actually i just learned in social studies in school today that iran isnt mostly shia. its over 50% persian religion, they tried to convert in the past but it didnt work. also womens rights were encouraged but failed. im an american age 13. i also learned in iran they dont hear anything positive about western countries in schools. i find that rude because we are NOT all like george bush. and i find the female/male seperation in schools and public wrong. im a girl

if you think that shiasm is the problem in Iran, look at Saudi Arabia and see the women's rights there, the biggest ally of the US. the number of women in the Iranian work force is huge, out numbering men in places. and yes, they are more learned than many other women from other countries. the problem is the kind of democracy/freedom and values promoted by the west, and presented by the media. islam is a 'safe' religion, promoting a socially chaste system.

ps: I find it quite hypocritical of you to condemn the gender separation of Iran but not mention anything about the western girl schools and nun institutions, I'm not in favour of women moving to the back of the bus however it is a FACT that separation of the sexes in places such as schools can improve concentration and decipline in academic environments.

Already about half the active doctors, dentists, physicians, surgeons, and other medical experts, are women in Iran. We have many women in the parliament, and so far we have had two women acting as Vice Presidents, and many leading political parties. Right now there are women running for President as well.

I have many Muslim female friends who will married off in arranged marriages in the next few years. ALL of the women are terrified of their first real interactions with men. None of them have held hands, kissed, gone to the movies with a boy before. It is a very unnatural way for marriage to occur.
