  • Gary Moore pretended to be a blues man? i remember BB king said he was one hell of a blues artist, and remember Gary saying he didnt enjoy playing Thin Lizzy because they werent blues and by the time he left to much of the guitar from that band stuck with him, He was a blues man, a real passionate one at that. but great video anyway's love blues =D

  • true mr. moore is blues to the bone

  • are those retrotron pickups

  • from the size of it (or what I can tell) it looks more like those (a) tv jones pickup

  • Cool accent.... Where is he From?

  • He is from France :)

  • Why does he call it his 'Johnny Cash' finger...?

  • I assume because of the famous Johnny Cash photo where he's flipping off the camera.

  • My opinion is because to my knowledge Johnny Cash mostly used his thumb and index finger when he played.... I don't I'm putting to much though into it now haha.

  • You're french? :o

  • Yup!

  • @ThreeChordGuitar holy crap, je me sens tres content mantenant que vous l'avez dit :D je suis pas français mas c'est trop bien!

  • @ThreeChordGuitar Nice guide :D But i dont like france languange ;).(dont understand a thing on school of french) You speak very good english, especially for a frenchmen. The music is our languange ;D

  • @puttie30 what a stupid and unnecessary comment.

  • give johnny cash his finger back lol great vid m8

  • Nice Tone daddy O

  • great!!!!!!!

  • MOJO! Thanks a lot man - love riff 1... i edited it a little, so that after you do the bend, go a string up, fret 3. D

  • nice licks, thanks! and pyannaguy, i'm from holland and i must say mojo really don't sound like a dutchman to me!

  • u kinda sound like that old dude on pet cemetary..

  • Are you from Holland, Mojo? I ask because your accent sounds like Mr. Boogie Woogie, the rockin' piano man from Holland.

You're good. Can we hear some of your blues playing, full on, in a band setting, or whatever? Thanks!

  • Very nice custom paint job on the modified Tele :-) Thanks for the clear blues licks that even a beginner as myself can use

  • Awesome lesson!!

    Thanks a bunch!

    Dm

  • hey Mojo you are the best!

I love your videos! This is one of my favourites because it has Gary Moore in it :)

  • Very very good man!! Thanks

  • Hey Mojo, I tried to log on to your forum but the links seem to go round in circles. Maybe you can help here instead. What type of pedal do I need to give my guitar that blues sound. The box of rock has boost and distortion, are both needed or would a plain old distortion pedal give me the noise I'm looking for? Thanks for teaching me some Blues, even if the noise isn't quite right yet!

  • Had to take the forum down due to spammers. Pedal-wise, plenty of choices for the blues, including classics like tube screamers and Marshall pedals. It all depends on what type of blues tone your looking for.

  • Ah, nightmare. Damn keyboard warriors! Hmm, I'm not sure what the difference in tones is. From the description of the box of rock would the sound you used in this clip be Marshall-ish?

  • Get a tube screamer. Even a reissue. You'll be fine :)

  • hey, where do you get these licks? Do you have a book or something else?

  • Pretty much from years of playing and listening to blues music :)

  • i dig your videos very helpful keep up the good work

  • 5 stars.

  • hey thanks for the lesson, you dont have to do this, appreciate it,and just ignore ignorance

  • Thanks for the kind, supporting words :)

  • u have no idea how much i hate rednecks

  • You have no idea how much I don't care about your personal issues. Oh, and before you castigate people, how about you learn how to spell?

  • what scale is the first riff in? blues minor in E?

  • Yes it is !

  • Where are you from?

  • France.

  • I would have guessed from the 3 leaf clover dangling there, cowboy hat, and accent, that you were from somewhere like TN or LA and ancestors came as immigrants in the early 19th century. But France it is.

  • France it is indeed. I have been here going on 16 years :) And it's not a 3-leaf clover... it's a triskell, sicne I am originally a Celt.

  • Almost a common error. sorry for the mix-up.

  • No problem at all!

  • is that one of them gretsch humbuckers on the neck pickup?

  • Close, it's a TV Jones...

  • i got boost

  • vous parlez francais?

  • Oui, tous les jours :)

  • Very good, but I think you were a bit too fast for beginners. I couldn't follow everything.

  • Thankyou fine sir, I found this ever so useful!

    James

  • Very very well taught - thank you :-)

  • Your from Minisotta right?

  • Wrong :)

  • Where are you from?

  • France.

  • Wow! You sound American!

  • man i fucking love your telecaster!!! nice video btw

  • Thanks on both accounts!

  • This guy is good but i wouldnt want him as my teacher. He'd always be saying "johnny cash finger" instead of middle. Whatta dork

  • Every guitar book calls it the Johnny cash finger. Get used to it willy.

  • you have good playing and a good accent but a grandma guitar

  • yo mon.

any ideas on what you improvise this over?

    like, minor? major?...

    dominanat?

