  • I actually started listening to tori amos after I knew she had covered this. I was like WTF, but then I loved it

  • Slayer loved Tori's cover of Raining Blood, they sent her presents including Slayer T shirts. They are mutual fans of each others work. I love this version, its haunting and beautiful

  • so where does the cover start???

  • And to think that this bitch was talking shit about metal. She goes and does a metal cover????

  • better than the original any day!!! i love Slayer but this means a lot more!!!!!

  • watch?v=KfhyEAXGia8

  • Its cool she likes Raining Blood. Looking at the lyrics though it doesn't make sense to sing it that way. Singing hard lyrics demands a hard style. It would make no sense if slayer covered Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream", would it?

  • @bloodandbones9 She sings it in a warped twisted way like a sultry demoness. I think it fits. And dont compare this to some teenage pop. You CAN hear the difference right? this is dark, gothic, creepy and unnerving. not light and poppy....

  • @PennyDreadful1 it drags and gives no benefit to me. its cool you like it and I think it is cool she did it. Metal is immediate gratification.

  • @PennyDreadful1 Raining blood, from a lacerated sky. It doesn't sound sultry to me. It sounds graphic and should be sung as such. Katy Perry does what she does better. She is an excellent performer. And I don't think Slayer will be covering Tori Amos soon, either. Not to be disagreeable. Check out Slayer's cover of Dissident Aggressor by Judas Priest the made it better. Also, check out Primate's cover of Season's in the Abyss by Slayer. They did the song justice.

  • @bloodandbones9 Sure its graphic! Maybe not sultry then nah forget sultry but twisted, tormented, creepy and unnerving which I think really fits. Maybe you are alittle narrow minded.

  • @PennyDreadful1 I consider myself selective, not narrow-minded. Any song that drags, is a drag. Diamanda Galas would suit better with that description. Its okay if you like it. No one appreciates everything. At least the lyrics were good.

  • I can't figure where is she lol...............

  • this version cuts so deep

  • strange^^

  • OK, I'm not being sarcastic or anything but seriously, could someone tell me what part of Raining blood she's playing there?

  • @tomodrum - must be some part from the unreleased demo or something. I Dont hear it either!

  • This is what the world needs: Pop musicians that know how to play instruments doing creepy as fuck reinterpretations of metal songs.

  • this is haunting :S

  • You want to see a song get raped by a cover? Check this out watch?v=TsS811o21-k

  • ke merda

  • effettivamente....che c'azzecca con l'originale? se non ci fosse scritto, col cazzo che l'indovini, meglio SLAYER!

  • Newsflash, kids: A cover version is a musical *reinterpretation*. It's not necessarily supposed to sound anylthing like the original. I'm bored to tears by cover versions that almost sound like the original. I'm not saying you have to like it, but stop making nonsensical comparsions to Slayer. Slayer's version is an awesome classic, of course, but this one has a very haunting quality, especially if you listen to the lyrics and see her official video.

  • @zendakk Yes. Reinterpretation, not bastardization. Why is a comparison to Slayer "nonsensical" when they recorded the original...? If you ask me, a cover version ought to compare in some way beyond the lyrics. Sure, don't go the other way and outright copy it, but keep the spirit of the song.

I don't care if Slayer DOES approve.

  • @pikachusassassin - I'm a Slayer fan and I have been since they came out. I have to say I like this version a lot. Slayer can sing the alphabet and it sounds evil, but for her to slow this down, sort of makes it creepy. I think that this version is unnerving on a level that Slayer couldn't begin to accomplish with all of their efforts into instruments. Raw voice and its inflection can be more powerful than guitar. Tori Amos did a brilliant job with this.

  • @pikachusassassin I dont see how it didnt retain the doom laden atmosphere of slayer? Care to elaborate?

  • yes, this cover sucks.

  • Meh. This could have been awesome.

  • I'm sorry but her creepy ass music all sounds the same to me: slow, depressing and breathy -_-

    this cover sucks.

  • @ledhalengirl24 Is Cornflake Girl slow and depressing?

  • @Sweetforthesoul Honestly I wouldn't want to know.

  • @ledhalengirl24 Well, if you don't have any knowledge of her music why even speak of it?

  • @Sweetforthesoul jesus don't get fuckin butt hurt cause I dislike your

music..everyone has their own opinions -____-

  • @ledhalengirl24 It's ok if you don't like it. But you can't say something you can't stand for. It's like a politician who has an opinion but can't explain why.

