  • i want to witness aliens in some form or another.

  • Alan Watts= The great mystic of our time.

  • @3AtomicJabez8 other than me

  • I never get bored of listening to Alan Watts

  • Alan Watts is unserpassable.

  • Every one before birth should be gifted with an I.Q. of 500% or higher. No more Hate, No more Sin, No more Death.

  • Alan Watts was not so much a Philosopher himself but he was more like a gifted Teacher of philosophy who made the often tedious works of others more enjoyable and easier to understand. For that I respect him a lot. And to all you kids out there - respect your teachers !!!

  • @TurboRonin83 I agree with you that Alan was a gifted teacher who made the tedious works of others enjoyable etc. but I have to strongly disagree with the not much of a philosopher part.

  • There is no new thoughts everything has been said before in a different way . What AW does is remind us of our inherent knowledge that we are dependent beings who need a frame of reference to something we can relate to in order to feel alive. Unfortunately we have reached a point where we can only relate to a limited frame and that is threatening to our existence

  • @BiteHunter

    You?

  • @BiteHunter Apparently those of us who aren't so foul-mouthed.

  • it takes 2(or more) to play this game called life.

  • Does anybody know the name of the image at 1:05 __???

  • Yes, it's the flammarion woodcut.

  • THANKS!

  • I'm not sure, but it could be by Andreas Cellarius for the Harmonia Macrocosmica.

  • he had a great laugh

  • absolute truth??? well...you exist, is that good enough?

  • Jesus was quoting the teachings of the Baghavad Gita which promise after ones death, if they are truly a person of god they can ascend to Goloka, the heavenly planetary home of Krishna, the chief god.

  • thanks for the post.

also, where did you get the picture that runs from about minute in where the man is peering through the universe.

    thank again

  • type in alchemical images on google and search a few pages in...you should find it!

  • So if a person is on a level where they do not see that this is a 'relative game' they take the actions within the human world as being of absolute importance. They are stuck within the mechanism and don't see that it is but a minor process in a vast Universe. So if one loses money on the stock market, how big is that in relation to the whole Universe.. but to the tiny human,it can be the most important thing in the Univsere. It's interesting how relative things can be seen as vastly important!

  • no any difference made to your conscious, good or bad, small or'vast', affects the whole universe, since were all one

  • In the stock market example, the folly is in investing too big of an emotional stake in one's money riding on it. Think of the pathetic people who commit suicide after losing money on the stock market.

  • "people who commit suicide after losing money on the stock market."

    -------------

Recently there was a billionaire who committed suicide due to the financial crisis . But from my point of view as being a poor visual artist barely paying the rent, I see that even if he lost everything, he would probabaly have millions$ and millions$ in crumbs which is more than most of us. Most of us get attached to these things to some extent in our lives but by being able to also see them ... cont>

  • cont2>... in relation to the enormous scale and characteristics of the rest of the Universe (or 'Reality') can allow us to not get so affected by things. I think if one can realize things so one has one foot in relative reality (experiencing the game of life : ie, the details and interactions experienced through the 'interface' that is the illusionary 'you' as an an "apparently separate" organism) and one foot planted in a zone of understanding where one sees that ...cont>

  • cont3>... the small-scale magnification level used by being one focal point of "Reality" (being one 'seemingly' separate

organism) is just relative, then any supposed huge 'problems' affecting one's experience won't cause one much grief unless you want to experience that as part of the game.

One would also be limiting the impact of the supposed "good" aspects of life as it is a face of the same 'coin' as reducing the effects of pain. It's like balancing the coin on it's edge.

  • If a given star didn't exist, you would be different than what you are now"

    -------

Past massive stars which went supernova expelled heavy elements into space to later allow the planets of newly formed solar systems to have life-bearing elements. The link between stars and life is real.

So, additionally, because a certain star 'no longer exists', it affects who you are too. The Universe is a vast interaction. If we could see how small our annoyances really are we could stop all conflicts

  • But, it seems natural in one regard, for humans to act in accordance with natural characteristics that are part of our historically derived ntures. SO after billions of years of changes and interaction, biological characteristics make humans act and relate certain ways. The greed and what we see as unpleasant things are part of this. I can see, though, that it 'IS' better to see this for what it is instead of being stcuk in the mechanism of it - To see this natural process as a relative game.

  • Just, beautiful, so beautiful, thank you immensely for this post.

  • no prob, glad u like it! ! !

  • an amazing man reminds me of the wonder that is life

  • the psychedelic experience...

    yeah read his books

  • words of wisdom

    thanks :)

    PEACE AND LOVE

  • I have been thinking a lot lately of the Jewel Mirror of Awareness. This is a great lecture, in its simplicity and subtlety.

One of the best aspects of Buddhism is the humour. I think other religions miss out when they fail to see humour in spirituality. Watts laughed easily.

  • I know, I don't like being around people w/o a sence of humor. And sadly, a lot of people in now adays have NO sence of humor!

  • Yep, and that really pisses me off.

  • ITS MAKES ME LAUGH!

  • Thank you Alan
