  • fremont ne, 149.99

  • im view number 90,000 yes perfect hahaha

  • Weird... Mine comes with a barrel that measures to 27"

  • wow your barrel is alot shorter than mine...

  • @417coty It's not the size that counts. It's how you use it. I think there's an 18-inch one and a 20 inch version. Thr 20 inch version has a bigger magazine so it look much bigger.

  • @swiftcoyote not doggin you or anything..

  • @swiftcoyote yo tengo dos maveryk y tecnicamente son higuales son buenisimas

  • I bought the Knox spec oops stock, no kinda kick best mod out!

  • I bought a mossberg 500 12 ga. at a garage sale for 100 bucks. when i got it home i noticed the barrel was marked Maverick. killed two geese with it the first time i went out

  • Got mine for christmas, buying some mod's in 2012 for it...just don't know where i can get a barrel, any help?

  • Hmmm, this isn't a really good review in my opinion. The guy just basically says, "Yeah, uhm, this is great. Uh, it's okay. I like that. Well, it's fine." This guy sounds like he is completely stoned.

  • @hcdub What can I say? The video's are free. If I was getting paid maybe I would've have it a little better...but I do feel this video needs an update.

  • i found the maverick 88 for $150 at Walmart in Oklahoma, but there is also a Remington 870 for $275, so i don't know which one i should get, the main reason i want a shotgun is to go skit shooting

  • just bought one friday with a 28-inch barrel and and a six-shot tube. chambered in 3-inch. got it for 188 bucks.

  • Just bought one of these yesterday for $160 :)

  • Gettin for xmas :D

  • im geeting 1 soon

  • I bought one at Wal-Mart for $175 in 2005..;)

  • Yes good for home defense or anything else....this version can accept about 10 different barrels which all screw right onto this gun

  • is it just me or does swift coyote look like he is in jail?

  • @brianminkc lol he is.One of the prison guards was kind enough to provide the shotgun I guess.

  • picked mine up for about 190 U.S.D. I thought it would give me alot of problems down the road but i was wrong...its been a great shotgun.

  • Great Review, buddy. I'm thinking of picking up one of these. I already have a Remington 870, but I feel purchasing a backup shotgun.

  • I have had my 88 for over a year now and in that time i have put thousands of shells through this gun and not once have i had a problem with it. Its also a very easy gun to clean and its quick to break apart and put back together. Mine is much longer than yours though. And i only payed 100 for mine.

  • I bought the Mossberg 88 from academy in louisiana on our tax free weekend, $169 no taxes!!! love shooting the gun but every once in a while a shell will get stuck when trying to eject.

  • you're missing the main difference between the 500 and the 88. many of the parts used to make the maverick 88 are from mexico, and the gun is assembled in the us, whereas the 500 is completely american made. both are good guns, its just if you think made in USA is worth the price tag.

  • i bought a maverick 88 for home defense, it is my first gun, i do plan on buying the mossberg 500 in the near future. i havent fired it yet, but i do plan on going to the range to fire it next week

  • i bought this from my grandpa. i shoot the winchester match piegion ammo. i went hunting with this and its awesome. its great with skeet shooting. this is my self defense, fun, and hunting shotgun and absolute great

  • Can someone tell me if the parts for the 500 and 590 are made in mexico?

  • i'm gonna go buy one right now! i already have a remington 870 but you can never have too many guns.

  • @dammitcrap the good thing about them is that due to the poor reputation of these guns they can be bought for really cheap. I picked mine up $80 used at a pawn shop. Another good shotgun if you like the remington 870 is the H&R Pardner it is a copy of the 870 but it is also built very well. I own one as well the cost about the same

  • @cbr6864 ive had bad experiences with remington though so ill probably stick with the maverick. when i bought my 30-06 model 700 it was missing its firing pin! they replaced it... but thats the last remington i buy. the maverick im looking at already has a blackhawk collapsible stock and a heat shield. i am the biggest sucker in the world for heat shields. you can put a heat shield on a bowl of macaroni and cheese and i will buy the hell out of it lol

  • this seems to be the perfect home defense shotgun. simple, easy to use, easy to afford, perfect for sombody whose just looking for a nice crime deterent :P cock this baby once, and the theifs will be going out the same way they came in. lol. im debating on this or the maverick 505. the only thing im leaning towards the 88 for is the price.