  • Lol wut

  • in my opinion, for what this is, it's not bad. But as a SLAYER cover???? no.

  • yes, this is slayer cover :-))

  • this is ridiculous!!!

  • album version is super dark and pretty cool, live this song totally SUCKS. feels totally different.

  • Amazing!!! I read comments on this page about the COVER (yes, its a cover) of some people and its very funny how they dont like the cover when even the Slayer members liked it so much that they send Tori Slayers tshirt. I think is a creepy version of a wonderful song but very good. Slayer and Tori Amos, i like them both! GO Tori!

  • @Kaneda1972 You pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

  • This cover is epic. She turned the original on its head and made it more creepy, more seething, more scary in a feminine way. That's what a good cover is - radically different from the original. Even Tom Araya himself said it was creepy.

  • raining blood (from slayer) was a freaky amazing song

but this...this is kind a shit

  • What the fuck?

I never thought an artist could fuck up Raining Blood. I never thought the lyrics could be more indistinguishable than Vader's version. But I stand corrected. Unfortunately.

  • What the fuck? what is this? How is this Raining blood? Where am I?

  • @rickey011 You are in Hell, and this is the song that plays in your head.

  • The ELO cover is so much better. Waiting to hear the San Francisco Orchestra cover in a bad way.

When you take away the shouting, the guitars and the drums, the song you really catch the beauty of the poetic quality this song has. Such deep thought in these lyrics and this just brings that out so much more.

(I kept a straight face the whole time I wrote this)

  • Dude, Kerry liked this. lol

  • Not that this is bad, but it doesn't match the lyrics. I mean, come on. The song is about, literally, raining blood. Not quite what I think of when I hear this. Again, not to criticize the music, because I realize that people have different tastes.

  • I also like Slipknot... I find it pretty embarrassing that someone can't appreciate multiple interpretations of someone's musical expression. This is a great Slayer cover!

  • hey i can appreciate multiple interpretations but i hate this chicks version. i've listend to just about every Vitamin String Quartet cover mainly because i love hearing other peoples interpritations of music. i simply hate this cover and hate this chicks music style, i know im going to cop flack for saying that but im sure everyone here hates a certain band or artist and for me, it happens to be Tori Amos.

  • No wonder your comment is stupid, you're a Slipcrap fan

  • Fuck off, grow a pair of balls. Don't talk shit on shit you don't shit on.

  • this comming from the dude who's 1st favorit on his channel is 'Jizz In My Pants' go fuck yourself

  • LOL!!!!! you're smart.

  • UNA ASTROCAGADA

  • I think it's rather interesting.

  • Its kinda like the swans... thats a good thing.... but not where slayer is concerned.... its just that its not in anyway true to the original... maybe lyrics... but its harder to hear them than it is to hear them on the original record!!

  • Vaders cover of raining blood is the best by far

  • I'm gonna cover Tori Amos' cover of Raining Blood. And since she changed the music and kept the lyrics, I'll keep her music but change the lyrics! :D

  • then it wouldnt be the same....oooooohhhhh i get it

  • Raining Blood was covered by Tori Amos on her 2001 album Strange Little Girls.

  • i am totally lost where she is in the song!

  • The lyrics are pretty much the same but the music is utterly different.

  • slayer ain't satanic and this woman ain't covering slayer neither...

  • This isn't a cover? Well, what do you call it when somebody takes your song title and lyrics and performs a different version of it?

  • Lol exactly where do you hear these "lyrics"???

  • I clearly hear "Trapped in Purgatory, a Lifeless object alive" The first two lines to Slayer's Raining Blood.

  • I know the lyrics, but i cant hear them

  • i hear them too lol she's just singing it different

  • Remake

  • what the fuck are y'all talkin' 'bout? Satan... I mean Santa done told me me he was gonna, I mean he already told me he bought me that Deicide CD! The one that has Jesus disemboweled on the cover... I Love Deicide! Where's Santa?

  • Slayer ain't even close to beeing satanic. They are extreme. They like to provoke people. Real satanistic metal dont want no publicity. they don't want to be well known. Black-metal is satanic.

