Rua vs Jones reminded me a lot of the Rua Rampage fight in pride. In the sense the first strike pretty much screwed both guys up to the fact they weren't themselves the rest of the time.
He should've used more kicks in the Jones fight. All he kept throwing were high kicks and Jones kept catching them. Machida had success with leg kicks.
But like they say, "You follow your game plan until you get punched in the face....then it's out the window."
well you must know that when somebody has reach like jon jones which is 215 cm,its not so safe to throw much low kicks,he can easily counter it and you risk to break your foot.

I was thinking about Saki, Aerts one of the real Kickboxers/K1 fighters. Overeem is an animal but doesn't have the kicks Badr or Saki has. I believe Saki is training ground game as well for more then 2 years. K1 is dead so i think its the only alternative for him.

It looked like his weight wasn't forward enough on his kick. I used to kick the same way, but once i put my weight forward and "sank down" on my back leg, my kicks got so much stronger. It's like putting all of you body weight plus the force of the kick itself into your opponents leg. Great stuff...

Shogun should just have relied on his body and leg kicks against Jones. i know, people are going to say he's just giving up a takedown, but hey, he's gonna get taken down no matter what, at least try to do some damage.
@europhantom22 cain actually did punch twice as hard dawg, just look at the sports science with him in it. Even tho he should have more impact since he weighs 20-30 pounds more than Rua. But yeah that fckin muay thai leg kick was crazy impressive. Shogun by Ko in 2nd round is my prediction.
I do agree that Bones Jones' reach may become a huge issue for Shogun, but I think the Jackson camp is fully expecting Shogun to come out with kicks to try and counter Jones' reach. With that said, it might not be that bad an idea for Shogun to try and use his hands in the fight. People forget that Shogun is able to close the distance FAST. KO'ing Liddell with a lunging left hook and blasting a very quick Machida.

If shogun kicked a 40 lb heavy bag, the sensors would've have registered less because the bag would just swing in the direction of the kick in stead of staying in place.

@MUEEN007 Yeah sport science is definitely bullshit. There's no way I can believe that GSP (the guy that's never knocked anybody out in his MMA career, only TKO'd) punches harder than Cain (a heavyweight) and kicks harder than Shogun (a light heavyweight). Shogun is actually a great muay thai fighter the thing is that you can't really bring pure muay thai into MMA these days. He trains his muay thai to fit MMA because there are different dangers you have to look out for.

@c0ldsurg3 his muay thai is good, he is an excellent mma fighter, like you said not everything in muay thai works in the mma rule set, but in this case someone said he's better than most muay thai fighters which is totally wrong because their are tonnes of muay thai fighters that would ruin him in stand-up rules, obviously he'd have the advantage in mma because of the ground game, bt standup in mma is generally poor havin said that most mma fighters have very good ground game.

@europhantom22 cain actually did punch twice as hard dawg, just look at the sports science with him in it. Even tho he should have more impact since he weighs 20-30 pounds more than Rua. But yeah that fckin muay thai leg kick was crazy impressive. Shogun by Ko in 2nd round is my prediction.

I do agree that Bones Jones' reach may become a huge issue for Shogun, but I think the Jackson camp is fully expecting Shogun to come out with kicks to try and counter Jones' reach. With that said, it might not be that bad an idea for Shogun to try and use his hands in the fight. People forget that Shogun is able to close the distance FAST. KO'ing Liddell with a lunging left hook and blasting a very quick Machida.

People are talkign about his kick, but his punch was compact and short, not like Rampage's one, when he put everything behind it, an still punches at over 1100 lbs. That's a pretty impressive punch.

If shogun kicked a 40 lb heavy bag, the sensors would've have registered less because the bag would just swing in the direction of the kick in stead of staying in place.

@Jeccidah shogun didnt utilize his kicks because it would leave him exposed for a take down. shogun did one low kick in round 2 and jones immidiatly took him down. shogun was looking for an over right hand KO or submission. shogun that fight was not in shape.