  • I have the Maverick 88 and I love it. In our patrol cars we carry the 18.5 inch barrel pump riot shotgun. Either Remington or Mossberg. The reason we call it the "riot" shotgun is that is exactly what it's intended for. If you have a group of hostile perps in frontof you the short barrel will take out a BUNCH of them with one shot. That's why law enforc. uses it. And with a slug in the short barrel it's deadly accurate at long distance.

  • I'm originally from the dirty too dude...I never even bothered trying to buy a gun there. I waited until I moved out to the midwest where I don't have to jump through a flaming hoop with dynamite tied to my balls just to legally own a firearm

  • Nice review, thanks!

  • lol it's ideal for skeet shooting with the shorter barrel

  • no i have it in 20 ga

  • new jersey sucks thats why i moved

  • yes it can handle 3inch slugs i have the same shot gun and shoot 3inch a lot

  • $159.00 @ Wal-Mart all the time (at least here in the Great State of Texas). My 88 even has a vent rib rail, a drilled and tapped reciever, modified accu choke tube and a 3" chamber. No other gun value comes close!

  • I have the full field version of the 88 with the longer barrel. Awesome shooting gun. Outshoots my friends 6 and 800 dollar guns, got it for 177 bucks new, jams less, always reliable in cold and wet weather.

  • Love this gun, light, perfect for field and clay. Can outshoot my friends 6 and 800 dollar guns easily with it

  • i got mine brand new for 150

  • excellent review. nice job

  • Anyone know hope to rig a sling on this puppy?? Mine has the extended tube.

  • @TR5T you have to have a sling tap in the stock next to the buttpad and the other end goes in the tube, no problems

  • I like the weight and feel of the 88 ,but I have owned Mossbergs for 35 years and I like the safety location better on my 500 and my 835 ulti mag . For home defence though you allways have that universal sound of the slide racking on a 12 gauge which is usually followed by footsteps running in the opposite direction or a loud "don't shoot" either way the 12 gauge is a formidable weapon ,and usefull tool ! Thanks for sharing the vid !

  • I shot one of these but it had sights. I thought the 500 had them not the 88

  • that "pattern" on top of the receiver is not just a pattern, the slot work as the rear sight to match up with the bead sight near the muzzle.

  • Can this sustain the pressure of a 3 inch magnum slug?

  • @dirtyminded604 ...I don't know.

  • @dirtyminded604

Sure can. Will handle any 2 3/4" or 3" shell you feed it.

  • @dirtyminded604 I'm sure it could.

  • @dirtyminded604 yes you can, but be prepared for the recoil

  • @jimbob19795 Thanks good to know. Yes, shot many of 3" magnums, was interested in purchasing an 88 so i wanted to know. They do kick like mules!

  • @dirtyminded604 Yes it can

  • @dirtyminded604 yes it will, it is chambered for 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. Just don't use a full choke, probably not a good idea ;) although knowing it's a mossy, it'd probably hold up none the less.

  • @dirtyminded604 .. I've had the 88 for about 5 years, and it's held up to a fair share of heavier loads. 3 inch slugs and buckshot, 3 inch steel #2's all without a hitch. This gun is solid. I've put about 500 rounds through mine without a single malfunction. I've taken a deer with a rifled slug at 100 yards with the 28 inch field barrel that mine has. I have to recommend it as it's been a reliable shotgun. I also added a Mossberg side mounting scope mount on it for about $30 from Walmart.

  • @dirtyminded604 yes sir

  • @dirtyminded604 yessir it wont do a 3 1/2

  • @dirtyminded604 yes it can , i own one and have shot many 3in magnum slugs thru it

  • @dirtyminded604 yes, its chambered in 2 3/4,3" so I dont see why not

  • @dirtyminded604 yes

  • @dirtyminded604

Shot alot out of mine. But ireally recommend 2-3/4 slugs

  • love this gun i have the maverick 88 with the pistol grip

  • I see you posted this back in 2009, Im wondering if you still like the 88 and if you have had any problems so far? I would like to get one if its recommended

  • @offonroad I still like it, but since making that video I've only used it twice. I really don't have anywhere to use it. It's the same with my rifles.

No problems either time. I'd recommend it, but keep in mind the Mossberg 500 is the better gun.

  • 22" barrels and below are NOT used for hunting my friend..

