I think back to my youth. This song was new when I was young, it still effects me the same way as it did then. Nothing but memories when listening to this. I will remember this song , long after Saturdays gone.
@michaelheintz1833 Great Comment! Nothing but pleasant memories listening to this song. Gives me a good feeling and some nice happy tears thinking about this song and my childhood. I think the day after tomorrow I'll be listening to this song. Yep, I'll be listening to this song Come Saturday Morning.
@hudsondg This is a guess, and I'm probably wrong, but I'm guessing the picture/painting at 1:07 is possibly an album cover (front or back) or a 45 RPM cover (front or back). Again, it's a guess based on the other pictures. If you find out for sure, let me know.
@hudsondg Actually, I haven't a clue about the picture at 1:07, but I do like it, as well. Use google images and plug in "saturday morning" and see if it shows up--that's probably what I did. That might have been part of the title, because there's nothing about it visually that indicates it has anything to do with Saturday morning.
This is one of my favorite songs. It's endearing .loving, sad and an complex at times. It's a rich tapestry of feelings from both sides, trying to make a relationship work, but for various reasons, its not meant to be.This song"Come Saturday Morning",was the theme of the Movie,(also,a favorite of mine),"The Sterile Coo Coo".It stands as a testiment to a wonderful group The Sandpipers, and an equally wonderful movie.Thank you for posting this.~~~~
I love this song..It reminds me of my wonderful years while I was growing up in "Paradise"..Miami Florida..at the beaches with no cares in the world...
I am now 67 yrs old and at least have some beautiful memories of those Saturdays at the beach and the very nostalgic happenings..that can never be replaced ...
In the early 70's, while in college, I visited this friend. I was leaving soon for Norway. She wanted me to hear this song. We talked into the night. As I was leaving she handed me a poem she had just written. I read it outside her home, in part it read, .." While under Danish skies, I'll remember when you slayed all my dragons." It really made me pause & wonder. God how I wish I could remember your name, but I never forgot you, dear Princess
@ed917751 Same here. And wouldn't trade having grown up during the late 60s / early to mid 70s for anything in the world. I really feel sorry for younger people who were too young to have remembered, or for those who weren't born yet.

