, Frank was pretty libertarian, socially, and actually fiscally conservative. While he really didn't fit well in either major party, he probably had more in common with the libertarian wing of the Republican party than any other group - although he seems to have disliked being "pigeonholed".
This song is pretty mediocre and nothing special until about halfway through, when it becomes absurd - amazing piece of work in total. Fantastic stuff!
If Frank Zappa was around to be asked his opinions about Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Rangel, Mad Maxine Waters, Al Sharpton, Obamacare, or Obama's Nobel PEACE Prize, the comment would likely read "2 democrats did not like this." . . . or even more likely: "F*#! that Koch-sucking Nazi"
@mdees100 LAST TIME I CHECKED THE REPUBLICANS WERE THE WORKING MAN.... AND THE DEMOCRATS RAPE THE WORKING MAN....ESPECIALLY WITH WELFARE...TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS! HAHAHAHAHAHA FAGGOT
@zombiesnatcher82 Why would I put balls in my mouth? Everyone knows the cock is where all the fun is. I like to get juked by a baby octopus and spewed up with creamed corn.
@pineappaloupe i gotta give it you you....that shit made me laugh so hard...your a good zappa fan......lmfao im just gonna shut up cause zappa always puts me in a good mood hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mdees100 republicans like to bare arms...you know (own guns) try and protect your family by talking a real rapist or robber out of doing what they want....but oh yeah...violence never solves anything....explain the civil war you liberal fag
Frank Zappa was murdered. Colon Cancer is the death, but when it's deliberately installed, you are walking death. Wake up people...yo9ur not safe especially as an artist with as much impact as Frank had. he stood his ground, but the Government hated him and so did the CIA. frank is dead because he plaed in what he believed in was right.. So tell our government to kiss our ass.
The leading Modern Western Composer. When stodgy classicists take note of work like Zappa's, as they did, you know he truly pushed music forward. Thank you, Mr. Zappa. Word to gvmota: nice posting.
@americasayslol amazing they are no doubt, but –the ovnis part aside— few people could truly understand "guacamole queen", Ruth alusions, etc. without knowing some of the band life and touring of Zappa.
Read first before talking: "Apparently" absurd, that's what I wrote.
~~~yeah i was kinda focused on the parts about the spaceships/andes stuff. ANYWAYS> the guitar solo kicks ass...do you by chance know what show that was that they took that solo from??? is there a boot of it somewhere???
@americasayslol I only know that "You Can't Do It On Stage Anymore Vol. 2" features the Helsinki concert in 1974. There is a longer version very similar to the studio one, and a lot of songs played in "Roxy...", but at a supersonic speed.
This song always means something important to me. It's like the song is talking to me and i can feel it. I love Zappa's music and miss him. I dont think we'll ever have such inspirational composer ever and thats a big loss to this world.
Thanks Frank, i'll never forget all the quiet nights listening to your music, those were the best times in my life. Thank you
FZ visited Peru as a tourist in the early 70's and He went to Cuzco to see the lost Inca's City of Macchu Pichu, now a new wonder of the world. I wonder myself if this song has something to do with FZ visiting Macchu Pichu.
It may be; it is clearly a poke at those who believe it more likely that aliens from space made the mysterious markings (the "Inca Roads") than that the native could.
People today don't know what they're missing. I used to spend hours listening to Zappa in the late 70's and examining every square inch of the album cover art. Try to do that with a CD.
If Frank Zappa was around to be asked his opinions about Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Rangel, Mad Maxine Waters, Al Sharpton, Obamacare, or Obama's Nobel PEACE Prize, the comment would likely read "2 democrats did not like this." . . . or even more likely: "F*#! that Koch-sucking Nazi"
Well done, good work here. And Frank, thank you for the "sound track" of my life growing up and to this day.
Frank Zappa was murdered. Colon Cancer is the death, but when it's deliberately installed, you are walking death. Wake up people...yo9ur not safe especially as an artist with as much impact as Frank had. he stood his ground, but the Government hated him and so did the CIA. frank is dead because he plaed in what he believed in was right.. So tell our government to kiss our ass.
The version on you cant do that onstage anymore number 2, is much better. Same solo,but with a more 'cutting' sound to it.
The leading Modern Western Composer. When stodgy classicists take note of work like Zappa's, as they did, you know he truly pushed music forward. Thank you, Mr. Zappa. Word to gvmota: nice posting.
People often confuse mentals with geniuses. Zappa's a perfect example.
A song to watch the stars with, despite the crazy and -apparently- absurd lyrics.
The guitar solo is, in my opinion, THE guitar solo.
lyrics are amazin. you are crazy and absurd
americasayslol 1 year ago 2
@americasayslol amazing they are no doubt, but –the ovnis part aside— few people could truly understand "guacamole queen", Ruth alusions, etc. without knowing some of the band life and touring of Zappa.
Read first before talking: "Apparently" absurd, that's what I wrote.
@jacarto
~~~yeah i was kinda focused on the parts about the spaceships/andes stuff. ANYWAYS> the guitar solo kicks ass...do you by chance know what show that was that they took that solo from??? is there a boot of it somewhere???
americasayslol 1 year ago
@americasayslol I only know that "You Can't Do It On Stage Anymore Vol. 2" features the Helsinki concert in 1974. There is a longer version very similar to the studio one, and a lot of songs played in "Roxy...", but at a supersonic speed.

This song always means something important to me. It's like the song is talking to me and i can feel it. I love Zappa's music and miss him. I dont think we'll ever have such inspirational composer ever and thats a big loss to this world.
Thanks Frank, i'll never forget all the quiet nights listening to your music, those were the best times in my life. Thank you

FZ visited Peru as a tourist in the early 70's and He went to Cuzco to see the lost Inca's City of Macchu Pichu, now a new wonder of the world. I wonder myself if this song has something to do with FZ visiting Macchu Pichu.

@MusicFromPeru
It may be; it is clearly a poke at those who believe it more likely that aliens from space made the mysterious markings (the "Inca Roads") than that the native could.

I play Zappa in my car for about 10 years now. Before then I didn't have a car
so I only played it at home. It's my favorite artist since 30 years.
How can one make thus serious music involving that amount of humor ???.

People today don't know what they're missing. I used to spend hours listening to Zappa in the late 70's and examining every square inch of the album cover art. Try to do that with a CD.
