  • notice guy picking his nose in the shadows?

  • WHY CAN'T NEWS BE THIS AWESOME ANYMORE?!

  • Robin Fern Garrison actually went on to WPVI 6 after this.

  • @gibby100 wow....robin garrison used to do weekedays on wpvi with Harry Martin...didn't know her hame was robin fern garrison thanks for posting!!

  • The forefathers of the iPod advertising silhouettes!

  • Can you hear the director's voice leaking through the audio right before the theme starts? I think that's what the voice is.

Old new clips are so cool. I can waste hours on YouTube looking at these. They're really great time capsules and were fleeting since most weren't preserved.

  • WPVI channel 6 in Philadelphia still uses the exact same music and "action news" tagline. Interesting.

  • @benwmayes - Not only that, WPVI offers "Move Closer To Your World" as a free cell phone ringtone - in its full glory! Google "6abc ringtone". The second result you find will take you directly to that ringtone.

  • This is cool. My father has living in Fresno since 1982, and I'm always looking for 70's and 80's TV/ Video/photos from the past for Fresno and the SF bay area.

  • What happened to Robin Fern?

  • Stay classy Fresno...I'm Ron Burgundy?

  • the bad video quality actually makes the theme sound good lol

  • O Action News é a inspiração da vinheta do Canal Livre, programa de entrevistas transmitido pela Band, emissora de TV brasileira.

  • The "Action news" opening reminds me of the movie "Anchorman", about a late '70s San Diego TV news cast, the main character played by Will Ferrell. The fictional KQWE TV had the tri-color blue-yellow-red logo of KESQ Palm Springs (the weather map had named cities of Riverside county and Imperial Valley along with San Diego), on channel 37 (to mock channel 39 KCST, an actual San Diego station) and full of references to L.A. TV stations. Will Ferrell grew up in So. Cal. as a DXing hobbyist.+

  • You mean the right-wing neocons of Central Valley are at it again? National Public Radio in Fresno was a "long wait"? uh huh, conspiracy theory. Fresno county often shows red (Republican majority) on federal and state elections, despite California is blue (Democrat majority) along with the left coast, excluding the central valleys.

KFSN 30 was CBS? I didn't know that, I knew it was ABC (KJEO 47 was CBS), network affiliate switches are a regular occurrence. +

  • The Central Valley has always leaned to the right ,as evident recently by their huge support of Prop 8, (the gay marriage prop) evangelical christians pull alot of weight in those small farming towns the dot the regions.

  • WTVD did that jingle

  • Wow, this is the veronica corningstone prototype. I wonder who her Ron Burgundy is...

  • John Wallace. He been in Fresno television for decades.

  • Haha control room chatter and is it me or does their version of the open move a bit faster than WKBW/WTVD's open make it more "action-y."

  • Les Nessman in a phone booth to the rescue.

  • AT the intro you can hear angelo stalis

  • The music is "Move Closer To Your World", by Al Hamm. The theme music is considered the "national anthem" of WPVI, 6ABC, Philadelphia for their Action News program, which they have used since 1970. Even the type font used for "Action News" in the open is identical to WPVI's.

  • I remember when channel 30 had this news intro. i was 5 years old. Angelo stalis and Nancy Osborne are still on channel 30 after many years.

  • WOW, channel 30 CBS (at the time, that is)...I know it's now ABC 30

  • Hmm, does this pre-date Boroojian over at KSEE24?

  • Tight theme music. I want to see Angelo Stalis on those Action News newscasts of the late 1970's

  • I remenber this opening from the 70's and early 80's. I was 13 when this opening aired. Channel 30 is the only TV station in the Valley that has not changed it's news title. Technology also has come a long way.

  • I WAS ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD When Channel 30 Had that intro

  • This open looks like the WKBW

  • Does that announcer at the end remind anyone else of "young" Howard Stern in Private Parts?

  • Yep!!

  • A director audio line can be heard in the background in this video.

  • Yeah that's the director's track. I've had to do that when applying for new directing jobs. It's the only way the prospective employer knows you're actually directing!

  • Did that actually go over the air like that, or did this come from a tape at the TV station?

That theme music is quite possibly the greatest music ever recorded!

  • Actually KFSN used to be a Low-Power Station... That is a reason that you hear the backround directing audio track

  • Actually director's track doesn't go out over the air. It's configured so that the track is a separate line out connected to the headset. That's why the audio sounds so soft and muffled. It's very common in the world of a newscast director. Type in TXCN (a former employer of mine) and select Demo Reel Newscast to see another example.
