Btw, about Servers: How many Servers have been hacked lately? Have you look at the details on how some of the biggest happend (on Linux or Linux-based/forked machines)? Also, because someone mentioned Android (/Linux) as popular: Androids security-threats are gaining momentum, as we speak. There is already a considerable and not to underestimate amount of malware out in the wild for it. Recently, the spike up for threats is plus, minus 30-40%. Thus, many sec. companys are releasing mobile Antiv.
1. Linux Distros are just as vulnurable as Windows, if not even more. 2. Windows runs programs on files that you happen to have on your computer. And on a Linux Distro you don't do that eh? Wrong. 3. The Mac (OSX) is open to virus-threats also. For more information, google, use Wiki or a more realiable source, Sophos (security company): nakedsecurity.sophos dot com/2011/10/03/mac-malware-history/ (replace dot com).
@AleXy86 Btw, I, myself, have had maleware on both, Mac and Linux. That is why I started looking up information on this issue. There is no system, that is 100% fail-safe/secure. Not even "closed" systems like gaming-consoles are. That alone should tell you something.
ahahahaha, linux without virus, ahahaha nice joke. yeap!, linux have no virus, only have botnet, rootkits, spiders. pls dnt fukk. linux sucks. linux r made by amateurs, linux is copy/paste. linux is for idiots.
Basically i think this guy (icguilty) is just jealous because he don't know how to use Linux..Shame on him..even i'm weak in English grammar, i am still manage to master in Linux..so it is really clear that he is jealous..hahah..
@icguilty Please stop using YouTube, Google, Wikipedia, Facebook or half of the other web. Because it uses that "gay ass linuks n00b!!!11!" to put it in your language.
Since you keep ignoring all arguments and just keep flaming: goodday, I won't feed the troll any longer.
this man tells lies. first a virus is a sw made to attack some system or sw, dosent matter if linux, macos or windows, also third parties sw. second linux have a lots of virus, their own sw is a virus, bad design, bad programmers. no resource, bad drivers, this scenario is the same in windows, macos scenarios or platform, because have no resources n its worst. a lot issue in server environments, big security issues n bad drivers. also isnt open n dosent works in all hw. also isnt made by hackers
@icguilty You are a goddamn troll, if linux has such a bad architecture why is it the most used on servers in the world? why does Linux running supercomputers go fastest? Have you ever used Linux? All my data is super protected and I don't even need an antivirus.
@EvnThisOneIsTakenNow You are a goddamn troll n idiot. r r secure. ahahahahaha. ur pc go fast. hahahahaha. when u know jst a little bit more of computer world jst talk to me.! never forget that.
@icguilty Because each video free software reviews with comments false and, until ridiculous, your comments are not real, the linux be free (in some distros as gnewsense) everyone can see their mistakes, such as has been said on Linus Torvalds : "In the light of sufficient eyes, all errors are evident."
@icguilty Can't tell if troll or just really stupid.
If I look at the grammar, I'd choose the last one.
Anyways, if Linux is that bad, why is it the dominating system in the supercomputer market, server market AND the smartphone market (Android=Linux)? (all of them)
@Sjoerdd93 u r soo idiot to xplain u. linux isnt free jst 4 NON commercial users. read the gpl, gnu. u must pay annual contrat license for some distor based on linuc core. n is a lie every one linux. i never going to use that sht.
@icguilty that is absolute rubbish. i think you are getting confused, linux is free but is allowed to be edited and rebranded and sold but the origtinal is still free. for example red hat linux (google it) is a commercial server opperating system that is sold, whilst ubuntu and debian on which it is based, are completely free even if you are a massive organisation that wants thousands of copyies.
@icguilty you are just spammer on youtube by talking lies and calling others idiots!
Linu is free if you want to. Most linux distros are free (Debian) while there is non free too (Xandros). With Enterprise Linux same story, paid (Red Hat), free (CentOS).
MAKE SURE YOU AREN'T IDIOT BEFORE CALLING OTHERS IDIOTS!
lol linux can get a virus..i know that..but guess what? it only affects the program the virus is infected..not your system..so you just get clam and scan it and then remove the program and reinstall it
The reason why nobody wants to write a virus for linux is because of social engineering exploits.
It's easy to attack windows and mac users because they don't change their theme, now with linux, they have no way in hell of knowing what theme you have.
Most Linux users know how to use a command line, (unlike most windows users, but some mac users hit Command + V in their terminal to get a 2d dock) so users with that level of proficiency are harder to trick.
