I think all kids from birth to age 18 should just go to school and come home. No sports, no cheerleading, no pageants, no spelling bees -- nothing that involves any form of competition. I can say this, when me and my sisters did pageants and my brother played Little League, he and my dad were gone to practice a whole lot more than we were gone to a pageant. We were at home on Wed. nites studying for our spelling exams, he was at practice doing his homework in the duggout.

My sister went to school with a girl whose parents make her go to a spelling bee coach M-Thursday and every Saturday from 9am-12pm because they wanted her to win the national spelling bee. One mom in our church makes her 12-year-old practice memorizing every church hymn and her brother numerous verses of the Bible. So we can't pretend that only people with daughters in pageants can go overboard.

Pageants aren't usually open to the public. If you look closely all of the people in the audience are family members. Every person that is inside of the location that the pageant is being held in (usually a large conference room at a hotel like where they have wedding receptions) has to have a badge or bracelet or some form of id that says they are supposed to be there and which contestant they are with. People can't walk in off the street and watch in most cases.

There are different levels of glitz. The more high glitz the pageant is the more the prizes are in most circumstances. This video looks like a medium glitz pageant to me. As for me, I begged to do high glitz as a child and my mother would rarely allow it. It is rare that a child is forced to do any pageant let alone a high glitz pageant because of the money that goes into it. The little girls are playing dress-up. I always loved doing high glitz because I felt like a princess.

First of all this little girl did an awesome job! Great singer for her age! Second my daughter does pageants and she loves them she is almost 3 and has done them since she was 5months old and at least 10 a year! I am a fat mom but I haven't always been and I don't push her to do it! I was in pageants all the way up to 16 and then decided to quit! If she doesn't win I don't do anything to her! It was a learning experience and we had fun while doing it! It isn't as bad as you think!