  • this gun and the 500 are just about the same except for the trigger assembly (88 is almost all plastic) i got my 88 for under $100

  • @cbr6864 do you mean the actual assembly itself or just the trigger guard? like all the moving internal parts of the trigger housing are plastic? that kind of worries me a little

  • @dammitcrap No its a mix of poly and metal, I have god knows how many rounds through mine with a good portion of those being 3" magnums. This gun is very well made

  • @cbr6864 a friend of mine said he had heard that they had plastic trigger assemblies but the source heard that from wasnt sure so naturally he wasn't sure. so when you confirmed it it got me a bit worried. but after reading your reply im now re-committed... im buying one this week. and youre right; it is a mossy so its gotta be well made. thanks man!

  • @cbr6864 i couldve sworn i replied already i dont know where the hell my response went lol. but thank you... i was thinking of picking one up but a friend of mine told me a friend of his had heard that there was plastic parts, but he wasnt sure, so my friend wasnt sure, so i wasnt sure. when you confirmed it it kinda got me worried. but youre right... its a mossy so its gotta be well made. you just re-committed me. im getting mine this week :)

  • my 88 kicks like a motherr fuucker!!! 28 inch mod.

  • YOU DONT USE A SHORT BARREL SHOTGUN FOR HUNTING

  • Scopes on shotguns are stupid anyways.

  • Hey great video, very informative. I have recently purchased the maverick 88 a few days ago with this being my first every shotgun owned. I went with a shotgun because I saw it as a good versatile weapon and I was looking to shoot clays with it. Now I know you made the observation that you felt it wasn't necessarily the best gun for skeet. So do you think I made the wrong decision here?

  • @Haymaker756 I personally didn't see it as a good trap gun, but I only went trap shooting once, and didn't use that gun. Other people have commented in the past that they used it without any problems.

  • @Haymaker756 I love mine! I have killed three deer with it and was the first gun I ever got on my 13th birthday wrapped under the Christmas tree! I have a rifled slug barrel for mine pretty accurate gun! Very versatile gun, if you want to skeet go get you a nice browning over and under like I have : ) I love it and it an excellent skeet gun!

  • @Haymaker756 Your decision is fine dude. It's a great gun.

  • @Haymaker756 i went clay shooting with mine and had no problems at all. it's a pretty good shotgun for the money.

  • its a nice gun and a good price but hows the kick is the pad absorbant or just plastic? ohhh and does the slide wiggel?

  • @gravedigr12 It's a rubber pad and seem decent. I don't have a good idea of how the recoil compares to other shotguns. I have one other shotgun, which I have only fired once, and I can only use buckshot at the current place I'm shooting at. The forearm does wiggle around a lot.

  • its a nice gun and a good price but hows the kick is the pad absorbant or just plastic?

  • good review very informative im looking to buy my first gun and it looks like this will be it

  • also the maverick does'nt have sling studs :(

not a big deal but i hate it when guns dont come with studs.

i did'nt know about the receiver not being tapped though.. that kind sucks :(

one last thing i believe the warranty on the 500/590's are 10 years.. the maverick is only 1 year :(

although i hear Mossberg is really good about fixing stuff even when it's out of warranty.. although i dont know if that carries over to the Maverick brand.

  • I have the mossberg maverick 88 with the vent-rib 28" barrel, can i use this for dove hunting???

  • @TheKoiExpert yes, i dont know where this kid got this shotgun but this one is a little bit harder to find, that is you cant walk into main stream stores and find it. as well i dont know why he bought a mossberg when he has a beneli, tom knapp rip 12 rounds into him,i am ranting, sorry. now i have the same shotgun as you, it never let me down. the gun he has is meant by mossberg to be customized for tactical use. yours is a hunting gun.

    -travis

  • cant go wrong with a mossy. 590 owner :]

  • I have a 500 I bought new a few months ago for $207 im getting a used maverick so I can have an hd gun with out messing out my sexy 500

  • yeah man i'm buying this gun tomorrow. great review

  • went and put 75 rounds through it yesterday shooting trap,,,love it!!

  • $180 at walmart

  • great review. thanks!

  • the slide does come off actually......get your info right man

  • I just bought a Maverick 88. Mine came with a 28" barrel and has 2 sights

  • at the beginning u said it was us parts shipped to mexico to be assembled. at the end u changed it. get ur facts straight?

  • There is no front or rear sights at all on the 88?

  • @JoeDurobot .there are 2 bead sights on the gun,,at least on mine there is

  • I just bought one of these and it has a 27.5 inch barrel. It's actually pretty good for skeet shooting.

  • In AL at Academy Sports I'm getting one for Christmas brand-new, only $165. $225? That's more than going ahead and getting the Mossberg 500 her in AL at Academy Sports (Mossberg 500, only $209, also $209 at Wal-mart.)

