He wasn't the host of Wheel of Fortune in 1976, that would be the legendary Chuck Woolery :D. Ed Kooky Burns only hosted the two pilots in 1974, but didn't get the job as final host (which probably happened because he admitted to being drunk in the pilot in his autobiography).
Nah, pannoni one, you misunderstood, LOLOLOL...I was asking what the space in the center of the wheel from the PILOT episode said...the maroon one. Turns out I Googled it, and it was called "BUY A VOWEL"...knew it was something "A VOWEL", but now I know the whole thing. Turns out if you landed there, you had no choice but to buy a vowel for $250 or if you didn't have the money for one, it was essentially like the "LOSE-A-TURN" space, as you would forfeit your turn.
What's that space occupying the now famous "FREE SPIN" space the Wheel used to have...it looks like something..., "A(?) VOWEL". In any event VOWEL is the only word I can make out on it and I'm curious if anyone knows what it says.
That's funny. Before I saw the comments, I thought that this sounded like something Maynard Ferguson would do. The high notes were Maynard's trademark, but you do hear bits of this song in the Alan Thicke theme.
I though Wheel was a replacement for Jeopardy! which had one year remaining on its contract.
Wheel began broadcasting just after Jeopardy!'s last episode aired.

As you all know, WOF first adopted the "Changing Keys" theme song (composed by Merv Griffin himself) during the week of August 8-12, 1983.

@GSNSmashFan3 Actually, he only hosted the second pilot. The first pilot (titled "Shopper's Bizarre") was hosted by Woolery.

@Hondo20132
Wrong, there were three pilots. Shopper's Bazaar in 1973, and two pilots for Wheel of Fortune hosted by Burns in late 1974.

Song is called "Give It One" performed by Maynard Ferguson.
Originally from the album "M.F. Horn Two".
Also on that album is his renditions of the Theme from "Shaft", "Summer of '42", Spinning Wheel", and "Hey Jude".

"This is what you would hear if you watched the pilot to the greatest game show of all time! "
But "Beat the Geeks" didn't have this as a theme song. You must have been mistaken when you typed that.

Maynard Ferguson performed this theme. Search for him you'll find many more awesome songs like this. Shame he died last year, played from the 1950's

He got drunk out of depression over all the contestants who wanted to solve the puzzle...with just $300.