  • love the paisley guitar

  • I love the facial expressions!!!

  • only cash finger?

  • 3:20

"It gives you alot of meat on which to hold"

    Sorry, I chucked at that.

  • thats a bad guitar boy!

  • you said the "Johnny Cash" finger :-) isn't that "cussing" ?? great video !! thanks !!

  • What about the last ending lick you had goin?

  • hey!! i have a jimmy hendrix finger!!

  • haha the johnny cash finger

  • i have question how many guitar do you have!

  • you have so many guitars so happy~

  • Oh man! I'm glad I've found your channel!!

thank you!!! thank you!!! thank you!!!

    love your lessons!!! Keep bluesin'!!!

  • Your really great man, and you give really good instructions in your videos.keep it bro!! I enjoy watching ya! :)

  • Awesome video, very clear instructions, great licks to play about with. So useful, thanks very much for posting mate :D

  • Nice riffs/licks!

Thanks for the help, using these to improvise, btw :P

  • whoa werre the hell did you get paislys guitar?? how much did it cost?

  • thanks so much! I can't get quite the same bends as you (i play a fairly rigid acoustic Blueridge), but i can cheat by working up the fretboard...i really love these licks

  • Mojo,

Ive been playing for 25 yrs. but your lessons always refresh my playing and guitar knowlege. Your efforts will be rewarded some day for helping us all.

    Your my guitar hero.

  • awesome, these will be some cool little riffs to use.

  • Great!

  • Hey, great vid! I learned alot. There is one lick you do at about 6 minutes. Could you explain that one? (or if you already have, just send me the vid) Thanks.

  • im a beginner but i thought that when you solo you are supposed to start and end on the same note... could someone clear me on this please

  • No such rule. In fact, this is art - unless I am playing the notes ;) - so it's whatever strikes your fancy.

  • haha... i guess i will just keep tryin notes until i find something cool, thanks man

  • This guy reminds me of James Carville, lol

  • what a bluff, very common licks

  • thanks mojo

  • Thank you . Your lessons are very clear.

  • thanks ,..nice lessons

  • I try to learn some Bluesguitar for my own fun. Thanks for good tips!

  • Great stuff. Real licks at last with a nice feel about them. Too many tutorials online with no depth. This is worth sharing.

And there is nothing in blues now that hasn't been played before! This is definitely the start of I'm so Glad but is also a Gary Moore style riff. EC and GM are both good enough to play it themselves but practical enough to take good stuff from each other. Just like we're doing! Steal away guys.

Now post the lovely little run in E you play right at the end ;-)

  • heapsa help thnkz man!!!!!!!

  • Hey, Really enjoyed watching the videos. Im a big Clapton fan, All of fazes of his career. Just want to make mention, when you get to the part in the video of the second blues riff, you state it sounds like Gary Moore, if I may add my opinion, It sounds alot like Clapton in Creams Opening riff to Im so Glad. Keep up the great work, Videos are great! How about "Let It Rain" by Clapton. Thanks Z.

  • My thoughts exactly, the "Gary moore riff" is actually the opening riff from "I'm so glad" :-)

  • Really enjoyed the lick lessons, very clear and nicely presented. I also love your accent and the "Johnny Cash" finger! Looking to catch up with your vid's again : )

  • What are the other languages you speak. I personally speak danish of course and then english and a bit german.

  • 1: French

    2: German

    3: English

    :)

  • Third??? Where are you from? Is the last french?

  • I am from France.

  • Where about in France? I'm half french meself ^^

  • Brittany :)

  • La bretagne? Je suis un quart breton! Ainsi que 1 quart parisien, et moitié anglais ^^. Et je parle ein bisschen deutsch.

Your cool :), and you remind me of moby xD

  • I really think you could go far. I really like your attitude, and the hat is so cool. It seems to me that your emotions are strongly linked to your music and that's pretty much what i expect from a good musician. Pardon me if my english is incorrect - i'm from Denmark. I have posted a vid that i'd like someone to comment. It's just a song and it's not performed that well, but if you have the time i'd appreciate it. That blues lick nr. 1 really helps me right now. Keep the blues.......

  • Thanks for the kind words. And your English is just fine! It's my third language as well, so no sweat :)

I will go check your video. Thanks for the post!

  • Your accent is fascinating. You sound almost like a vaguely southern-ish American... but every fifth word or so you sound Québécois (as opposed to a French French guy speaking English)

  • Besides the exellent playing I must say that your accent is very nice to listen to. Where are you from if i may ask?

  • Thanks! I am from Brittany, France :)

  • I think you could become one of my biggest idols right next to Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and various blues og blues-inspired musicians.

  • Wow, I don't even know what to say to that. Thank you so much for the very, very, generous words!