  • i just bought one its my first shotgun, i was always borowing one, but mine has a 28 inch barrel, i paid $320 after taxes thats a canadian price where i live, i looked in cabelas and they it for 219 plus taxes and shipping so i think it would be about the same in the end. bird season starts in two weeks so im pretty excited to have a new shotgun thats mine so im glad you gave it a good review

  • I got mine for 100 dollars. Yay pawn shops! Huzzah!

  • thats the tactical version theres a field version that works much better for hunting

  • the tacstar sidesaddle for the mossberg 500 will fit on the maverick 88 i recently added one to my maverick best 30 bucks i ever spent

  • Saftey is the key reason why I like the "88" over many of the other mainstream shotguns. 870 may be more popular but I like the saftey being forward of the trigger. Also, I beleve the Mossy 500 barrel slides right into the "88" so it is possible to get a longer barrel for this gun.

  • I got this gun from WalMart in 20 gauge. For some reason my fore arm is different from yours and even the slides seem thinner. I don't know if its because of Walmart but I have heard of Mart Guns which I didn't know prior to buying although I did get it for $177 flat.

  • My mav 88 came just like that, but my barrel is like 9 inches longer than that.

  • @warofrazors999 It's a 28" barrel. I just bought one a few days ago, and hope to go shoot it this weekend.

  • What about shells older on the side of the gun?

Can you use a model made for the 500?

  • @JoeDurobot I don't know how those attach, so I'm not sure if the 500 shell holders will work on the Maverick 88.

  • @JoeDurobot youd have to check on the model holder it will tell you what it fits, but most stuff that fits 500 will fit the 88. i know ATI makes alot of stuff for it.

  • @JoeDurobot should work

  • @JoeDurobot ..it should fit the side shell holder attatches in the location of the breakdown pin,,,you might want to ask the company you are thinking of ordering frrom,,just ask, cant hurt. good luck

  • forend grip on 500a is same as yours. You can get a great rubber grip for it that will prvent slips.

  • I like it but prefer the mossberg 500a. more rounds 8+1 or 7+1 3inch and not heave at all. I went through 2500 rounds with mine and never a problem. I like my ak but my mossberg is my favorite. The safety on mine is on top and I think it is easier to engage or disengage.

  • excellent job on the review.hey,thebuttler456,how is that racist,i think blacks are excellent at sports.am I racist too? Negative. WTF

  • Walmarts got it cheaper!! got mine brand new 12 gauge for 189 !!!

  • 2 things ur racist and i once got 8 clays in a row while trap shooting with tht gun its amazing for trap shooting

  • @thebuttler456 nigger

  • @thebuttler456 god you are stupid. the gun he has can only carry 5+1. AND YOUR FULL OF SHIT

  • @mossbergvsworld and i realoded damn

  • even though i didn't pay for it, i just got this same gun & the tag was $279, so yeah, good deal. :)

  • lol you dont think MexicAnS do a bad job... GOod one!!!!

  • i love mine its my first pump shotgun

  • i just bought one at gun show and i it had a lazer mount and i only paid 150 cash!!!

  • About the scope, I have a Maverick 88 12 Gauge and I found a weaver scope mount at Wal-Mart actually, that actually requires no gunsmithing and it works very well, it's called "Weaver Universal Shotgun Scope Mount" or something very close to that, I would definately reccomend it to anyone wanting a scope on their Maverick, great review btw!

  • i bought a maverick 88 shotgun for $175 brand new..its also a 20 gauge.

  • is the 88 a good hog gun

  • HEY VINNIE!!

  • i have the same one with a bird hunting barrel

  • just bought one of these, $187 at walmart in IA. Had to get display model though (only one left). has a nice design and make (material wise). good for lefties to (yes i am one)

  • you can buy a Maverick 88 for $157 down here in Mississippi

  • your right its made in america and assembled in mexico. But when you said its not good for trap shooting my brother is one of the best on the team with this gun but ours came with field barrels.

  • would u recomend it for hog

  • Just got one myself. Was looking at Remington 870's and Mossy 500/590, tries them all out, and likes the feel of the Maverick (20" 12ga).

I went in expecting to spend $500+ that day, and was delighted when I walked out having paid half that.

The safety on mine is a bit tight, but I expect it will loosen up in time. The pump action is very smooth though, and I love the location of the slide release.

I want a Mossberg 590A1 at some point, but I think the Mav 88 will be just fine till then.

