  • fucking racism in USA killed him

    R.I.P.

  • how sad =/

  • Horrible

  • the referee killed this man period

  • he died because of the referee...

  • in truth that nigger is a bad mouth like gayweather ...

  • fuckin white ref wanted him dead. stupid motherfucker

  • @blazinpyromaniac

    fucking racist

  • translation: fuck boxing

  • Paret had taken brutal beaten by gene fullmer like a fight or two before this fight, alot of people say that's the fight that really killed him.

  • what the fuck was the referee doing?

  • 1962

  • REFEREE MISTAKES......

  • @petikz29 Fight should had to be stopped right after 3rd punch, when he was just stuck on ropes.I'm feeling sad for him. But I'll say he's a great and brave man. He take all punches without any fear. My Salute to him.

  • 1:00 the fight had to be stopped

  • I think I have the full right to call the guy who killed his brother, when he could've let him live, A DUMB nigger.

  • they should 've beat the ref for that mistake, to death...dumb fuck

  • damn...thtat's really fucked up

  • Benny "Kid" Paret-Emile Griffith bout was on 1962, Ruby Goldstein died on April 23, 1984, so it means he did not commit suicide after the fight.. he just retired being a referee after this.. during this time he was so indecisive because he had often been criticized for stopping other fights too early.. that's the reason why he did not stop the bout.. just so happened that this tragedy happens..

  • I heared Paret management made him fight even though Paret took savage beatings in his last 2 fights not long before this.Manager was hurting for $.and yes ref was also late, fuck up.

  • ruby goldstein after this figth commit suicide.

  • Судья сука, человек из-за него жизни лишился.

  • White ref didn't step in and stop fight because he didn't care if a black man died.

  • @CelticReject you, sir, are an ignorant fool.

  • @Dreiand Not really. I fail to see why the ref did not stop the fight when the man was clearly out on his feet and unable to defend himself properly!

  • @CelticReject It's idiotic to believe that it was actually a racist thing. you are stupid and I apologize if this offends you, but as fight29GT said, do your research before you talk.

  • @Dreiand I wansn't saying he was consciously being racist. But I thought that he may have let the fight continue that long because (like many whites of that era) he had less consideration of their well beings because they were black. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

  • @CelticReject Wow, you are really going to blame this on race..? The ref was facing critisism before the match because of how early he stopped the fight in his previous bouts. It is in all ways his fault and he should have stopped it alot earlier when his hands went down an he was unable to defend himself properly. Research before you go makeing ignorant assumptions based on others race. People like you bring dishonor to the sport of Boxing with uncalled for, smart remarks!

  • Winner for death ko!

  • THE REF SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • very poor stoppage by Ruby Goldstein, at least 15 punches too late

  • Son of a bitch, that turd packs a punch

  • the referee should stop the fight..he is liable for it. that's the job of the referee.

  • 29 unanswered punches...how could this happen?

  • @pippo321321 Two black boxers, one white refereee. That'd do...

  • First Superman Punch Ever! :53

  • walk it off!!

  • ref is an asshole... paret wasn't defending himself any more, that was enough to stop the fight.....

  • he hit 21 punch in a row! damn so brutal!

  • WTF!!!!! The ref should have stopped the fight yesterday!

  • C'mon! He could have went 1 more round!!!

  • lol thought u said he died?

  • @Masta420Shake he did die actually

  • He died doing what he loves. God bless him...

  • @Aloha808Rebel A week and a half later...

  • @Aloha808Rebel He dont die -.-

  • Don Dunphee, the announcer, How could he possibly say Paret "collapsed from exhaustion" and the referee should have been "BANNED" from ever officiating another match. I watched this fight on tv when I was a kid and still remember how I felt watching how many direct punches landed to Parets head as the "referee" stood there and watched. Sad Sad Day for boxing

  • These racist comments are a joke.... The Ref in this fight never set foot in the ring again. 15 rounds of boxing is to much for ANY fighter.

  • that's why boxing is gone slot safer, took away the 15 rounds and ref has to stop it

  • The ref didn't give a FUCK..Whats another NIGGA getting belted in the ring..let alone a dead one..racist muthafukkas back then!!!

  • @butio007 ~ One thing is Paret fans might riot because it will seem like the ref's underestimating their idol.