Another song of my young adulthood. Back then, the sun was brighter, times were more fun, love was deeper, people laughed more, and the sex....well, much, much better. God, getting old sucks.
@motorcityquig This is just sad...sex better? Dude..you musta married the wrong gal..just sayin'...I am 53..been married for 32 years and the sex is STILL amazing..so sorry.
The movie was among the saddest I've seen, yet my life seems built around it. The song was key to the mood of the movie and started me enjoying The Sandpipers immensely.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs. It is a song that marks the end of one decade and the beginning of a new one. What month did this song come out in 1969?
@Sandiforty Yes, the strings alone are great and they are a fantastic addition to so much of the good old music that is few and far between nowadays. I am 52 and really miss this stuff.
@Sandiforty The instruments are beautiful. They're so clean, clear and pure. You can hear each one, and they all seem to want to take you into a nice Saturday morning.
Beautiful, sort of sophomoric songs but his its moments....but in the same context, it brings back some wonderful memories....I saw this at the drive-in in Central PA....thanks, Cross Keys !!!! (the drive in)....
Critically, this is a sappy song. But, for 1969's "The Sterile Cuckoo", it is was surprisingly right and effective. It's a most underrated movie as was Wendell Burton's performance as Jerry. Liza Minnelli deserved all the praise she received as the sad/funny/likable/pathetic main character. It's unfortunate that the movie is not available on DVD. Why did Minnelli not win the Oscar this year: Maggie Smith won for "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". Often, it's all about the timing.
@jckfmsincty I like how you said "Often, it's about the timing". I think it's interesting to note that Judy Garland didn't win an oscar in 1939 for "The Wizard of Oz", but Vivian Leigh won the oscar for "Gone with the Wind". This is just speculation on my part, but had 'Gone' been made another year, Judy "probably" would have won the oscar, but I could be wrong. Speaking as a liberal, the left is not monolithic. I abhor the human rights abuses in North Korea and China, as well as many other places. Could the U.S. intervene in North Korea? Not as long as they have nukes and a crazy leader and are protected by China who own most of our debt and have nukes of their own. I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do.
in the midst of viet nam , race riots , leaders being murdered - this simple but elegant song comes along . i remember it like yesterday and it still has the same effect...................
What a pretty song..Cessna aircraft company used this song in a series of tv commercials to get people to sign up for flying lessons.I believe that they were very successful with it.nonehteless,a very pretty song that brings back many good memories.......
What a breathtakingly beautiful song. Filled with nostalgia, but it feels that way even when you hear it for the very first time. That, according to the great Jimmy Webb, is what great songs do. They sound as if they were always there.
@takfam07 Very well said! That's an excellent comment! This is a breathtakingly beautiful song, and I always come back to this song because it reminds me of my childhood, and it is filled with nostalgia!
The negative entities that run the world do not want these types of melodic messages circulating the air waves. They want dumbed down message free anti-music playing. They had not secured the communication systems of the country at that time and there was still truth being told back then amidst the melodies. Part of Nixon taking us off the gold standard was so they could create money to give to the ruling class so they could further consolidate power. Hard to do that with sound money.
@rustyboy0262 Thank you! I do like that song! I've heard "Stranger on the Shore" since I was a kid, but I never knew the name of the song or the artist, but it's a beautiful song, and I just finished listening to it. You can hear the beautiful orchestra in the background. I'll bet you would like "Love is Blue" by Paul Mauriat which I'm sure you're probably familiar with. These songs take me back to a very simple and nice childhood where there was a lot of beautiful music on the radio then.
I still remember cute little Jamie Vincent with her freckles and infectious smile, briskly riding her horse up Granite Creek Road, her long blond hair laughing at the wind
I marvel at how the best songs from this era have their own indelible feeling and atmosphere. Each song was unique unto itself, forever occupying a special place in your mind, a special little part of the rest of your life. "Come Saturday Morning" by the Sandpipers is no exception. Especially compared to the crap playing on the Top 40 radio stations today, this song seems even better with the passage of time.
swansea69 - My first year in uni - a beautiful college on Swansea bay - my first steady girlfriend - and this was the song I sang to myself in the library - just so glad I have those memories.
So soothing,peaceful,dreamy,romantic...could listen to this driving down on Pacific Coast highway driving in a convertible on nice cool summer night with the love of my life next to me....
Can this be the most nostalgia evoking song ever? That music, the never to be forgotten lyrics, they are for ever in my psyche. Saturday morning football and cricket, TC's sound lounge in Elizabeth Street, Brisbane...it was great fun !
I just seen a clip of The Sterile Cuckoo, and the song, Come Saturday Morning is very moving. There is a certain light hearted emotion that prevails through the movie which was captured in this song. Thank you for having this song available.
How many other countries is North korea conducting a war in? and there's always "some" reason by people who claim a higher moral ground. Have you seen anything of North Korea beyond what a media controlled by U.S. gay hating military.?
You didn't respond to my last response to you, so I'm reposting it. You said that peace isn't won, it just is. And I said, "Right, peace just is. Tell that to the people of North Korea who live in what amounts to a concentration camp. I'm sure they're thrilled with their 'peace.'" You don't really give a shit about others' suffering, do you?
@harponercam Right, peace just is. Tell that to the people of North Korea who live in what amounts to a concentration camp. I'm sure they're thrilled with their "peace."
I am proud that I served in Vietnam. My comment about how we felt while watching the movie was our feelings at that time and place. A lot of our friends were in college at that time also. We were just young and very scared and wished we were someplace else. Those feelings have not diminished my pride in the job I did while serving there. Thank you for your kind words. They are very much appreciated.
Saw the movie Sterile Cuckoo while I was in Vietnam. Somehow we got a copy of it and they showed it against a building with a large white sheet or cloth. All I remember is most of us were speechless and a few were crying. That is where we wanted to be. At the college with everyone else our age. This song brings back those bittersweet memories. Thank you so much for putting it on Youtube. I have put it as one my favorites. Along with the movie, of course.
@elcamman50 Thank you, not only for your comments, but for serving in Vietnam. Regardless of your feelings about that war or how you ended up there, be assured that there are those of us who feel that it was not in vain--that we were close to winning and were sabotaged by the left, and that fighting evil is noble and deserving of honor.
@MrTrashcan1 How right you are my friend - Due to the none stop carpet bombing by our B52's the Viet Cong were looking at surrender options. We backed off only to let the war continue. Always the left - The govern from a point of weakness when they should listen to what my Roman ancestors said - Si vis pacem, para bellum "If you wish for peace, prepare for war"
@mikeg1060 Thanks for the nice words. The song is awesome and I still love listening to it to this day. Another of our favorites over there was "The Letter" from The Boxtops. Though short, It was a favorite of all of ours. Probably had something to do with "get me a ticket on a fast plane, got to see my baby again". Though I did get a Dear John letter while I was there (lol). Thanks again for the kind words.
@elcamman50 I was about 3 years old when this came out - But I want to tell you thank you with all of my heart for putting your ass on the line for our freedom. You are truly a hero along with all other Vietnam Vets!! God Bless you!!!!!!!
@elcamman50 Such a peaceful and pretty song. Thanks for your recollections and insights. My oldest brother was serving in the Army as a Platoon Leader in Viet Nam during that time, he led an attack during the TET offensive and came back wounded.
@music4healings Thank you for the kind words. I am sorry your brother had to suffer so. I went over a year after TET (Jan 1969). I was stationed at Bien Hoa and also at Xuan Loc. I was assigned to a unit that did artillery and air strike observation. After that I was stationed in northern Thailand to observe movement on the Ho Chi Minh trail. Lots of fun for everyone (lol). Thanks again for sharing your life with me. Charlie
@yourdickis2limp You're right about the slimebag politicians who turned Vietnam from a noble effort to save the South Vietnamese from communism into an obscene, bloody waste. But as much as I love America, I have to say that the American people share much of the blame. In the 1960's, and to this day, the "silent majority" was silent because it was too busy enjoying the good life to give much thought to what was going on in Vietnam. As a result, our finest young men paid a horrific price.
@elcamman50 What a visual, Thankyou for your service. R.I.P to all your Fallen Brothers.I remember reading somewhere that during the "3 days of Peace Love and Music" at Woodstock, 155 of America's Finest Youth would never return. God Bless Them.
@elcamman50 Thanks for your service in Vietnam.I missed it by a whisker, went into the Marines in the summer of '75.My son,Joshua, however, was a Special Forces Medic who did six and a half years in Uncle's Green Machine and did two tours in Iraq.Glad as hell that he is out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@elcamman50 But you if you were back in states, you wouldn't have been at college. Because if you had been college students, you wouldn't have been drafted in the first place. Unless possibly you specifically chose not to go to college, and are saying that you were regretting that decision as you watched the film.
@rb62470 I was the only one of my friends who didn't go on to college at that time. I actually enlisted. Not all of us at that time were ready for college. My family had a history of military service dating back to the revolutionary war. It was expected of you. Watch Born on the Fourth of July. That is the way it was on Long Island during the time I was raised. I don't regret going. Went to college on the GI Bill when I returned. Thanks for commenting.
This song is so beautiful that I do not why a voice like Andrea Bocelli does not make a cover with the same arrangement. Sandpipers was a vocal group that always expanded horizons into the music, they even saw the potential of latin and brazilian music. The problem with new generations is that they need to be educated about what have really happened during more than 50 years in music seriously, otherwise, this country will continue being having cartoon idols like Kate Perry, and Jonas.
Nice way to begin Saturday morning October 23, 2010...rain outside, mid fifities....Badgers get to play with the Hawkeyes this afternoon...or should I say battle Iowa....lower expectations give rise to fewer Concussions...so .....sad., sort of.
This is awesome - the video and the music. Real Music. I actually have run into one of the Sandpipers and his voice is still strong, beautiful and what a great entertainer STILL!.
This song has always, and will always, make me think of football Saturdays with my family. From the time I was a teenager, our family had season tickets for Michigan football games. Saturdays were big productions: tailgating, football, and lots of family fun!
This is an awesome song...so why the political crap going on this site? This is an homage to a great song (and by the way a great movie) When can we finally leave the political and religious crap out and just enjoy the music?
@Jim382 Jim, no one is stopping you from listening to the music, and no one is forcing you to read the comments. This is my channel and I choose to allow discussion, even if it drifts from the subject of the music.
@MrTrashcan1 Sorry buddy. I didn't mean to offend. I just wanted to thank you for posting this song. Just reliving my childhood and fond memories thanks to the music you're posting.
@MrTrashcan1 This is great, the video and especially the music. It is beautiful, understandable and easy to listen to. I recently ran into one of the Sandpipers and he still has an incredible voice, is a fabulous entertainer and an all around nice guy. Thank you for posting their stuff.

