  • Yes thanks for uploading this. But I suggest you fix the audio/video out of sync issue and re-upload it.

Poor Mick Jones is standing all alone while Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon are all buddy buddy. This was the last real Clash show, before Joe Strummer put out complete (cut the) crap.

  • why do people get mad when bands like the clash make money? Who else should get it? U2?

  • I might be wrong but the bloke called Mick Jones seems the the best prototype of a phenomenon some call God.

  • This video is amazing, this song is amazing. If someone could re-edit the sound and video, and add the whole speech of Mick about Microchip America vs. East LA, that would be awesome. Thank you for this.

  • Does anyone else think that during the whole US Festival show it looks like two guys that absolutely hate each other in Mick and Joe?

  • Too bad The Clash was all about Joe all the time.

  • too bad this video/sound is out of synch

  • I've been very angry but not enough to kill...well done boys... superb band...great music and lyrics..

  • @TheYounque it's hungry not angry Bro....And you're minding your own business

    Carrying spare change

    You wouldn't cosh a barber

    You're hungry all the same

    I been very tempted

To grab it from the till

    I been very hungry

    But not enough to kill

  • @fattirevsbud the clash were hungry but I personally was angry. it's a pun, playing with words. thank you all the same and enjoy the clash,my favourite ever.

  • Blessed the people that saw they...

  • They are all Top Shelf....thats what made them so fucking good...collective!

  • sure mick is tha clash he has it!!!!

  • God I love the Clash so much. Brings a tear to my eye. I never got to see them as a whole, but I caught Joe Strummer and the Mescalleros years ago, just before he died. Rest in peace Joe, thank you and the rest of the lads for all the great music and for always standing up for what was right. You've taught me a lot.

  • Tbf Howards a good drummer but nothing beats Topper

  • i might cosh a barber...

  • Check them out in the beginning looking for more excuses to yell at the drummer...

  • Remember the NME review of give em enough rope and it said "Mick Jones cant sing for toffee" about stay free, I think this prooves them wrong.. worse than that the review in Iinternational Musician of the 1st album said something like "mindless headbangers go to the top floor"....Well what can I say apart from NO TOPPER ON THIS BOOOO !!!!!!

  • ok, i got it, after a month of searching ive found out that the guitar is a bond.

  • is it a melody maker?

  • Paul doesn't use a pick

  • @Salo70 does dee dee ramone?

  • on Jones, I like his singing face n playing expressions, Jones moves, man are hot

  • The audio was really off on mine for some reason.... It cut out at 5:09.... Really weird to see Joe screaming "FOR FUCK'S SAAAAAAKE" with no noise....

  • who is that drumming?

  • @patinovideo In case no one has answered you yet, that's Pete Howard on drums.

  • what kind of guitar is mick using

  • @PBANDSNOW i think ita a les pual junior....

  • I understand your hatred for technology Joe...but.... I would have never heard or seen you live if not for it... I - no - we all miss Mr Strummer.

  • comment like that really piss me off, bands are not one person, like Robert Smith and The Cure, BS,. all of the guys in the Clash made that band the greats that are and always will be.

  • +JVA+

  • "Somebody's dead forever... Goodbye for keeps, FOREVER ☹..."

    FUNBPD

  • I understand what buderick23 is saying, but it was just them two who made the band it was paul simonon aswell and the few drummers thay had. !!! But anyways GO THE CLASH!!!

  • Perfect band. I am always in awe of them.

  • I've heard of van halen; not so much of the Clash minus DLR's mention if them.

  • I didnt notice at parts that the video was out of sync until it shows Toper wailing on the drums at one of the solos

  • I was there!!!

  • if you watch the opening of this gig (`london calling` ,comments disabled) you can see how pissed of strummer was with the band .still seems a great gig tho`.

  • I was at this show as well. Just the 1 day, I couldn't be bothered seeing the next 2 days. Smoggy as hell in Devore.

The english beat were also fantastic.

  • I think I agree with you... You know David Lee Roth hated The Clash - jealousy, I guess...