  • Slayer are nto satanic. Do you even know what it is being satanic? Satanists dont believe in god nor satan. They see themselves as theyr own goods. Try to know about what you are talking before you fight about it. And by the way see a documentary name "headbanger's journey" in that doc Slayer affirm that they are not satanic, they are atheists. Sorry for my bad english. Oh and this cover sucks

  • *not * own gods

  • wtf... this cant be Raining Blood

  • who cares if they are or aren't satanic.....its not like god is real anyway...or do you all still believe in Santa too?

  • you mean Santas not real? thanks alot dick weed lolz jk

  • lol this was funny

    made me thing REALLY hard

  • It is NOT an epic fail. If you don't like Tori Amos, don't fucking listen to her music.

She actually covered the lyrics of the original song (I like that too - I was a big Slayer fan since their South Of Heaven era, until Diabolus in Musica), because she liked it that the lyrics have a lots of different meanings, just like other Amos songs.

    It's a great, atmospheric cover 5stars

  • nope, its an epic fail

  • As a Slayer fan, of course you can have a different opinion, but it would be unwise if you say that she failed to make at least an OK song from it. Let's just leave it to the Amos fans to make an opinion...

  • excellent idea!

  • i agree i mean its pretty fucking hard to mess up a good song as it is lets see i can name 2 bands that have fucked up Slayer songs Children of the Bodom and this chick

  • you're a moron.

The lyrics ARE the same, and she's playing THE EXACT SAME NOTES in the slayer version.

LEARN something about music before you talk.

  • no i know alot about music. I listen to everything, and music is pretty much my life. ive been playing guitar for 5 years too. This is not raining blood. Epic fail. Slayer rulez

  • Tori's just gone up 1,000,000,000,000 points in my book.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm a huge Slayer fan and this does Slayer justice; it's dark, haunting (the chapel) and rather macarbe.

  • its a satanic song. who ELSE but a woman would be BETTER to cover it?

    listen to eve.

  • Slayer isnt Satanic neither is Raining Blood

  • You're a retard.

Slayer is satanic, though the members may not be. Tom is Catholic, Kerry is atheist, but the pentagram in the logo is more than enough to see what Slayer is.

  • what r u sum up your butt preachy christian motherfucker who thinks anything that has a pentagram is satanic no ITS AN IMAGE YOU FUCKER!NONE OF THE MEMBERS R SATANIC!YOU DUMBASS YOU LITTLE FUCKING RETARD NONE OF THEM ARE AGAINST GOD but you wouldnt realize that becuz your probaly sum little religious ass who cant tell the difference between anything so if it disagrees with god IT MUST BE SATANIC god you people are slowing down the process of evolution your making humanity more stupid than it is

  • You're still retarded. So reading the lyrics to Hell Awaits, The Anti-fucking-Christ, Altar of Sacrifice, and all that, and can you still argue that Slayer is not Satanic?

    Dumbass.

  • dude you have no concept of what Slayer is go fuck yourself

  • How about you open your fucking ears and eyes and your fucking brain, dickshit. Or I'll open your fucking head on the curb.

Give me one solid piece of proof that Slayer ISN'T satanic, or don't even fucking argue shit you have no clue about. And I have no idea why you're defending it so much, since it's fucking music anyway. They could be singing Jesus' praise, it doesn't mean shit to me, their riffs still kill.

  • go fuck yourself dude theyre still not satanic why dont you go listen to sumthing like GorGoroth THATS satanic ok Slayer is not theyre close but since they dont always sing about satan they arnt now i will admit they do sing about hell and satan BUT WHAT GOOD METAL BAND DOESNT!

  • "Learn the sacred words of praise, hail Satan"

"Satan holds my future Watch it unfold"

"Crucify the so called Lord He soon shall fall to me

Your souls are damned your God has fell

    To slave for me eternally

    Hell awaits..."

    Guess who wrote THOSE lyrics...

  • so?they sing sum satanic songs it doezsnt mean the band is Satanic ok i see it this way if the members r satanic then yes the band is satanic but none of the members of slayer r satanic am i correct?

  • They play Satanic themed music. How does that not make the BAND satanic? No, the members are not, but the band is. Or, at least most of their music is.

  • morgannin - shut the hell up. you're not gonna bust anybody's skull on anything. stop trying to be an internet tough guy.

jaguilar7643 - you're a retard. slayer has always been considered either satanic or 99.99999% of the way satanic. they were the darkest, most demonic, most fucked up (and awesome) thing around in the 80s.

damn man, stop the bitching. also, this cover sucks ass. i couldn't tell where she was in the song at any point in the video.

