  • its clear stephen knows himself quite well and her probing of his exp in his teens as abuse is a leading questions with alot of charge on it. She is projecting and assuming there is more to be told and I love how he stands strong. He could teach her a thing or two about being authentic. Her patronising tone really grates on me.

  • funny how everyone is talking her down while this little clip has thousands of views and the other 3 parts of this interview have only hundreds of views.

watch the whole thing before shouting your opinion across.

other than that, this is the first time i hear this about stephen and i'm very surprised and shocked. i hope he fixes his problems.

  • do you have the episode with sharon osbourne?

  • Also I think gay people are more inclined to be depressed because they would feel separated from society when they are growing up - and they experience first hand prejudice.

Both my brother and myself went through a terrible period of depression because we both were not accepted for our sexuality. And I know many other gay people who have attempted suicide and some unfortunately have succeeded.

  • She's not annoying, This is THERAPY

  • @annaewf She's not annoying. She has all the hallmarks in her speech and mannerisms of a very troubled individual who is hiding behind a sad and weak attempt at being intellectual and understanding psychologist. She's on the delusional edge and it's about time Billy or someone else assisted her to get help, before she goes over the edge.

  • (continuing of what Stephen Fry said about this interview in Radio Times)

"So in that sense it wasn't particually helpful. But I think it is helpful in a way that simply talking about things you don't usually talk about is in itself helpful"

  • So what did Stephen Fry have to say in Radio Times this week about this? I quote:

And I'm suddenly reminded of Shrink Rap, the more4 show in which he was put through his paces by the psychologist Dr Pamella Connolly. I thought it was riveting. Did he find it useful?

"No. I can't see a use for it. The fact is, I dissagreed with so much of what she said. She did what was, to me, cardinal sin for a therapist, which was telling me what I ought to feel. (tbc)

  • What's with all the stupid comments about Pamela? It's fairly obvious that she's trying to draw things out of him and clarify his answers so that the viewers understand. Most of her questions and comments were probably recorded after the interview. You lot have an awful lot of opinions about interviews when it's fairly obvious that you don't have the faintest idea about the medium that you are criticising.

  • Stop whinging about Pamela. Take a BASIC course on television interviewing techniques before you start mouthing off.

  • thanks for your great playlist of stephen fry's interviews!!

  • Oh God, that woman is really stupid compared to Stephen. When she's trying to "analyze" him, she looks like a fool. Everybody can seehe know as much as her and maybe more what he's talking about. ..

  • one thing to say pamela;

ask a leading question and you will get a leading answer

  • @Joyceogrady

very much an issue here. this is why i favour behavioural assessment over this quasi-psychoanalytic approach of hers.

  • The reason for her annoyingness is that she can't keep up with Stephen. She is trying to be the "doctor" who asks all these questions and gives an explanation/diagnoses based on the answers.

Trouble is that Stephen knows all of this himself and that he is quite a few steps ahead already.

She desperately tries to stay in control, but she is not the "authority" anymore. It's actually Stephen Fry explaining to her.

  • @mctmct1987 There´s a control, and based answers. Well maybe somekinda control...which gives a perspective.

  • @mctmct1987 She also has very likely known him as a friend for years, which maybe explains why it probably is difficult to try to be official and doctorial.

  • @mctmct1987 Oh definitely - for sure! Stephen Fry is much too intelligent for this woman.

  • @mctmct1987 Isn't this the Pamela Anderson (no relation) that married Billy Connolly? Looks a lot like her!

  • @neilxt

Pamela STEPHENson... and yes... this is the Pamela that married Billy.

  • Why is there so much anti-Pamela feedback?

  • 8:55 Stephen shows what he really thinks about her in his body language. I love Stephen Fry ^_^

  • i dont want to tell him to stop. or slow down.

  • her eyebrows annoy me. and the fact she cant shut up.

