I thought Liza died at the part when the hawk killed her so she could save her babies, but her babies survived and I felt sorry for the babies, but Liza got up I was sooo HAPPY I was crying when Liz got attacked but this is a special video about a mother hen saving her own chicks.
I also wanted to add, that was so kind of you to notice she needed special housing in order to successfully raise her babies. You are a good chicken dad, you pay attention to their individual needs. They all have separate personalities and you know how rough the hierarchy can be just because you pay attention to your animals. Great job!! Not many people would bother to accommodate sweet Liza.
Thank you for Liza's story. I only wish you would have went out when you knew the hawk was present. I had to do that At my house I would go out and make myself look as big as possible to scare it away. But wow!! What a beautiful surprise ending!!! It made me so happy!! Silkie hens, their mission in life is to raise babies and they do make the best mothers, as you said about Liza. Yay! for her!! That is something that me an an NPO I work with convey, that the chicken is anything but "chicken"
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Matthew 23:36-38
@buffalobill98 Maybe Liza's chicks didn't follow her because they were bewildered by the massed flight to safety of all the other hens and their chicks and in the confusion just didn't see their mother first run for their house.
the reason the guy didn't do anyhting or chase the hawk away is so the chickens won't be so dependant on him.. so they will always know what to do during a predator is going to get them :)
This is actually a false statement. Infant chicks can indeed live to adulthood with human intervention. They can be brought inside with a heat lamp and brooder until they are old enough to be introduced to the existing flock. They have a natural instinct to scratch and find food. They do not need a mother to teach them that. God has already put it in them. I have 3 hens that I raised from day old chicks, and they never had a "mother hen" teach them a thing.
my guinea pig had 3 babies. she was such a great mother! if 1 called for her she woould stop what she was doing and go to her baby. i have videos of her one youtube. if u want to c go to my channel
A great story I really loved it. A true Mother instinct for that beautiful hen. That is why the hen is the maternal bird. And more because Mother's Day is coming up.
Aw so cute i almost lost chicks to a hawk but my rhod island red rooster killed the hawk but why because he alwaysed meanly peecked them yet he didnt after the hawk was dead.
I would have been outside with my .22 rifle before the hawk struck and sent it to meet God personally. An experienced bird owner knows the sounds of his flock. Roosters sound an alarm when a hawk is around.
ps: Chickens don't sacrifice their lives for their chicks. If they did, the chicks would die pronto with no mother. Nice little God-story but it's just that.........a story. :)
This story was very touching! Iloved the fact that Liza was very determined to hatch her very own chicks. I thought the writer/narrator did a wonderful job making this story very interesting. Thanks for that update!!! By the way, all of your chickens were beautiful... Write back soon~
what a beatifull story !!! I recomend this to those who don't care about life , you need more than courage to defend life, to defend happines , no mater what we should figth for life and goals . even chiken defend their lives .
So beautiful and cute and wonderful. It's a good thing I was eating chicken for lunch, or else I wouldn't have thought of typing in "chicken and chicks" to see any videos of such creatures.
Well I dont use to add videos in my farorits unless from the true owner of the videos . But i dint fouond the original and the story and movie is too good ! Thnks for this upp ! -^-^- !

With my chickens, the babies usually follow their mother if she runs or walks around. These ones just stay in the middle of the field.

first of all
people who think chickens are the most cowardly animal alive are stupid
i own about 20 chickens (soon to be thirty because one is sitting) and they fiight alot
chickens will fight with anything
not all but some, it matters which breed you have, mine is mostly game hens so i did have to worry about them losing to a hawk
chickens are the most tuff thing ever