  • I was working for an L.A. radio station that was broadcasting live from the event; KLOS FM... I arrived at the event with station personnel the night before the festival opened and stayed until the festival closed... What a great time and incredible performances...

  • this is out of sync isnt it

  • so are you partner!

  • You make, you buy, you die. That's the motto of America!

  • I was at this show too! I attended the whole festival...

  • the greatest..

  • Comment removed

  • You can clearly see Joe and Paul deciding to fire Mick at 0.11

  • and how would you know? you mates with em?

regardless, this IS full on and beautiful!

  • @pykkervots bastards...i love em but, bastards

  • 1.) The Clash had NO CONTRACT to play the US Festival, and therefore tried to extort in refusal to play US Fest billionaire Wozniak into donating merely some--10 or 20% of the profits to charity (this at a Festival charging $2 for a beer in 83). The US Festival in 83 cleared huge profits, making up the supposed loss of '82.

In any case, their motive was noble, and US Festival greed is such that they cannot even issue the musical performances to this day. Piggery inc.

  • they 'held out' for money which they then immdietly gave to young latino youths on the LA streets to pay for education and extra-curricular schemes...they even put pressure on the other bands performing to donate some cashish...

Jonesy=Legend! he was the brain and Joe was the heart to the Clash

  • Joe was the brain and heart. Mick was the music genius. Best duo music has ever seen.

  • Mick Jones you are so fucking great...!!

Everybody respects Joe, but everybody knows that you were the soul and the mind of the clash..!!!

  • Great memories! Thanks for posting this!!

  • what fucking great duet

  • que grande joe

  • I was there. Amazing three days. The Clash actually held out headlining day one since Van Halen were being paid more for day two. They waited over an hour until they were paid equal.

  • how petty. how bourgeois. how unworthy of the clash. (the "holding out" by the group, i mean.) both groups were probably VERY overpaid. (probably paid, per member, more for a concert or two than most working class americans make in a year.)

  • Research before you post. While The Clash did hold out and were paid the most by the promoter, they proceeded to donate their entire fee as they often did. When every other band was selling records at record company insisted pricing The Clash sold theirs for half the price. While Metallica cries foul about illegal downloading and not being paid Mick Jones makes all his material available free for download.

  • very admirable of the clash to slash the prices of their albums. very admirable of mick jones to make his music available for free. but holding out for more money, even if one "donates" one's fee....is still a petite bourgeois kind of gesture. the problem with capitalism today is that some people are OVERPAID while others are UNDERPAID. i don't think the us festival made money. had the promoters NOT overpaid their performers, "us" may have at least broken even....

  • The Clash did not hold out for more money, they held out to get their money. The idea of the festival was noble but not well executed and the ticket prices were considered very high at the time. Capitalism had nothing to do with it, the promoters were trying to make money and failed miserably. While our society s not perfect I will gladly take it over socialism or despotism any day of the week. At the very least we can complain about it and not be strung up.

  • i guess i hold the clash up to a higher standard. they were the group with ideals, so they should have lived up to them. perhaps the clash should have gone on UNpaid and waited until the end of the year before getting their lawyers to dun the "us" executives for their fee. (i MEAN it, man. one of the problems with capitalism is the opportunistic attitude that it breeds. the sense of entitlement.)

  • Sense of entitlement? How about a sense of entitlement when you're required by the government to accept a set fee for a certain service. At least with a free market you can ask for higher fee, or in this case, equal price for your services as others providing the same service (ie entertainment).

  • The evil Steve Jobs at work.

  • I believe the Clash wanted more money so that they could donate the cash to charity. Rather have poor people who need the money get it as opposed to rich concert promoters keeping it right? Van Halen probably spent all their cash on hairspray.

  • thank god for video tape.

  • Mick Jones rips the stage apart, yeah, if this was his last show with the Clash, he went out with a blast!!! Long live the Clash

  • real music by real people for real people..if you don't get it.. good..

  • MJ love you.

  • "Listen to Mick's guitar at the beginning. F***ing bone chilling... "

yes its great -- love it -- I was there and this was one of the best songs they did!

  • very well!!! THE CLASH FOR EVER

    from SPAIN

  • crazy introduction punm...