@commodore256 I should think many more windows users have used the prompt or perhaps dosbox than todays mac users have used thier terminal. Apple sells itself as a range of products that offer virtually zero literature. I find your comment a bit silly to be honest.
@temporaldisplacement Walk in the street and ask people if they use windows and ask them what the "CD" Command does and do the same at the apple store, ask them if they have a mac (iphone users don't count because there's no terminal and the "Geniuses" don't count because they're suppose to be skilled, but the salesman may not know) and ask them what the cd command does in the Terminal most of them will say it will eject the Disc.
@commodore256 Change directory ....every dos user knows that ...geez. Its not part of windows ...your thinking of the prompt ...windows in the GUI; dos is the CLI. I assure you every mac user I've met who wasn't an IT professional will tell you CD only means compact disk. If your suggesting that mac's hidious excuse for a directory tree is a selling point, I'll tell you right now ...your barking up the wrong tree. (I made a funny.)
Oh, sorry, I mis-read what you said before, you were saying that mac users that use the terminal less than windows users use the command prompt. (most still don't)
Well, I was saying even the Mac "Power Users" just hear you can get a 2D-Dock just by hitting Command+V in their terminal and not know what it means.
IDK if Mac Terminal users more or less common than windows dosbox users.
@commodore256 I had a C16, so to me your name is also awesome. Deff' linux requires a little terminal time ...its good, people should get familiar with thier bios, kernal and telnet systems.
It is not gnu/ linux. It is simply linux. you fat bearded hack. Stallman can lick my nuts and suck my ass. You only created the development tools , not the kernel , you son of a bitch. This sorry son of a bitch is pissed off that he isn't the "god father" of linux. Go pound sand you motherfucker.
@luckyglasspig You sir are my hero. It's such bullshit saying that the GNU foundation is ALL of Linux. There's all sorts of third-party software not licensed under the GPL OR part of the GNU programme. He can go suck a dick. Fucking pretentious asshole taking all the credit for himself, I hate Stallman for this reason.
@luckyglasspig There is quite a bit of gnu in it. The Coreutils, c library and toolchain are gnu. There's also a lot of MIT/BSD stuff in a distro as well (X11 for example). Without a C library or compiler you really don't have and OS. If there wasn't GNU, Linux may have latched onto the BSD tools, and without Linux, GNU probably would have favored the BSD kernel. It's just that the different projects philosophies and expertise had some really good synergy.
However I don't see Linux becoming a practical OS for those who just want it to work and not put any effort or knowledge into it.
Linux (Any Distro) doesn't work without some sort of effort and tweaking. I had to install the proprietary nvidia driver as the vesa driver sucks pretty bad. Not at all difficult for me but it required dropping to the command line which is something scary for most.
I think free software may actually be more vulnerable. If you can see and study the source code, wouldn't that make it easier for a hacker to work with?
I think the lack of use of Linux is the driving reason why it doesn't get as many viruses. Not the sole reason, but the major one.
@BigBobsh2o "If you can see and study the source code, wouldn't that make it easier for a hacker to work with?" Yes and that's the beautiful part; if you let thousands of people review the source code specifically to look for vulnerabilities, you find that a decent number of those people will also contribute back fixes. It gives them a sense of satisfaction. They're also interested in running a system that is secure, and Linux is their system of choice. They won't sabotage it.

@icguilty I shouldn't feed the troll but anyway:
Linux is free, I've been (and still am) a full-time Linux-user for years, I do know what I'm talking about.
The GPL tells the code should be free (as in freedom, but the raw code also as in free beer) for anyone.
A distro could charge you money for its package, but the code should be free.
Linux is just a kernel, it's not a distro. You can get it absolutely for absolutely no money at all.
Sjoerdd93 4 months ago
@icguilty Most distros are also free for commercial use. That Redhat asks money for their Redhat package doesn't mean that Linux itself isn't free.
Ubuntu for example is both free for commercial and private use. (You can pay for commercial support by the way)
And are you telling me it's a lie that 95% of the 500 fastest supercomputers run Linux?
Are you telling me it's a lie that most smartphones run Android? (Which is running Linux)
Are you telling it's a lie that most servesr run Linux?
Sjoerdd93 4 months ago
(Typo I meant to say:, " Are you telling me a lie that most SERVERS run Linux?")
Those are absolute facts.
Youtube runs Linux, Google runs Linux, Wikipedia runs Linux, Facebook runs Linux, Android runs on Linux.
I won't waste anymore time, or words against yout ignorance if you'll keep denying given facts and keep sputing false statements.
I am willing to have a serious discussion, but you've got to know what you're talking about.
End of my reply.
