THANK YOU! I've been trying to tell people this for ages. If you buy different plug-ins, it should primarily be for the specific flavor, sound, or features those plug-ins offer, not because it's impossible to make a song sound good without them. People need to focus on the fundamentals first so that they can serve as a solid foundation when they do go out and buy new stuff be it plug-ins or hardware. Technique is everything.
hey bud unrelated to this video could you do or have you done a vid on multi band compression and general mastering techniques im using logix 9 express using stock plug ins
One stock plug-in that I personally don't use is the Avid D-Verb. It sometimes changes the melodic pitch of the reverb... it goes up and down in waves. which sucks, in my opinion.
Excellent video! Beyond the stock plug-ins, there are also a lot of free plug-ins available online, some of which have become staples of my own mixes. I have yet to buy an actual plug-in, although I have made donations to freeware plug-in developers whose tools I find very useful.
Great vids!Best on youtube!Would love some more vids on guitars like a whats the best type of room to record in,eq,mic tips etc.cant seem to get a good sound
@bobbo924B he is using the command click to bypass the plug in but then adding the option key also to make that function happen on all tracks. Generally everything in pro tools you can press option to have it happen in all tracks.
Preach it brotha. I love the stock plugs. I'm especially fond of the AIR stuff that comes with PT. In your case it also helps that the premixed tracks sound great to begin with, but that's another rant for another day.
Thanks for this! I always mix with mostly stock plugins because I am unable to afford a lot of the things in the market at the moment and while there are certain things I wish I could afford and add to my collection that I use, I find that there is an equal opportunity awaiting me if I tweak around with the things I already own enough. - 2020k Blog
Thanks again for a great tutorial reply to that question! I remember asking u about this in the past and obviously I wasn't the only one that wanted to see this. So, again. Thanks for your ongoing work.
My thoughts exactly, so my question is why but outboard gear? I can achieve what I percieve to be professional mixes with the plugs in my DAW (Studio One V2...Yay!). I think the gear thing is WAY over hyped..my 2.
I think it's wonderful that youtube has provided us with this platform. There are great guys such as yourself to upload how-to-videos and provide us with tips and tricks. But no matter how much you try to dumb down the TECH talk it is still challenging to grasp. I appreciate the information and I can honestly say I learned a lot from you. Thanks for doing what you do! End rant!
great vid or rant.. i think the major issue we are having is (a) some don't have the money nor the time to attend a school that can educate us about the functions in detail. Or (b) no one is available locally to answer specific questions we may have. Honestly you can't expect someone to grasp the concept of the plug-ins effects and parameter functions.
Very Well Ranted !!! Great work!
Graham, you sound like an educated Dane Cook ... Great stuff !!

Prob a 101 question, but how do you remove all the plugins and restore them so quickly? Thanks.

I love rants! Tell it to me straight and blunt! (but without attitude or ego, but you don't have those :)

You can handle mixing with stocks? A real challenge is mixing with my CPU-unfriendly computer. Oh well, it makes for some creativeness.
Great vid! Mixing with non stock pluggins only adds if you can actually mix first as you demonstrated perfectly!