  • It's so sad that this was his last gig with The Clash :-(

  • In my opinion the 3 best live bands:

The Clash, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin.

  • Hey, I see this video everyday... It makes me happy inside...makes me fell very well! I don't know why..but... :D

  • Not everyday but almost twice a week for me.

  • I wanted to see it before going to sleep. It's done....

Good night to all clash fans.

    ...

Fuck, it was the show with Mick. Not the least.

  • awesome

  • Mick...I´ll wait all my life for you, but i dont give up, i´ll meet you! I'LL MAKE EVERYTHING FOR YOU

  • you make you buy you die, thats the motto of America .....oh Joe you are a prophet. Fucking consumer society rife with fear and hate .what a fucking country we all have let it become. equal rights FUCK YOU free speech FUCK YOU .you have the right to food/money provided you dont mind a little investigation ,humiliation and if you cross your fingers REHABILITATION

  • yea it is peter howard youre right check it up sorry for the mistake thanx for the correction!by the way topper owns him too :)

  • Agreed! nobody tops topper :-)

  • @ChannonFodder you do know thats not topper playing its terry chimes but yes no body tops topper because topper went to jail so terry chimes was there new one

  • @inchwormgreen yeah i knew! was topper in nick though? thought he was sacked for his drug addiction.

  • @ChannonFodder what do u mean well there was many diffrent drummers because joe strummer was in the 101ers first with i think mick and then they made a new band called the london ss and nick topper headon was there first drummer to make it and he quit after a week so they got a new drummer terry chimes and then they broke up in 1976 and then they made the clash which included mick jones joe strummer paul simonon and terry chimes which then terry quit after like a month and topper came back

  • @inchwormgreen lol... strummer was busking on the street and mick who was with paul and terry in london ss. they met joe while he was busking and asked him to join a new band band

  • Mick Jones should go down as a legend like Strummer, without Jones the Clash woulda been nothing

  • could'nt agree more

  • channonfodder i see youre a real clash fan!cool bro !i love the clash-yestrday i played a small gig whith my mates i dedicated white riot to joe it was kick ass!!

  • @buderick23 the four of them became legends.

  • @buderick23 He has went down as a legend. One of the best music composers to ever live

  • @buderick23 jones started the clash, no jones no clash

  • @buderick23 Joe gave them their spark, but Mick gave them their polish! What a team!

  • @buderick23

    ditto

  • @buderick23 It shows it too, in their album "Cut The Crap."

  • @buderick23 dont forget paul and topper. after topper was sacked the band just went downward and after mick got sacked it just ended

  • @buderick23 As we found out when he got the boot :(

  • Goodness, I love this song. It's so amazing!

    RIP Joe

  • finally seeing terry on the rock the casbah video destroyed topper cause he made the song-drums bass and piano by himself!so u know it was a hard situation for all but its history and i will always love that band!

  • the thing is topper was adicted to heroin by that time and not only drugs were against the clash agenda it also hurt the band cause topper didnt nail the drumming and joe told him he would take him back if he would clean up his act but it took him a while also he was hurt that joe was quated saying topper is a junky after they told the press he was amotionlly tired and taking a break...

  • by the way topper is a much much better drummer/musican than terry chimes he took the clash to a whole different level

  • One of the biggest mistake Joe Strummer made is kick Topper and Mick out of The Clash, otherwise they might last longer!

  • Mick Jones. What a legend.

  • Yep thats Tory Chrimes on the drums as somebody spotted out, Tory was on the first album then after Topper got kicked out he came back

  • This song is not just musically brilliant, but also lyrically brilliant.

  • man great song mick is has a cool voice and joe...his voice is so missed in the world r.i.p joe u will not be forgotten!! and by the way the drummer is terry chimes not Peter Howard!!

  • Nope, it's peter howard on drums.

  • i agree. even though i'm using a laptop right now. he was barking up the wrong tree here.

  • Wow, Paul Simonon was playing with his fingers. Never seen him not use a pick before.

  • the best song by the best band EVER!!!!!