  • I find Stephen Fry very attractive I am a woman..I find him very attractive :D

  • Can you actually believe this interviewer is the same women who played the dumb blonde in Superman 3, remember the one on the empire state building. she changed her second name from stephenson to connolly when she grew her brain.

  • just so people know most psychologists r acrually crap, anylizing a problem in someones mind does not DEAL with it btw i get that this is not really about helping fry as much as just interviewing him

  • Turdsandwitch, when will you grow tired of very slightly irritating youtube?

  • why is she saying she feels like telling him to slow down-everything he's sayin is interestin,i don't find it too fast-he says everything in a very relaxing understandable manner.lovely stephen fry.she wud make me feel a bit uncomfortable if i woz there-she so clinical-ah the seriousness of it-i can't take it!!!i love u stephen fry!!!!!

  • Yeh, i saw that too. I'm the same, i have no problem keeping up with what he's saying.

  • SHE has ADD--she wanted to interrupt him instead of listening; she wanted to control the direction of the response to her agenda. I have ADD; it's very hard to listen to others. I do like her take on his experience. I agree, he wasn't going too fast.

  • r u serious, u're gonna blame the fact that u're a rude twat who cba listening 2 anyone on 3 letters

  • this shrink is useless

  • Pam seems a bit of a dragon. Surley psyciatrists should be sensitive with their patients but she seems quite pushy and confrontational

  • dont tell stephen fry to stop! hes stephen fry!!!!!

  • Odd, I wonder why Stephen agreed to do this. I don't think he said anything he hasn't said before, and she certainly added nothing to the disclosures.

  • shes stupid

  • She is NOT stupid. She is a clinical psychologist with a speciality in sexual problems. She's highly intelligent. She knows what she's doing. She didn't treat all her subjects the same way on tis series; I suspect that she has her reasons for treating Stephen this way, given his incredible intellect.

  • Thank you! Somebody who isnt being needlessly horrible to Pamela.

  • she's like an automated text book, he might as well have put his INTERRUPTING IN CLASS sentences into google and read the results.

  • thanks for uploading this.=]

  • Clinical psychologists are charlatans

  • how do you know that?, have you been to see one, you speaking from your experience?

  • @DeadJerker

as a psychologist who specialised in teaching, learning and development and who frequently disagrees with clinical psychologists... i'm inclined to agree somewhat. not all are idiots, but a good many are. they stick with a medical model, which makes me think that they wanted to be psychiatrists but failed to get into medical school so they took the next best thing.

    bit sad, really.

  • He is basically just doing both jobs of analysis and being analysed all by himself. pamela doesn't need to be there!

  • crassly or furiously poking at things, she always thinks it is a defence mechanism when it is the level that he not copes at but is acceptable.

she pushes for no reason other than to contrl and prover her understanding that stephen is somehow wrong x

  • Stephen Fry can do it all. He is so brilliant. They should switch chairs. Stephen could be a better job than her.

  • He has a far better understanding of his psyche than this so called doctor.

She so far hasn't managed to extract anything from him that I haven't heard him say before.

  • The psychiatrist can tell you nothing you don't know yourself. She doesn't have to be so confrontational though. Witch.

  • @TornLoveNotes

she has a doctoral degree, ergo she is - de facto and de jure - a doctor (not of medicine but of clinical psychology). nothing so-called about her.

  • Oh my god I love Stephen Fry!! A true gent.

  • Christ she is awful.

  • it's my genuine impression that fry's "official story" is pretty damn close to being the true story, which is part of why i find him so likable and unpretentious. i realize that this is posted as entertainment and likely produced as such, but i would really have preferred if they'd just handed him the questions on index cards and switched on the mic/camera... phony shrink lady really adds nothing good to this. thanks for posting anyway.

anyone else find the video quality a little choppy?

  • Your theory is very narrow. Not every society has what you say a "archetypal" upbringing and yet in every society you will find a homosexual person.