  • It is put together by Hector during the day, at night Hector builds the parts across the border. Hector has 17 kids to feed.

  • Do these come in 20 gauge?

  • Can you put a pistol grip on this legally?

  • @XandeRToXic pistol grips don't change the legallity of the gun. It's only how long the gun is that makes a shot gun legal or illegal. Now with that said. I don't sugest it. looks cool but it's harder to control and your aim sucks with the pistol grip. now you can get a folding stock that gives you options while using it.

  • MINE was225 in dallas texas. actually we took it to shoot skeet this weekend and it performed really well. i hit 21 out of 25. it was also the first shotgun my wife has shot, she hit a few as well. love it! i may buy pistol grip and fold out stock :)

  • i have the same gun, i love it its a great gun, but down here in the south in Georgia i paid 150 brand new

  • Great review!

  • Weaveroptics sells some scope mounts that fit the Mossberg 500

For scopes I'm not sure if it will fit on the Maverick but the Maverick and the Mossberg 500 are similar in build so in theory it should work, so there's your scope mount.

  • @gr0ggz BTW I bought mine in Alaska for 195$ at Walmart.

  • Academy Sports in Texas: $189.00.............

  • i have the maverick 88 and i bout it used but in very good condition... i paid $124

  • $225? I live in los angeles,ca and I paid $349 for the 88 8 shot. and you say jersey's expensive.......

  • mine only cost $ 209

  • it is a great skeet or trap gun. i'm on my school trap/skeet team and me and a few other people use one. GREAT GUN

  • I am getting this shotgun but the barrel is 28 inches. It is only $157.00. That is an awesome deal for a gun that shoots pretty freaking good.

  • Some come with Shoulder stock AND a Pistol grip too. I called Walmart here in west Texas and the guy told me NO it does NOT come with a pistol grip. Does anyone know what the truth is about this? Thanks

  • my model 88 has a way ongs barel than that... same exact gun it just looks like he sawed his barel of and hes right it works great forome deffence iv used it trust me

  • i dont u but my 88 has a low requill n i love it to death, its nice cuz u can put a game barrel on and it shoots like a dream but this person doesnt know what hes talkin about but thats my own humble opinion

  • i dont know where you got that but my m88 is way heavier and my stock is way longer

  • $225? they have it at walmart for $157 lol. and they have the mossberg 500 for $207

  • @invaderzim908 Guns are always different prices at different states and in between cities and rural areas. He may not have a walmart that sells guns. Ever think of that? In my city there is a pawn shop ripping people off with that same model selling it new with a pistol grip for $299. So he paid around average. Not everyone has the luxury of getting a gun from walmart.

  • @invaderzim908 How recently? Were are you in the US?

  • im in Arkansas and i saw that price last time i went, which i go like every 4-5 days and the price is always the same.

  • @invaderzim908 I have to check around here(Virginia). I've only checked on Gunbroker, they seem to be around 200 but after shipping and fees it's a good bit more. Good video swiftcoyote!(might have already said that...)

  • i have a a maverick 88 and there are some diffrences from mine and yours, one mine has a 28 modified fixed choke barrel. ALso mine DOES have the taps on top for a rail for a scope or sight. The only real diffrences between the 2 guns is the sight is in a diffrent place and the for arm is all one molded place. To be honost your gun is the first and only mav 88 i have seen that did NOT have the tapped holes up on top. Just so you know all mossy 500 barrels are interchangable with a maverick 88.

  • I said Sight I meant safety, my bad.

  • Just so you know, the Maverick is made in Eagle Pass, Texas. It's its own company that is a second line for Mossberg.

  • From what I understand many or all of the parts are made in Mexico, then assembled in the US.

  • @swiftcoyote only certain parts are MIM.....

  • yes your right its a subcompony of Mossberg, the mav 88 was based right off the 500 and there are alot of parts that are interchangable. I bought a rifled 24 inch barrel for my maverick 88, it was actually for a mossy 500 but went strait onto my gun.

  • @ahmose313 made in texas buddy.

  • @LuvFallout Bearly,through a rock

  • i bought a m88 from walmart here in ky. it cost me $178.00,its a 20 ga.,witha a 26 in. v.r. barrel,i hate the forend ,it wobbles way too much,a lot more than my 870 12 ga express mag. im thinking about another one in 12 ga. but i need to know if the forend shown in this review wobbles as much as the ones on the 20 ga. iv got like 8 guns and im gonna buy some ,more cheepo guns, their fun and i love em.

  • is that the youth addition cause i have one and its way longer