  • thats pretty fuckin sad.........no joke, it was obviously the refs fault though. I think we should all be honest though, if their was a black ref in the ring, he would of stopped it quicker than that. Or just a fair intelligent white man.

  • Hmmm i think if Mayweather sees this he'd say: "Protect yourself at all times...."

  • How is it the refs fault not like he took 20 mins to stop it, this is boxing a brutal sport where men train to hit others with power and accuracy to KO them this is life deal with it or dont watch boxing.

  • @jezza1789 it was the refs fault.

  • @jezza1789 What do u mean it wasn't the ref fault? His job is to stop the fight if the fighter cannot protect him or her self. Back then those rules were not properly enforced. The guy was clear out on his feet and was not protecting himself. A true fan of the sport(not brutality) would not make a foolish statement like that. I wonder...do u box? And do you know that many fighter from back in the day took on the sport to support their families.

  • @jezza1789 I disagree. We're talking semantics. It IS a brutal sport, but that's relative. No ref would REASONABLY stop the Ali-Foreman fight. I agree: boxing means getting hit, but common sense tells when a boxer is being hit past endurance. If a fighter, for ex. has his arms hanging at his sides and takes say 7 punches in a row t hen it's time to stop the fight. Otherwise anyone can ref. The ref should have an educated eye. Hagler took a lot of hard punches from Leonard but my >>

  • @jezza1789 >>educated eye tells me he's ABLE to take those punches. He's got a hard head and doesn't seem hurt. That's the only criterion. Because, like you say, that's what boxing is: a brutal sport, take it or leave it BUT being a brutal sport and brutal spectacle are not the same thing, based on the standard I submitted in part 1 of this post. To a degree it's in the eye of the beholder (when does a cut require stopping the fight?), but it's also consensual common sense.

  • The Ref killed this man not the other fighter....the fucked up part is that other fighter lived with Paret's death on his hands his whole life

  • Stupid Ref...

  • stupid ref.

  • The winner by DEATH more like...

  • >>was obvious in the Ali-Holmes fight where the ref wanted Ali to quit in the corner and Dundee, chivalrously roared that HE was stopping Ali from fighting. That was Dundee's way of allowing Ali to save face but the ref couldn't get it. There should be a mandatory punch rule, like the mandatory knockdown rule: more than five unanswered punched in a row and the fight is automatically stopped. I know: people will say what kinds of punches, how many, etc. but it's a start just thinking about it.

  • @Richard40171 then theres no point of boxing or mma u can easily hit some1 five times to the face

  • @suckerproof516 I could respond to this if I knew what you were saying. There's no point in posting if the person can't read what you're saying. Maybe it's my fault; maybe everyone knows what "mma" means. My point, as I recall my posts, was obviously boxing hurts (and SHOULD hurt) but not to the point of death or unnecessary impact. Once a boxer receives so many unanswered blows, he's pinned against the ropes, he's not doing anything (Ali-Holmes), fight should be stopped.

  • @Richard40171 mma stands for mixed martial arts in this case an you said five unanswered punches in a row so im telling you that not that many boxers an fighters can react quick to 5 punches in a row ima boxer also an boxers i fought with didnt even react to 8 punches in a row but it depends on the fighter also theres no need to be an asshole an keep hitting the guy if you kno hes done already theres no need to hurt him if you know your gonna win its not just the refs fault i hope you understand

  • @suckerproof516 Thanks. I plead common sense. The five punch rule is a rule of thumb, unlike the mandatory 8 count (and even that sometimes is a rule of thumb, as with the standing 8 count). When Hagler is hit more than 5 times by Leonard any educated eye can see Hagler is not hurt; but when a fighter's hands hang down or is perceptibly defenseless or even semi-conscious, then stop it. Obviously Ali wasn't fighting against Holmes; Herbie Hide was helpless after being knocked down

  • @Richard4017well those are the rules now before it wasnt enforced like that

  • @suckerproof516 >>so many times against Bowe. Any educated person could see Hide had nothing but couldn't quit, so the ref should have made that decision for him. America or England is not Sparta ("with it or on it," i.e. one's shield); boxing is a brutal sport but is not war either. I fully agree that hitting hard and being hit hard is part of the sport, but as a "sport" there should be educated limits. I certainly DON'T mean a hard rule that 5 punches stops a fight or even 5>

  • @suckerproof516 >unanswered punches. The ref has got to use common sense based on criteria such as 1) does the fighter LOOK hurt, 2) does he answer punches, 3) does he have punching power left, 4) is he trapped on the ropes, 5) is he semi-conscious. Why would a ref want to ask Ali if he wants to quit when it's obvious Ali is not hitting (1), has no power in his punches (3), to give 2 criteria .The health of the paramount should have priority to protect the health of the sport.