Yes, there are some people that come to realize later in life that they are gay. But there are those who from a young age have been attracted to their own sex.

You can believe what you want, but unless you are in the position of being homosexual you will never really understand.

  • I wonder about your definition of 'unnatural'. Same gender sex has been documented in a broad variety of species. This would certainly argue for a 'natural' phenomenon.

Furthermore changes in brain structure have been documented in gay men which are rather similar for female brains. Considering the fact that your brain forms very early on in embryogenesis, which is before upbringing and a 'good family' comes into play, it would certainly suggest nature rather then nurture. I.e. no unnatural.

  • But it is an attack. You assume that every gay/lesbian person stems from a traumatic experience in their life and therefore assume that they would not be who they are because of it.

From the way you categories this theory I get the impression that you find being gay/lesbian as unnatural and that is highly offensive to those you speak of.

  • Interrupting in class, eh?

Shut up and let the man speak!

  • I've got to add that I think he's the most lovable characters ever. He appears just so nice through and through. : )

  • Actually she is accredited by a second-rate institute; has a non-PhD doctorate; and, is excluded from full-membership of the American Psych. Assoc - it shows. Pretence-Pam would do well from actually seeing a professional Clinical Psychologist, and exploring her need to control/direct, and create a facade of overly well-pronounced refinement. Could create a far more generalizably therapeutic outcome if she knew who she was and had the requisite approved training. Back to real school 'Dr' Pamela.

  • in summary on this program i think stephen does not or at least does not think he needs help. i wonder whether he learned anything new about himself during this interview. im sure the public got more out of this then he did. i would have preferred it if stephen could have expressed his feelings and experiences without anothers presence, on his own terms. perhaps pamela did get more out of him, however it seemed very tense and tumulus a discussion. although its stephen and thats enough.

  • I was really impressed with Stephen! (Just saw the whole thing on Aussie TV). Fearless self expression by Stephen and personally i think you Stephen are quite 'normal' and gifted. Lets not try and find pain that didn't exist Pamela, particularly with the 'buggery' experience - I think Stephen's interpretation of that is TOTALLY acceptable. Yes, dad my have been a prob (so many are) but such can drive us to be high achievers and very creative. Leave the poor man alone - he is GREAT!!

  • ahem yes - not really questioning and waiting to hear the answer more like routing towards a 'diagnosis' Pamela seems afraid to talk about anything outside what she has chosen to diagnose - even interrupting to 'route' the answer back to what she thinks it ought to be - I pity poor Billy.

  • It makes me wonder. How many brilliant, funny, anarcic people we are spiritually killing by labeling them with adhd etc...so early and preventing them reaching their potential because they are 'i'll'

  • this woman is a blithering idiot

  • yeah...that´s adhd...got it myself.

  • love him, hate her

  • Can someone upload sharon osbourne on shrink rap, i really want to see it x

  • Interesting as a psychoteraphy promotional material - you see, it's not so scary after all kind of thing - but unbelievably aimed for a public entertainment. Psychoteraphy is about personal soul, not a gossip for the bored. One more example how anything, ANYTHING can be corrupted.

  • I am training to be a clinical psychologist and she is utterly terrible! In all these programmes she goes deeper into things that are for public interest rather than for the client. Idon't know how she got permission to do this...

  • Yeah gotta agree with you on that. Shame really, she was cracking on Not the Nine O'Clock News, and anyone who marries Billy Connolly is alright in my book.

  • all the people she has on the show have had autoboographys out so their not really talking about anything they havent done before. and of course she's looking for public interest its a TV show, it's probibly more the producers than her!

  • He got taught tennis by a creature?

    Wacko

  • He got taught (Alfred) Tennyson, a poet. A creature in this context is an old dear (woman).

  • I was just being daft

  • Okay, sorry mate. I normally see daftness but that just went under my radar. Stephen Fry is very interesting though, isn't he?

