He won this match on saturday in 5 sets and then defeated federer in 5 sets the next day..He is a bulldog...mentally tough and physically as tough as rock!
Verdasco is a fantastic player. Too bad he can't use his abilities to go further in Grand Slams. Still a wonderful player though, one of my favorites.
This should be the universal camera angle. I was always bothered at how there are different camera angles for basically every court in the world, and I really don't like the ones that appear to be flat-out square-shaped (like the WTF). I like the US Open, but it's a bit too long, whereas this one compliments both hard, deep shots as well as short angles.
Too bad Verdasco doesn't play anymore like that. As you can see he and others can produce a game like that equivalent or even better at times than the greatest ever players in the game. Thats why the greatest players are the ones with most consistency - > Federer, Nadal, and now maybe Djokovic will join them but we will have to wait and see. Neither the passion or the motivation he had in this tournament are with him, its all gone.
I unrealistically hope players like Nadal can play week in week out like this :/ maybe if they did it a bit more often, you know, find the motivation and drive from within.
Nadal is just the worst player ever, he plays like a pussy, always returning balls high to ensure his opponent cant attack so well, and then he waits till he gets to the net and then nadal just shots a passing shot and thats that, so gaaaaay.
You didn't show the amazing cross court forehand Verdasco made during the 4th set tiebreak!! ....but anyway awesome vid! ....These two are by far the best shot making leftys EVER!! :D
Amazing how much talent and effort Verdasco exhibits and then completely loses his flare in his final service game ainthe 5th set and loses it all, Nadal stays consistent throughout and goes for the higher percentage shot and succeeds. Right now is Djokovic's time though.
Rafa was so defensive in this match..he was actually really lucky to get out of this one. But then again true champions defend very well..Rafa and Federer are perfect examples. Great match!
why dont they have these kind of confidence these days.....when i was watching them play ppl on wimbledon this year i thought i was watching safin....
This was an INCREDIBLE match :),but i will remember it mostly because of this thing: When i woke up this match was going to start i felt sorry because i know i couldnt watch it because i was going to school but when i returned from school they were still playin i was SOO HAPPY and i sitted i watched the match right away :))))
@MYHEARTMUTMINI10 I've had the pleasure to watch all these games and IMHO none compares to this one. You have to go to the 90s or even before to find a game in which both players were at this level. And even if you find one, the quality of shots, rallies, physical effort, the scenario, the suspense... I mean they cannot compare to this. None of Rafa-Roger's clashes ever reached this. The 2005 Miami Masters final was epic, but inconsistent. The 2008 Wimbledon final was great, but on grass context
I have never seen Verdasco play like´that. What an performence. It's really bad that he lost. I think tha Nadal won mentally, because nadal is a bigger player than him. Verdasco will look back on this match some day and he will be really proud. He shocked nadal. WOW!
@nadal589 this match has been more fought......a great battle!!!
But I continue to prefer the final with Federer.......for a reason of quality and technical level.
In that match both players invented paranormal winning shots, with forehand and backhand.......for the quality of tennis I think it has been the best match Rafa vs Roger in 25 total matches played.......better also than the final of Wimbledon 2008!!!
@jsrhendrix I feel the same way. To be fair to the sport though, I'm glad that tennis matches are won by the players and not decided by judges. Take boxing for instance.
Phenomenal match, I was glued to my seat, and phenomenal Nadal, how many great matches have we seen which involved the 'great Nadal, he has made tennis so very special.. I adore this sportsman,.
@MrBonehead93 No he wouldn't, Verdasco is a very slow player, he can't run around to hit forehands like Grosjean or Federer. Nadal's not stupid and considering this was a close match Nadal always had the upper hand during the rallys and rarely faced break points towards the end of the match.
@GyariSan ok fine he was slow in 2009 but IF he could have hit more forehands then he could have won this particular match. In this match Nadal was not playing his best and Verdasco was putting pressure on him, Nadal did not always have the upper hand during the rallies, I think the video speaks for itself
@MrBonehead93 Nadal not playing the best? He had 52 winners and only 25 UFEs. Nadal was playing superbly. Verdasco just had 95 freaking winners. Was out hitting him.
