In the early 70's in the Mpls-St. Paul region of MN a CBS affiliate, WCCO ch. 4, had a locally produced contest for the best amateur short film. One submission that won was a short parody of the Pillsbury Dough Boy called "Poppin' Death". It was somewhat controversial as it showed the Dough Boy getting baked alive.
Does anyone remember this? Perhaps the original makers of the film?
Now what would have made that commercial really entertaining is to have had him land in that birds nest on top of her head after flying out of the can, and being picked apart while trying to remove him.
Had to look this up after seeing that Simpsons episode when Burns visualises Homer as "Poppin Fresh"! Don't think the Pillsbury Doughboy was as well known here in England. Still, curiosity satisfied.
At my grocery store you can buy the Pillsberry Brand Apple Turnover Pies. OMG MY MOM BOUGHT THEM LAST NIGHT!!!! I was so excited! We made them. mmmmmmmm....those things are so frikin good.
I think that the package included fruit filling, but the consumer had to "make" the turnovers. That's how they are today, also--not that I eat them on a regular basis, LOL!
a friend of mine was dressed up as the Poppin' Fresh Doughboy for his drama monologue when he got called for discipline to the Vice-Principal's office, lol, in high school
Oh, how I loved whacking that tube of dough on the edge of the countertop! There was just something so satisfying about the tube bursting with a big "POP".(It's still good. :)
Ahhh, those turnovers - they look delicious. I think I remember these. I take it they don't make them anymore?
I owe my robust physique to your tubs of triple bleached goo!

Looks like the Doughboy has lost weight over the years.
I like how the Michael Jackson look-alike 'shakes hands' with the doughboy early on in the commercial.