  • There are many questionable referee decisions. Walcott miscounted Ali-Liston II when there might have been at least a few good rounds left. Another ref let PacMan bleed that Mexican for 12 rounds to no point. Refs constantly allowed Ali to stand over a fallen opponent, apparently awed by Ali's charisma, or what? Even the man in the street knows the boxer goes to a neutral corner following a KD. Refs also don't seem to realize that boxers PREFER to have the fight stopped rather than quit. This>>

  • They should have turned his head to the other side to prevent aspiration.

  • Griffith was put into jail?

  • Ref didn't stopped sooner?

  • his legs were moving though

  • That nigger is a faggot

  • damn

  • Benny "the Kid" Paret, born Bernardo Paret (March 14, 1937 - April 3, 1962), born in Santa Clara, Cuba, was a Cuban welterweight boxer. Paret won the world welterweight title twice in the early 1960s and died in 1962 following an unsuccessful attempt to defend the crown in what is considered to be the first ring death witnessed by a national television audience. Paret had a lifetime record of 35 wins (11 knockouts), 12 losses and 3 draws.

  • bullshit referee

  • @killerwaz88 u jack ass. These guys know the risks long before stepping into the ring. Its their choice to box not urs. Honestly thats how i wanna go either in the ring or onthe baseball field. This is an art form, and a Thinking man's puzzle as much as it is a sport.

  • omg

  • the announcer sais : the time of 2:09 of 12th round... the opponent has proclaimed dead

  • That ref should of been done for man slaughter

  • THIS IS A SPORT FOR ANIMALS - BOXING MUST BE BANNED.

  • @killerwaz88 This is OLd Times The Rules were not yet That Safe But now the boxing industry has made safety rules to prevent this from happening..

  • @killerwaz88 You stupid retard, you get injuries in just as many others sports than boxing. Football, Basketball, Hockey, all of em! are you gonna ban them too? Just because your too big a pussy to step into the ring doesn't mean it should be banned for people like me who are passionate about it.

  • If you have ever been in a controlled fight you are taught to not stop until your opponent forfeits, the ref stops the match, or the bell rings. Unless one of those happen you are trained to continue fighting. In the ring animal instincts kick in and humanity stop, otherwise boxing and all other forms of fighting would cease to exist as professional sports. Look at MMA now, fighters continue to fight until their opponent taps out, the ref stops the fight, or the bell rings.

  • @MartinXNewton what you on about, any fighter knows whether their opponent is knocked out why would they carry on punching, and MMA fighters tap out when they're in a submission, you think they will put there guard down to get more punches taken to tap out the ref will do his they no what there doing and run in to stop the fight, that was the worst refferee ive seen though

  • i saw at least ten blows taken to the head when his arms were clearly down but you can tell he was in serious trouble well before that. at the end of the day the ref is responsible for the safety of the fighters but the fighter's corner has the responsibility to protect him too. also in regards to the aggressor, this is a boxing match not a fight to the death. you cant lose your humanity in the ring.

  • Guys, don't hate on the ref. it wasn't his fault. Paret had a rep for faking injuries and the ref thought it was just that, he jumped in too late and he felt awful. he never refed again. and as for griffith, if someone taunted you, calling you names and hurtful words and you had the chance to beat the crap out of him in a boxing match i bet you would too. paret made the mistake of getting griffith too mad and fired up, and he paid for it.

  • After 2:09 min. in round 12 , winner by kill

  • The Ref was out for lunch? Really?

  • Ref should be raped and murdered

  • that was as viscious as the Cooney Norton ko

  • Damn....Looks like all those last hits were under the jaw. I bet his brain was being knocked all over the place. Ref should have stopped this, it was obvious he wasn't really defending. He only had his hands up because of instinct and training, he couldn't even defend himself.