  • At least you see reason.

  • Its all about Shock Value dudes. I say and do things often just to get a reaction. Besides it was like 20 years ago when this was written.

  • How about the fact that Araya is a practicing Christian?

  • What is Slayer? Explain further.

  • Probably one of the most original Slayercovers around...Superb!

  • FUCKIN' SLAYER! this chick is pretty badass to be covering them

  • that's the idea, is a cover from her perspective...

  • i actually love this slow, weird version, you just have to understand that something can be approached from different side and still be strong

  • Expected something awful when i read about the Cover, but it actually is a good Cover i think. But without the Heading Saying: Raining Blood I Wouldn´t have guessed in a Million Years that it is a Cove from Slayer. :D

  • my only question is why I love slayer and if she likes them to she shouldn't of done this really it isnt horrible for what it is but come on whats next is she going to cover hammered smashed face actually that would be fucking funny as hell

  • This IS Raining Blood, and it is the most astonishing and beautiful version you will ever hear. Tori at Union Chapel was the greatest day of my life and it is so special that I can see this clip. Tori and Slayer are fans of each others work, it is well documented.

  • This is SO WEIRD

  • it is a cover, the whole album "Strange Little Girls" are covers.

  • Well that was interesting

  • Yes, yes, what would be the point of a cover if it just sounded exactly like the original? No point at all. I love that Tori is not afraid to take on any song and make it her own. She rocks :)

  • This is definitely Raining Blood by Slayer:

    Trapped in purgatory

    A lifeless object, alive

    Awaiting reprisal

    Death will be their acquisition

    The sky is turning red

    Return to power draws near

    Fall into me,

  • It's a good song, and nice to listen to, but it's not Raining Blood. Change a few lyrics and you've pretty much got yourself two completely unrelated songs. Again, it's a good song, it's just nothing at all like Raining Blood.

  • But what would be the point if it were?

  • It's not supposed to sound like the original, idiots. Would you expect Slayer to take a Tori Amos song and remake it with Kerry King on the fuckin piano? I doubt it.

  • I love you

  • why is this a cover? it doesn't sound anything like slayer s?

  • It's not really the music that i;m into. but i respect the fact that she took a heavy song and did her own thing.

  • sounds nothing like the original, but this is still pretty sweet. i like hearing cross genre cover songs :D

  • Guess Tori is stupid then. Why else would you do a Slayer song if your not a headbanger? moron.

  • Is she banging or anything like that? Point here is: bangers think they have the secret key of music understanding. Exceptions make this rule clear.

  • no we have the secret of life understanding.

  • does this even sound anything like the original?

  • How can you say it's crap, 'just cause it is'.

It's different, that doesn't make it automatically better or worse than the original. Slayer gave permission for the song to be covered, and they loved it.

Try and appreciate different music!! Just cause it's not what you would normally listen to doesn't make it crap!

In my opinion, both are brilliant =D

    <1+2

  • ur right dude

dont try to convince those people that only listen to metal they dont know what music is really about....

  • They actually said it wasn't their kind of tea, but their tour manager liked it.

  • its haunting and nightmarish....nothing like lounge singing shit. if you ask me it just gives slayers original a bit more dimension. both im in love with.

  • Dudes, Slayer loved this cover so can't say that she butchered it. The cover has Slayer's seal of approval.

  • I love this song. Although I find it haunting that this video was taken just 12 days before 9/11. If you like this song, look for her song "I can't see New York".

    Ciao for now

    Later Lu :+{

  • just : WHY???

  • you people are fucking retarded!!!! It's a cover put into HER style of music. It's not like she is trying to outdo slayer.

  • slayers is better

  • with all due respect to Slayer, Tori's version sounds alot more darker. I just wish this was longer

  • This is Raining Blood?

  • what...

  • She tried but.... Slayer owns her! a lot!

  • slayers raining blood s better

  • I like it. I like the whole album.

She made it as if she wrote each song herself and made it her own in a COMPLETELY different way from the original.

It takes guts, and I think she succeeded in what she was trying to do.

It is HER singing it, not the original.

  • The original song doesn't have a main theme melody, covering it is just useless.

  • It wouldve been alot cooler if she used any of the themes from the original music.
