  • In the early 70's in the Mpls-St. Paul region of MN a CBS affiliate, WCCO ch. 4, had a locally produced contest for the best amateur short film. One submission that won was a short parody of the Pillsbury Dough Boy called "Poppin' Death". It was somewhat controversial as it showed the Dough Boy getting baked alive.

Does anyone remember this? Perhaps the original makers of the film?

  • @carlsetzer They did it on MAD TV too, something similar.

  • The original inspiration for my username!

  • Now what would have made that commercial really entertaining is to have had him land in that birds nest on top of her head after flying out of the can, and being picked apart while trying to remove him.

  • Poppin' fresh Dough Boy is so cute!

  • This commercial brings back memories. I was 9 when I first seen this commercial.

  • theyre so mean to him they poke him right in his lil doughy stomach

  • @zker666 Don't worry! They didn't do it to hurt him. The Pillsbury Doughboy understands.

  • lol, I like how it said "Only 11 minutes", in today standards that's like 20 toaster strudels.

  • Just before the boy pokes his stomach, the pilsbury doughboy grows..random!

  • wow they used a black person in 1971..

  • @thettruest your point? it always has to come down to race.

  • @ccmayo uhh no i jus think thats well ahead of its time, didnt expect that.

  • Had to look this up after seeing that Simpsons episode when Burns visualises Homer as "Poppin Fresh"! Don't think the Pillsbury Doughboy was as well known here in England. Still, curiosity satisfied.

  • Looks like the Doughboy has lost weight over the years.

I like how the Michael Jackson look-alike 'shakes hands' with the doughboy early on in the commercial.

  • I love that electric time-lapse sound.

  • You had to add your own fruit filling?

  • yes, this was 37 years ago.

  • I think that the package included fruit filling, but the consumer had to "make" the turnovers. That's how they are today, also--not that I eat them on a regular basis, LOL!

  • The CGI animated Doughboy is better. CGI makes him more cuter.
