Alan Watts was not so much a Philosopher himself but he was more like a gifted Teacher of philosophy who made the often tedious works of others more enjoyable and easier to understand. For that I respect him a lot. And to all you kids out there - respect your teachers !!!
@TurboRonin83 I agree with you that Alan was a gifted teacher who made the tedious works of others enjoyable etc. but I have to strongly disagree with the not much of a philosopher part.
There is no new thoughts everything has been said before in a different way . What AW does is remind us of our inherent knowledge that we are dependent beings who need a frame of reference to something we can relate to in order to feel alive. Unfortunately we have reached a point where we can only relate to a limited frame and that is threatening to our existence

Alan Watts is dumb as fuck. Wow. I'm Alan Watts. I can regurgitate everything I learned about outdated, non-Western Asiatic philosophies because us Anglicans are trying to destroy the Catholic Church cause we hate it. Not only is AW stupid, he doesn't have one original thought. Who listens to this shit?

There must be a absolut thruth. Those who say everything is relevant ignore this. Buddha, Allha, Jahve or any other cant all be true at the same time. Its inconsekvent cause they'r controversing each other.Jesus him self said: "I am the resurrection, and life he thet believeth in me, thoug he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? And: Said I not uto thee, that if thou vouldest beleave, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
Jesus was quoting the teachings of the Baghavad Gita which promise after ones death, if they are truly a person of god they can ascend to Goloka, the heavenly planetary home of Krishna, the chief god.
So if a person is on a level where they do not see that this is a 'relative game' they take the actions within the human world as being of absolute importance. They are stuck within the mechanism and don't see that it is but a minor process in a vast Universe. So if one loses money on the stock market, how big is that in relation to the whole Universe.. but to the tiny human,it can be the most important thing in the Univsere. It's interesting how relative things can be seen as vastly important!
In the stock market example, the folly is in investing too big of an emotional stake in one's money riding on it. Think of the pathetic people who commit suicide after losing money on the stock market.
"people who commit suicide after losing money on the stock market."

Recently there was a billionaire who committed suicide due to the financial crisis . But from my point of view as being a poor visual artist barely paying the rent, I see that even if he lost everything, he would probabaly have millions$ and millions$ in crumbs which is more than most of us. Most of us get attached to these things to some extent in our lives but by being able to also see them ... cont>
cont2>... in relation to the enormous scale and characteristics of the rest of the Universe (or 'Reality') can allow us to not get so affected by things. I think if one can realize things so one has one foot in relative reality (experiencing the game of life : ie, the details and interactions experienced through the 'interface' that is the illusionary 'you' as an an "apparently separate" organism) and one foot planted in a zone of understanding where one sees that ...cont>
cont3>... the small-scale magnification level used by being one focal point of "Reality" (being one 'seemingly' separate
organism) is just relative, then any supposed huge 'problems' affecting one's experience won't cause one much grief unless you want to experience that as part of the game.
One would also be limiting the impact of the supposed "good" aspects of life as it is a face of the same 'coin' as reducing the effects of pain. It's like balancing the coin on it's edge.
If a given star didn't exist, you would be different than what you are now"

Past massive stars which went supernova expelled heavy elements into space to later allow the planets of newly formed solar systems to have life-bearing elements. The link between stars and life is real.
So, additionally, because a certain star 'no longer exists', it affects who you are too. The Universe is a vast interaction. If we could see how small our annoyances really are we could stop all conflicts
But, it seems natural in one regard, for humans to act in accordance with natural characteristics that are part of our historically derived ntures. SO after billions of years of changes and interaction, biological characteristics make humans act and relate certain ways. The greed and what we see as unpleasant things are part of this. I can see, though, that it 'IS' better to see this for what it is instead of being stcuk in the mechanism of it - To see this natural process as a relative game.
I have been thinking a lot lately of the Jewel Mirror of Awareness. This is a great lecture, in its simplicity and subtlety.