  • the dumbass ref shud b shot

  • bro dez nuts! Dis punk ass redneck shit, who put this bullshit video up, prolly sum guy named billy or buck or sum shit! Im surprised so many people looked at this dumb shit, wrong click of the mouse i guess. Obviously, there were more fights just like this that u cant find on youtube. Look at the time frame, and look at the audience! That was the norm.

  • u can see he's breathing 1:42

  • he didn't die

  • guys stop talking shit about the ref... watch other boxing videos from this era... they would all let it go on like this... not really his fault. one day people will look at our refs of our times and call them brutal for letting people get knocked down more than once. the sport is getting softer and softer

  • How sad!

  • that referee should be in prison, he could have stoppes the fight soearlier

  • What round is this?

  • He s not dead he put his legs in the air they don't see?

  • OK, OK I got the date wrong. Let it go.

  • Did the ref commit suicide after this fight or is it another fight i'm thinking of?

  • the good all days (?) ref those days!!! he shoul of give paret 8 standing count.....this ref its probably the grandfather of the one trinidad-vargas!! 12 round fernando was out 3 knockdown was unnecessary

  • dumb ass ref

  • i discover the first Superman punch at 0:53 harharhar i am a beast

  • I can't believe the ref let that happen!!

  • The ref should die.....he let it go on way too far.

  • Damn he got messed up. The ref just watched it all

  • @kaos3124 not even remotely funny... just shoot yourself you prick.

  • very poor stoppage

  • seeing this makes e wonder how there hasent been a death in the UFC yet ,, guys in the the UFC take way harder beatings with hardly no glove at all, seeing this guy get beat with regulation gloves on and die makes me question his health

  • @guitargreg72 nah, not even close

the officiating in MMA has been somewhat inconsistent for a while now, but due to there not being any ropes to get tangled up in, if a fighter is rendered unconscious, they nearly always flop immediately to the floor as opposed to remaining standing

i've been a fan of both sports for many years and i have never seen this amount of unanswered blows landed whilst unconscious in an MMA fight

  • @cazz3000 You ever watch PRIDE FC?

  • @MusicIsMySustenance i agree shame on parets corner not throwing the towel

  • @sugarlanskee8 griffith was gay actually bisexual said so himself. so no, the story wasn't far fetched.

  • damn son that shit was like 20 hit combo

  • The ref did not do his job and the fight should have been stopped way before it was. The ref should have been charged with manslaughter, or at the very least never allowed to referee a match again. What a shame.

  • Emile Griffith is still one huge Son of a Bitch.

  • ref shouldve stopped the fight, it was pretty obvious the guy was in trouble cos he stopped trying to block

  • @MusicIsMySustenance I agree!

    Terrible

  • terrible ref, 24 punches to a man whose hands were down and could not protect himself.

  • Ref: I'll just let em kill this nigger"

  • I was 11 years old then and I watched this fight in amazement. Iremember it like it was yesterday.

  • @stockvideo100 So you would be like 20 years old now? I know my maths is great.

  • @stockvideo100 maybe becouse it was :D

  • Incompetent bastard referee. He should ve been shot on the spot!

  • the white devil refs fault whites didnt think black were worth much back then...

  • @pozatronic44 Could not agree more. They're like pit bulls back in da days....n still r.lol

  • @CuntIEatYou lol

  • sad thing to see :( glad rules are different now

  • That referee let them go on for WAY too long! He was literally getting beaten to a pulp before the referee interfered. Fucking JOKE.

  • thats the same ref that was in mayweathers last fight.

  • wow holly shit! how was this fight not stopped earlier!?! hes leaning on the rope not defending himself them falls back on the ropes and gets several more shots!

looks like he was trying to kill him and the ref was gonna let him!

  • the ref shoulda stopped the fight when paret was through the ropes and getting hit it was obvious then he was done

  • He went into a coma and died ten days later.

  • Referee needs a bloody good arse kick'n for that shameful performance....

  • Think about it this happened on live national TV.

  • Ref shoulda been charged with murder. Announcer shaulda been beat for stupidity, "Collapses from exhaustion..." Yeah, it nothing to do with being knocked out cold...severe head trauma had nothing to do with it, he could have stood upright through all of that. It was the exhaustion that made him slump to the canvas.