@MrTrashcan1 I am 50 and think most of us here want to relive our childhood, I had such a magical one. I thank God for my parents, we did not have a lot of money, and I did know even know we did not.. until I got older.. But money does NOT make you happy... I would not trade my childhood for anything. Thanks for posting and letting me go down memory lane...blessings to all.
I was born in 68 so I was too young to remember this song when in came out. But there use to be a big band/pop station in the 90's that played this music in the San Francisco Area called either Magic 61 or KABL. They also played Ella, Dean, Frank and Sammy with Herb Alpert, Brasil 66, etc. it was a good mix. Sadly Air America bought. There's one oldies/rock n roll station, but they rarely play this type of music. Thanks Mr Trashcan for putting this song up.
reminds me of when I was a little kid..........1969....long ago....and it made me think of staying with my grandparent and playing on the swing set they had bought me.
Hey everybody, Eminem, had a new CD come out recently. Hurry out and get it. It's full of positive messages and if you listen to it long enough you can actually recreate the childhood feeling of someone dragging their fingernails across a blackboard.......
@blabblab1212 Yeah...dragging fingernails across a blackboard is usually considered to be an unpleasant thing to hear...but to each his own...I enjoy Eminem's music, but excuse me if I also enjoy the other artists you listed as well...depends on what kind of mood I am in... I am encouraged that at least you knew their names...I suspect that your parents were music lovers as well... Peace, friend...
@fab4fan4ever64 You missed the point entirely. I am older and I was being facetious. I am quite knowledgable about the other artists. I wasn't putting down the other artists listed......I was putting down Eminem.
@blabblab1212 Wow... I sure did miss your point... I can see now that you were being humorous...You know, I did wonder why you had come to this video site in the first place... geez... I must need a nap... but I thought you were a kid, and they like all kinds of weird stuff... and some of their screen names are ghastly... Have an excellent weekend...Peace, friend...
@blabblab1212 I was 9 in 1969 and was my best summer. My dad got a new 1969 Pontiac Bonneville, with a stereo. We went to Six flags over Texas, The war was going on, and the Tate murders were the down side of Summer of 69..I remember this song playing and having speakers in the back seat. I thought we were rich, far from it, but a lot of love.
Why listen to this crap when you can listen to fine hip-hop rap type music? Listening to this you can see how music has progressed into the fine popular music we have today.
This is just wonderful, thanks! I was 9 yrs of age when this came out. Remember "Feelin' Groovy?" As you've said, a lot of great music that year . . .I love the movie "The Sterile Cuckoo." Quirky and poignant.
I think back to my youth. This song was new when I was young, it still effects me the same way as it did then. Nothing but memories when listening to this. I will remember this song , long after Saturdays gone.