  • Yeah its a good series I'm more sympathetic to him now. He come s across as a tosser but this goes someway to explain why.

  • Tosser? Hardly.

  • i want to give stephen fry a hug. love 'im

  • She seems really stuck up?? Flip me like, she's only married to Billy connolly..... Snuf boxes they certainly are not + I'd give her one no sweat, shrink rap me any day Pammy:)

  • Cant belive she worked in not the nine oclock news.

  • i don't like ths woman, she seems too stuck up.... bitch lol!

  • well done! thanks for uploading!

  • It saddens me he's tried to kill himself at all yet alone more than once. I love him, he's beautiful :)

  • So true. He's so sweet.

  • She's so irritating!

I was wondering what kind of person is she, because I'm from younger generation and don't remember her as an actress. I'm sooo disappointed!:(

I also have some serious doubts whether such programme as hers should exist altogether. It is some form of selling her interviewee's personal matters. It is unethical in my opinion and she should know it having her degree and all:/

  • I've never seen her in anything before either. I knew her name through watching Billy Connoly's stand up though (they're married) This is the first time I've seen her too

  • She is only realy know for being in the British comedy series 'Not The Nine O'Clock News' which is nearly 30 years old now.

  • How on earth can Billy Connelly live with that woman, and where did she get that stupid accent from, she`s Australian and cant go 2 minutes without mentioning her Degree. argg! Sorry thats a personal attack but Stephen Fry is a genius and so is billy, and if she would shut up we could hear more of them!.

  • Conolly is married to Pamela Stephenson, you utter muppet.

  • Excuse me Mr obiwan521 But if you read my post again and this time Pay attention! Then tell me what makes you think that i didnt know that? and whats with the muppet comment? Dyslexia is horrible i know.

  • That is Billy's wife you utter muppet (I don't usually speak to people like that on the tinternet, I usually leave it for the idiots, you asked for it though)

  • Mr saggiehead, is that comment meant for me? If so, and once again, What the hell made you think that i didnt know that? I asked a rhetorical question, "how can he live with that woman?" Or are you as dumb as obiwan521? If It wasnt meant for me then forget eveything i just said. and By the way, muppets are way more intelligent than people that dont THINK before commenting.

  • Mr/Mrs Mattebear

I was replying to the fool who called you a muppet in the first place. Which to me seems obvious as you didn't say anything about it not being his wife. But if you are as dumb as obiwan then attack people that try to back you up. Idiot

  • Damm this is getting out of hand, Have you changed your name? and you replied to my comment as far as i could see!, i also said If It wasnt meant for me then forget eveything i just said. OK? i was attacked for making a simple comment and was probably defensive so hands in the air, very sorry but what the hell,It was 2 months ago. Can we all agree that pamela is just not qualified to speak to mr fry?

  • Let's be accurate old chap, she was born in New Zealand. Noone is stopping you from hearing more of "them". Good on her I say for developing her interpersonal skills to the extent she has.

  • She is so irritating.

It's a shame because she used to be normal before she moved to America and got involved in Californian pseudo-science.

  • DOES ANYONE HAVE TH SHARON OSBOURNE ONE???

    many thanks wb x

  • Haha. The idea that one is supposed to shake one's body at it... I've always had that thought.

  • ^^Yes, that actually struck me to...Isnt the main job of a therapist to listen?

  • I find it ironic to the enth degree that as she is talking about "interrupting in class" etc. that she is in fact interrupting Stephen. Anyone else notice this?

  • very much so. i am using quite a lot of self control not to attack her side of the screen because of it.

  • You're a true gentleman.

  • when i had seen Stephen Fry in the past I see a beautiful man that has done a lot for continuining this beauty in our world now having seen this I still agree

  • On the inside, I certainly think so.

  • I love Stephen Fry, but not enough to tolerate that interviewer. Yikes.

  • Bloody idiotic broad...

  • Totally forgot about this!! Thank you!!!

  • god, is she annoying...