  • Does anyone have Safe European Home from this gig that can upload it? I managed to find a copy but it cuts out several parts of the song (ie someone pulled out a bag of fail making the video file). I haven't been able to find it on YouTube for quite some time.

  • If this was Mick's last show, it was a hell of a way to go out. This song was one of the best if not the best of the set they played that day. The interplay between Mick and Joe during Joe's vocal part mid-song is vintage Clash and something special indeed. You can tell how much all of the band enjoyed playing this tune. Its a perfect example of why they truly were the only band that mattered...

  • its such a shame to see them broken up and joe dead...they could do the world some good today if they still were together...

  • fockn band year

    the clash its essencial

  • Uhh, Me Too, I was there, yeah that's right, I was standing next to the guy, by the other guy with the camera and wires you can see me right there between 1:22 - 4:05 with the glasses and mustache ... just giving you a hard time ...lol

  • I was at this show. Was there most of the day. In fact, I just spotted myself in this video after Joe starts his diatribe. I'm just to the left of the guy with the glasses and mustache starting at 4:25 on the left of the screen and then panning across to the middle until 4:29. I have a "huh?" kinda look on my face LOL! My wife recognized me immediately, probably because of this same look!

  • What´s Joe saying where he says "Sounds like murder!

Those shouts..." i´t doesnt match the lyrics in the original version.

  • you buy you die

friend had that on his shirt

and then was sat on him

    long story

  • You can see the BAD stylings emerging from Mick in this video.

    Fantastic Video! Totally mind-blowing song!

  • forget about springsteen or elvis the boss is joe strummer!

  • @Mariagaro to true

  • forget about springsteen or elvis the boss is joe strummer!

  • Sandinista totally had at least one half decent song per side. This is one of my new favorites; as usual with the Clash, way more energy live. It just literally rocks, and you can help but wish you were there rocking with 'em.

  • makes me sad.... knowing mick was disliked so.

  • I think Mick wasn't in the best mood ever, lots of stuff happened with the band after this show, and if you watch other performances form this show you can see some Mick-Strummer action.

  • "i was there too" - long day.

  • Van Halen blew balls.

Van Halen did NOT have the same effect on the world as The Clash

  • blew, sucked and licked

  • Van Halen are Bollocks you cunt. How dare you compare them to the clash!

  • Van Halen had one or two good songs, and the rest seemed like a chick queefed them out her pussy. Thats how bad the rest of their songs were.

  • Van Halen surely blew, but it was backstage after the show.

  • I concur.

  • Uhm... Strummer wasn't anti american, he loved america and I myself don't wanna listen to one and half hour guitar solos, you might but I don't, so you can listen to van halen... They wore ridicilous trousers.

  • fuck off fuckface, Van Halen sucks so bad themselves that they ain't got the right to blow anybody off, they might be blowing each other but that's their own business, the Clash kicked Van Halen's ass for sure.

  • Ok, can Mick hear himself? I'm trying to determine how he felt he should have been the front man. Should have swallowed his pride and it would have kept this guys together.

  • This was the last show this band ever played together as Stummer/Jones.. this is it. The end of the Clash as we knew them. Enjoy

  • How well I remember this song from that show. There were handgun graphics on the flanks of the stage. By the time it was over, we were front row, stage right and Mick Jones was delivering that diatribe about 'East LA.'

  • Confusing Mick Jones for Joe Strummer would probably make Joe laugh. Mick was lead vocals on this song while Joe is the one delivering the message at the end.

  • I realized my mistake about an hour later. This isn't new--I've been confusing the two of them since the first day I knew of the band. Lovely, haha! If only my confusion was about the name of the lead singer of Kajagoogoo rather than the Only Band That Matters.

  • Didn't the lead singer from Kajagoogoo sing the title song from Neverending Story?

And hey, at least you didn't call him Mick Strummer!

  • Joe would be hatin' things that are going down now, and would be fightin' more than ever, like wtf people?!

  • Listen to Mick's guitar at the beginning. F***ing bone chilling...

  • this is terry chimes on drums, right?

  • No, his name is Pete Howard( play drums today in Queenadreena).