What a breathtakingly beautiful song. Filled with nostalgia, but it feels that way even when you hear it for the very first time. That, according to the great Jimmy Webb, is what great songs do. They sound as if they were always there.

@Beautifulmusiclistnr If you like this listen to Acker Bilks 'Stranger on The Shore'.
rustyboy0262 6 months ago
@rustyboy0262 Thank you! I do like that song! I've heard "Stranger on the Shore" since I was a kid, but I never knew the name of the song or the artist, but it's a beautiful song, and I just finished listening to it. You can hear the beautiful orchestra in the background. I'll bet you would like "Love is Blue" by Paul Mauriat which I'm sure you're probably familiar with. These songs take me back to a very simple and nice childhood where there was a lot of beautiful music on the radio then.

How many other countries is North korea conducting a war in? and there's always "some" reason by people who claim a higher moral ground. Have you seen anything of North Korea beyond what a media controlled by U.S. gay hating military.?
harponercam 5 months ago
You didn't respond to my last response to you, so I'm reposting it. You said that peace isn't won, it just is. And I said, "Right, peace just is. Tell that to the people of North Korea who live in what amounts to a concentration camp. I'm sure they're thrilled with their 'peace.'" You don't really give a shit about others' suffering, do you?

I am proud that I served in Vietnam. My comment about how we felt while watching the movie was our feelings at that time and place. A lot of our friends were in college at that time also. We were just young and very scared and wished we were someplace else. Those feelings have not diminished my pride in the job I did while serving there. Thank you for your kind words. They are very much appreciated.
elcamman50 1 year ago
Saw the movie Sterile Cuckoo while I was in Vietnam. Somehow we got a copy of it and they showed it against a building with a large white sheet or cloth. All I remember is most of us were speechless and a few were crying. That is where we wanted to be. At the college with everyone else our age. This song brings back those bittersweet memories. Thank you so much for putting it on Youtube. I have put it as one my favorites. Along with the movie, of course.
elcamman50 1 year ago 29
@elcamman50 Thank you, not only for your comments, but for serving in Vietnam. Regardless of your feelings about that war or how you ended up there, be assured that there are those of us who feel that it was not in vain--that we were close to winning and were sabotaged by the left, and that fighting evil is noble and deserving of honor.
MrTrashcan1 1 year ago 2
@MrTrashcan1 How right you are my friend - Due to the none stop carpet bombing by our B52's the Viet Cong were looking at surrender options. We backed off only to let the war continue. Always the left - The govern from a point of weakness when they should listen to what my Roman ancestors said - Si vis pacem, para bellum "If you wish for peace, prepare for war"

@elcamman50 Vietnam vets were suckers for LBJ,Nixon and the crooks who ran America into the whorehouse of the universe.
yourdickis2limp 1 year ago
@yourdickis2limp You're right about the slimebag politicians who turned Vietnam from a noble effort to save the South Vietnamese from communism into an obscene, bloody waste. But as much as I love America, I have to say that the American people share much of the blame. In the 1960's, and to this day, the "silent majority" was silent because it was too busy enjoying the good life to give much thought to what was going on in Vietnam. As a result, our finest young men paid a horrific price.

@elcamman50 But you if you were back in states, you wouldn't have been at college. Because if you had been college students, you wouldn't have been drafted in the first place. Unless possibly you specifically chose not to go to college, and are saying that you were regretting that decision as you watched the film.
rb62470 7 months ago
