Whitney, Madonna or Janet come onto a stage, compare it to what happens when Mariah or Celine arrive onstage. With the first 3 there is an immediate long loud standing ovation even before they utter a word. The other two have to give some sort of performance before they are acknowledged. Thats the difference between superstars and legends.
To me Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Madonna and Janet are great and greatly talented. The difference is that Mariah and Celine are not Iconic in the way the Whitney, Madonna and Janet are. These ladies set standards for their genres for others to follow.

With the first 3 there is an immediate long loud standing ovation even before they utter a word. The other two have to give some sort of performance before they are acknowledged. 1 could argue that shes released more albums since 1990 than most other ppl (13 in 20 years) but thats another topic for another day.
IMO Mariah is/was just as great singing wise as everybody else but i can't stand her sometimes now.
