Email continued..."The Chorus is busily preparing for a trip to Berlin next week and I wish I could go with them, but my traveling days are over. I have trouble getting around and I am on oxygen around the clock. However, I do enjoy singing. In fact, my son and I (for the first time in our lives) recorded a couple of songs together. He has a cowboy band and I was pleased to record with him and them. We probably will never meet, but I do thank you for your kind words. Fred Knittle"
I was so sad to hear Fred had died. The film touched me and I sobbed my heart out at this rendition. I felt moved enough to email Y@H, praising Fred and the cast as a whole. Low and behold, I actually received an email from the man himself (this was Nov 06)! I still have it :) Here's a snippet: "Thank you for your nice comments about my singing To Fix You with the Young @ Heart Chorus. Your compliments made me feel that the little I added to that documentary was worth it."
I saw this movie last night. Best movie in my life. What a brilliant group of people. It's our hope that we become half as awesome as this bunch when we hit the 80's. R.I.P to all who died during and after this film.
What makes this so moving is that the late Fred Knittle was singing this from his heart as the group had just lost the man who was to sing this as a duet with Fred. May you rest in peace Mr. Knittle; I will always think of you when I hear this song.
Here's to the life of Fred, and all the impact he made in this world. "Friendraising" for deaf children, and always a positive outlook. He made the world a better place. Rest in peace.
Absolutely love this film. Played it for my 82 year old friend, I'm 65, and we both cried at this scene. Everyone should see it to appreciate the elderly. Hopefully we'll be there ourselves someday.
thanks for posting this. I just saw the film and this is memorable. Everyone should see this or at least hug someone over 80! (And, learn something from 'em)
they are an insparation to all of us. i hope whene im 80 odd i have half their energy. if ido then ime doing ok. tears came streaming down my face and i am young at heart also. respect

So much better than Coldplay's. I don't know why. I love their version too, but this is much better. So full of love. Oh my good. So amazing.

Forgot to say that one of the two gentlemen was his duet partner, which gives even more poignancy to the performance

That scene from the film is very touching. Two of this man's dear friends, both in their 80s, had just passed away that very week...
I couldn't recommend the film (Young@heart) too highly. Simply inspiring.