  • @danant75

Don Dunphy was good on radio, was a sleepwalker on tv. Paret was given a big present in a previous decision win over Griffith (Griffith handled him easy--was called the loser). Next they threw Paret against Gene Fullmer who used him as a punching bag for 10 rounds. Then Paret thought it was a brilliant idea to insist that Griffith was a homosexual. Even in Boxing can there be any story more insane?

  • @danant75 what about the damn boxer! you think he couldnt tell that he was done for before delivering atleast the last three blows? he just kept wailing away! even mike tyson didnt do that! i seen him walk away from people he knew wouldnt get up. this guy just kept swinging like he wanted to kill him.

  • @bobwatters in boxing u don't stop until his on the ground is not the boxers fault bcs he did what he had to do

  • @albizu2010 WTF are you talking about? If a boxer shows no defense or offense and is taking a beating the ref has to stop it and its a TKO. The boxer doesn't need to drop to the ground in order for the ref to stop the fight.

  • @masterknaster stupid i know its the ref fault but some loser said it was the boxers fault what i trying to say its that is not the boxers fault bcs he doesnt have to stop punching unless the ref does something

  • @albizu2010 oh yeah i misread that. Yeah the boxer keeps going until the ref stops it....

  • @bobwatters You cant blame the other boxer for that bro. The ref is the person who holds the responsibility of looking after the boxers.

  • @Tehui1974 you cant be serious. so ur saying that as a boxer he has not seen enough people get knocked out to know when enough is enough? is he a gladiator that has to fight to the death? Any trained fighter can tell when someone is that far gone. It would be diffrent if he was standing on his own but he was obviously held up by the ropes for so many hits. if you can keep punching another man clearly dead on his feet for sport i feel bad for you.

  • @bobwatters read about the history of this bout...the history of Emile Griffith...and then realize that there was no such thing as being 'openly gay' in the world at that time. it will make more sense, considering prior to the fight griffith was called a 'homosexual' (which most historians say he was). Griffith wanted his blood. He got it.

  • @bobwatters ...he did want to kill him...seriously. It's what happens when you make anything in the fight game personal.

  • end of the day, its the ref's fault

  • @bobwatters shouldn't call your opponent fag without being sure you're gonna whoop his ass I guess, I know it's brutal, but he's there to win the fight, and until he's down or the ref says to stop he's gotta keep punching.., that's boxing.

  • @pitmungki he dosent have to keep punching. no fighter ever has to keep punching. he wanted to kill him and he did. thats what it breaks down to. he commited murder in the ring simple as that. blame the ref if you want but like i said before no trained fighter keeps punching a clearly knocked out oponent! unless of course they want more than to just end the fight.

  • The moment when you don't know weather to thumbs up or thumbs down a video

  • To be fair, this was a much different time and the referees allowed a lot more of a beating to take place before they interjected. Not saying it's right, but that is how the referees were taught in this era.

I do respect the announcer for noting that the title was not the important part at that moment but the condition of Paret was the focus of concern. Even today, many announcers don't do that.

  • nice resurrection as he fought in 1962

  • They should have executed that piece of fucking garbage that kept hitting him long after he was unconcious. the ref already killed himself which he deserved.

  • @19OfficerDude They're fighters, put two fighters in the cage and nature will take its course, they will fight to the death. That is why there is a referee. The referee was responsible, if you've ever been in a fight you'd know it's not easy to control yourself. Hence we have a referee.

  • @LieutenantStandby

You are wrong. They're proffesional boxers, not fighters. It's not a no holds barred street fight to the death, it's a proffessionally conducted boxing match.

Griffith should have been banned from the sport forever along with that fucking ref.

  • daam this fights back in the day were crazy no wonder why now days they protect fighters to much that sometimes boxing fans complain why some bouts now days get stopped to soon

  • fight was in 1962 and he died 10 days later you fucking dumbass

  • Comment removed

  • Paret died two days later. Fight was in 1961.

  • @stockvideo100 you're almost right. This fight was in 1962, and Parent died 10 days later, having never regaining conciousness

  • Comment removed

  • @stockvideo100 about a week and a half later actually

  • @stockvideo100 It was 10 days later. Nonetheless, tragic.
