You say the Absence ripped of ATG and Carcass because they sound similar. consider this.  Everything's been done before. The C harmonic minor scale, the chord progressions... they've all been used. There are no "new" riffs, only re organizations of the same notes used in other more famous riffs. Saying new bands should learn to innovate and create their own completely unique sound yet still hold true to death metal is a contradiction.

I love this band, riders of the plague is awesome cd all the way, but they sound nothing like At The Gates, well except for vocals, which actually is like a clone of Tomas Lindberg, but musically, it's more like Arch Enemy/Carcass of Michael Amott days & a lot of Scar Symmetry sound heard on the new album. Don't take me wrong, but At The Gates is on a way higher level, with the stuff they recorded.. you just can't compare.. much, Much more complicated, technical, whereas TheAbsence is all melody

Actually a band called Possessed from the Bay Area was playing death metal far before Death was. Even Chuck admitted to taking influence from them. Granted Death made death metal what it is today and were a far more proficient band than Possessed. On a side note the guitarist from Possessed is Larry Ler Lalonde who went on to fame in Primus.
